Yep,its good to live down here in good ol' Florida! Although my half sister lives in Toronto and I dont know what happened to her,she hasnt called or anything so I guess she's all right.

But,why it the only place on t.v. they show is NEW YORK CITY??? HELLO,TORONTO,DETROIT,ALBANY,SYRACUSE,AND MANY OTHER PLACES ARE ALSO WITHOUT POWER. WHY NYC? WHY NOT TORONTO? THE ONLY TIME THEY TALK ABOUT OTHER CITIES IS WHEN THEY TELL WHICH CITIES HAVE BEEN AFFECTED,BUT AFTER THAT ITS ALL NYC!!!

At least they didnt put the news on SportsCentre!!:sohappy:

Someone said on CNN that it may have been one of floridas major natural wonders. Lightingin zapped the niegra power grid which caused this. (they will leard from FLA and use the special paramiters that is used due to the bad storms we get down here)

Amazing...

Had the power out here in Southern NY (about 20 miles from NYC) from about 4:15 to 7:30. The second the power went out, the county fire radio lit up with huge amounts of "automatic alarms" as the alarms, now run under battery power began to malfunction. There were also confirmed fires at 2 major power plants in the county (Rockland County).

As far as I know, our county is back up and running. Hope everything is well with all people affected.

We just got our power back a few hours ago...but all the cities around us are still out. Poor Cleveland (15 miles or so away)...the east side has no water...

When it happened I was at my friend house in Perry (near the Perry Nuclear Power plant) LOL...lights dimmed then went so bright we though they were going to burst...madness LOL

Perry Plant is still closed...

anyways...i dunno

Is it just me or everyone is making a too big a deal out of this. Like how we have a war in Iraq, Afganisten and Liberia and were fretting over this crap. Thats all the show, the news channels every minute except comericals is devoted to this. Is there something else they could report on. I guess there is nothing newsworthy happening. Wait, they could make up stories like the NYT and the other billions newspapers around the globe.

So wierd, As I was writing this, what pops up, a NYT ad

Ill give you that one. Thankfully Rhode Island has its own power grid but the bad thing is that only one company offers power over here.

anything this big is newsworthy...the worst blackout EVER. Worse than NYC in the 60's...I remember that one.

What gets me is the terrorism angle...not my first thought. Its summer, its hot, everyone is using their acs...power outage. Thought this was caused by a lightning strike.

It´s scary to think of all the people travelling in the subway or trapped in an elevator, etc. I hope there are no tragedies, but just the bad time. :(

After hurricane Isidore, we were among the lucky ones who got power back after one week... it was awful, because it was very hot during the days and nights and there were no fans or a/c to turn on. My laptop´s battery died after that first night, so I was offline for a week. There was only one radio station transmitting as the other one´s antennas fell on the ground with the strong winds. When we were younger, everytime there was a blackout, my dad would sit and play the guitar until we fell asleep... I loved those nights... :)

Thank God you are getting the power back! :sohappy:

Hey guys! I'm writing from the in laws house. Around 9 p.m. I realized there was NO WAY my kids were ever going to get to sleep, so we hopped in the car and headed south. It was odd... because the second we crossed the state border from MI to OH, there was power! and thanks for the company Brian! My trip got even weirder after I hung up with you... :lookaroun but I'll not go into it. *thinks disney thoughts*

This is not only newsworthy, its a benchmark. This is the largest blackout to date.

To those who are slightly annoyed that CNN focused primarily on NYC, it makes sense.

Their nightly schedule includes quite a few shows that are based out of NYC CNN studios and not Atlanta so they're keeping the integrity of the usual shows but, as you saw Wolf Blitzer do, head outside and do passerby interviews.

Now if they spent 80% of the time trying to setup feeds from local affiliates in the smaller cities that are affected, we'd be wondering why a city so huge as NYC isn't be covered, right?
