Bring Back the Tomorrowland Towers

The towers were awesome. And they only look better now.

I think WDW ought to solve the problem of how to keep TL about 'tomorrow' with the solution of DLP: with retro-futurism. In DLP it is based on the French futurism of Jules Verne. But WDW could go one better. It could revamp TL based on the futurism of Walt Disney. And instead of a made-up 1890s futurist look, it could base itself on an authentic mid-century spage age design. The real TL'71 is an awesome look. And it ties the land in with the entire eastern half of Seven Seas Lagoon: the Contemporary and the TTC, who all echo each other's design.

Now that is a really interesting idea!;)

Yeah I would love to have the Main Towers added back in and styled to blend into the existing tomorrowland.

Nice.

...and I expect Martin to do a full feature documentary on these things. Give the audience what they want, what they really really want.

That's exactly what they intended with Tomorrowland '94 and "The Future that Never Was."
That's true! Yes!

Alas, it is a future that never was that I'm glad never came to pass. A bit on the ugly, non-descript side.

I wish they would recognise they are sitting on an authentic future that never was, that of WDW of nearly half a century ago. By the mid 1990s TL had started to look stale and outdated. By the mid 2010's, the original TL looks awesome, the most stylish area of WDW ever build.

As with fashion, art, music and architecture, there is always a pattern whereby the fashionable first looks outdated, then an embarrasement, and then it is fully embraced as classic. The mid-century look has become an admired, classic look. Over at UNI they are bulding the Cabana as retro mid-century. Meanwhile WDW is sitting on the real thing and they don't even know it. Pure gold. 'Tomorrowland 1971' would be the greatest land in all of Orlando! It would also solve once and for all the problem of diferentiating TL from FW.

Add seventies futurist music, think Space Mountain queue...

...and above, picture a Swan boat gently floating by!

This is so amazing! But what amazes me most is that I was there in '88 and I DON'T REMEMBER them!
Not sure why 'cause if I saw those today I'd most definitely remember!

Wow those towers are pretty cool and add alot to the entrance of Tomorrowland. I never got to see them, and didn't even know they existed until this thread. Gotta love learning about WDW bright and early on a saturday!

I always love learning about WDW, any time or day of the week!

But it's interesting to think about how WDW has now reached that point in age where even if something like the towers existed for over 20 years, you would have no idea that they did if you visited within the last 20.

It's also kinda crazy for me to think about how people going through New Fantasyland today, for example, will have no idea 20,000 Leagues was right under their feet, or that the Skyway for nearly 30 years was just overhead.

You know what I find weird? Adults visiting WDW with their three kids, who then post that they enjoy sharing with their kids their own childhood favourites...such as The Lion King.

The Lion King is the new Disney movie, dammit. How can those kids who watched it suddenly be adults with three kids aged 3, 6 and 8?

And I'm only 43! How can I be that old? I can't for the life of me understand that there are now adults who grew up with Treasure Planet and Lilo and Stitch as their fav classic Disney movies from their childhood. There is something fundamentally wrong with the space-time continuum about that.

I was waiting for someone to bring up this topic. Those towers looked awesome, even today, they would have looked great with today's color scheme. I don't like the way Tomorrowland looks anymore. The old version looks much more appealing and welcoming.

I grew up with the movies that you stated, but no matter what the "classics" will always be the best hands down, as I like both those movies they are not anywhere near on the level on the true Disney classics

The towers were very Logan's Run. If splashing/water conservation are issues contributing to their removal, hard to believe there isn't a make-believe answer, i.e. at night, a projection of falling water. Haven't solved day yet.
