What a coincidence! I brought my boyfriend, Scott from Horizons!it's not an EPCOT Center party until the girl in the window and I show up :lookaroun
Wow...I'm surprised WDI let him go.Wonder where he is now...He woulda been a great addition to the 25th Gal.
Uh HUH!:lol:I still need to photoshop you into that picture....:lookaroun:lol::lookaroun
My understanding is that he had an accident while working at the Contemporary and required significant repairs for which there was no budget for. WDI then gave him to Florida Robotics in return for services and then Florida Robotics was the group that auctioned him.
I completely agree that he would have been agreat additional to the gallery. I was very happy and surprised to see the Horizons robot butler there and having SMRT-1 there as well would have made it that much better.
..Ahhh! Welcome to the Epcot Center fanboy/girl club. There are quite a few of us, including the two above posters that miss SMRT-1 as well as a lot of other things from there.:animwink:
..
haha thanks.. I knew I wasn't the only one. I had totally forgotten about him until I saw a youtube video called Epcot Center in less than 5 minutes and they showed a 2 second pitcure of him and it blew my mind.. I used to love this little guy so much.. I had wind up toys and puzzles with him on it. I cant believe I forgot about him. Im going to the parks in 8 days.. Im gunna try and get to the contemporary and find the butler from Horizons.. Didnt know he was there.
Yes - he was used at the Concourse Steakhouse and work was done to allow him to carry a tray. He was renamed X1846 (which was the phone extension for the steakhouse). I have a link to an article on this which is here:

And then he was sold on e-bay about a year or two ago.
The Horizons butler was at the EPCOT 25th anniv gallery but unfortunately it closed towards the end of September 08.
"Hiya! I`m Smart one and I`d like to play a game with you....."
Computa-Coaster was right next to SMRT-1; so many choices![]()
I miss EVERYTHING from the old Communicore! It says alot that even though I saw the old Communicore only twice when I was younger, it is the first image that pops in my mind when thinking of Epcot (Center) instead of the current Innoventions area! And SMRT-1 was definitely one of those elements that made a lasting impression in my head!!!!!!!
Yeppers. The 'walk-through' concept that they have now is just waaay too walk through. I even find myself just strolling along and not really enticed to stop at the exhibits. :dazzle:
1993.... you were just at the end of the best time. Expo Robotics closed on October 3rd that year - the beginning of the end for CCore.Awwww...I remember a *bit* of old Communicore. 1993 wasn't the best time for it though, right?
