We've always brought small snack type foods and juice boxes when the kids were little because they don't always understand the "you have to wait your turn rule". I now keep a snack with me at all times because of medical reasons. I haven't had a problem, but one security guard made Lil'mermaid open up her Nutrigrain bar at the gate. *shrug*

"Officially" you cannot bring food into the park. For a while, I believe you couldn't bring in your water bottles. But "Unofficially" people bring in food a lot. Most of the time, it is a snack for the kids. You can bring food to have a picnic at the park, but the area is really on the outside of Epcot.

If there is a rule about bringing food into the parks, then it isn't enforced very well. Last week I was walking through Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom and saw four people eating homemade sandwiches and drinking Cokes out of the can. I don't think guests should be allowed to bring "meal" food into the parks, but small snacks like cheese crackers and lolly pops I think are okay.

I still dont think you can bring food into the parks if it's in like a big carry bag or something. they might tell you to eat it outside the park or throw it out something along those lines... but you can always sneek in the food if its small enough just put it in your pockets..... not like i have done it before :lookaroun

I never bring food into the park,
But i always bring in my flask, and usualy a SPARKS or two...
They sell them at the gas stations on property...
Its prety easy and it makes the magic kingdom, so much more magical!
But of course i also love those margaritas in mexico, and at the brown derby!

Eve seen people with big coolers, luggage and smaller coolers with, water, soda, food and stuff, something that cannot be carried either on a stroller on leave in the locker areas cannot enter the park (this is has been at least before Wensday, dont know about last two days).

All of this people are been escorted by the turnstiles castmembers to the locker rentals to have their bags tags and saved for them to pick up and use in the front. Most people do little improvised picnics.

Is the same as with those wierd looking strollers, too big to be in the park or to unsafe.

We have never been questioned about bringing in food. Last trip, we brought in fruit, pb&j sandwiches for the kids, water bottles, lots of snacks, maybe even cans of coke to pour over ice. No problems. Our stuff was neetly packed in the packpack on my daughters wheelchair. Not in a cooler of any kind. It works out so well for the kids. We had some snacks for all of us to munch on, but we bought the adult lunches. We will be doing that again.

Items Not Permitted Into the Theme Parks and Downtown Disney
Last Revised 6/14/06

Certain items are not permitted into the Theme Parks and Downtown Disney. This includes, but is not limited to:
Wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, and shoes with built-in wheels
Any trailer like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV, wheelchair, or stroller

Two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances

Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (which mirrors the rental stroller sizes)

Suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" length x 15" width x 18" height (which mirrors the large locker sizes)

Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations

Weapons of any kind

Alcoholic beverages and any illegal substances

Folding chairs, except certain portable seats that can be used as mobility aids

Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)

Pets are not allowed. Service animals are permitted.

At Disney's Animal Kingdom (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws, and lids are not permitted

Regular food and drinks are not included in this list. I had heard a rumor (though I could be wrong) that the Americans with Disabilities Act disalows places like parks and thearters from prohibiiting food and beverages. Something along the lines of profiting from someones disability (forcing them to buy your food, when it is needed).

"Officially" you can. Because of the ADA, small portions of food and drink are allowed in the parks. Water parks allow coolers as well provided there are no glass bottles or knives.

What do you mean? Technically, no food or beverage should be brought in, but it happens... unless of course you have special needs, like a diabetic. That is what I think the ADA intends.

I once was just leaving a security post by the enterance of the park, when a guard asked someone to open a case, and the guy said "Oh yeah, that's just my pocket knife." No fuss was made and I believe he entered into the park with it...Scary....

We prefer to bring our own bottled water into the parks. It's cheaper for all of us and easier to just put it in the bottom of our stroller. I would fully understand, however, if we were not able to bring it anymore because of the situation that has just unfolded. I would just hope that we could refill our bottles frequently with refrigerated water rather than rely on buying pricey bottled water at the parks. Maybe there could be some sort of refillable cup that you buy once while in the park, like is sold at the Disney hotels and Blizzard Beach.

WDW wants people to drink plenty of water (safety first) no matter if they buy it, drink it from a fountain, or bring it in themselves. Not So at Universal, where I've seen many bottles of water dumped out/thrown away by security.

Heh, at least Universal can keep water in stock --- I went to four different carts at DAK once over Memorial Day Weekend and they were all out. We finally found some at Dino Bite Snacks but even they only had the smaller bottles left. I go to USF/IOA the next day and all carts were fully stocked.

During my time working at Pecos (and El Pirata), I'd bus tables at El Pirata. I think I saw more families with food they had brought in that I did tacos.

Ok being a Architecture student and a person with some Learning Disabilities I have dealt with ADA codes and things and there are provisions in the code that let people within medical reason have food or drink at all time.
With that being said I think that yes this was a tragedy that was avoided yesterday, which is a relief, but I also think that it comes a time when you have to say how much freedom do we give up? How much freedom do we lay down and say “MR Terrorist you've won I'm going to crawl into my little whole and hide”. I mean if someone wants to do something they will figure out a way to do it regardless of what you set in their way to stop it. Its like telling a little kid to stay out of the cookie jar, they don't listen they just go behind your back and do it anyways. So I don't think Disney needs to change their rules for this situation at all, It would just cause more headaches getting into the parks and more frustration at having to train CM on new rules and cause fights over "Ok what in this CM mind is acceptable and what in another's is". A good example of this would be Fulton county stadium in Atlanta right after they opened it a few years back, the rules stated no food or drink in the park and a lady with a new born baby brought a bottle with I believe it was juice or milk in it too the game for the baby and the security guard at the gate made her pour it out onto the ground because the rules said "NO FOOD OR DRINK". The case went to court and the lady with the baby won and the guard if I remember right got the boot and the rules for the stadium have changed since then to allow small coolers like the old stadium did.

My whole point is lets not just jump the gun and make more headaches then we need in this crazy world we live in. Lets just stay level headed and keep calm and if something does need to change then change it over time and not in hast. The world would be a better place if people wouldn't panic all the time and would stay calm. Oh and just as a FYI I support President BUSH 150%, Hes the Man.

This thread appears to be getting ready to cross the line into "political" territory, so I'm performing a preemptive strike.
