I have heard unconfirmed reports that thousands of people rode M:S yesterday and felt fine after the ride. Apparently they all continued their day of fun at WDW unaffected after riding the attraction. I am still waiting to see if a major news agency picks up this story.

Thanks Peter, for making the point that I try to make on a regular basis. (Yep, i'm a reporter.)

It is not news when thousands ride and don't get hurt. It is news when one rides and does. It is not news that the bank was not robbed. It is news when it is. etc.

And yes, with today's 24 hour news channels, there is a tendency in my profession to run things in the ground. Repeatedly. And yes, we drag out the old footage of previous incidents, why? because we don't have enough details of what happened today, but we need some video to go with the story and we need to add context about the history of the incident, while we try to find out more details about what happened today.

And yes, Disney is held to a higher standard. The very things that Disney does that make us prefer Disney to Six Flags or Cedar Point of Paramount Parks is what makes us expect them to always be better (safer).

Is it fair, not completely. Is it going to change. Not a chance. Viewers eat up anything having to do with bad news at Disney, where everything is supposed to be perfect all the time.

And yes, regarding things I've read in other threads, many of the locals complain about Disney constantly, that's why you see the stories in the Orlando Slantinel. I have relatives in the area and they are always complainng about the Disney and traffic, the tourists, etc. Of course, they don't complain about the money we bring.

And yes, Orlando would be nothing but cows and oranges if Walt hadn't arraigned such a deal way back then.

(dismounts soapbox)

Wow....I just got an email from M:S telling me it had a huge vertigo attack and is in the hospital and that it never wants to see me again......

I am crushed.

I am happy to report that I am just back from an evening at Epcot where M:S had a 60 minute wait. And yet again thousands of guests rode the attraction with no problem today. If this keeps up the media might have to return to reporting real news.

A friend of mine's sister met a guy once who overheard someone talking to a person in line at Starbuck's who was college roommates with a girl who's parents lived next to a family that went to Epcot and saw somebody talking to a Disney Castmember and if they were lip reading correctly, he told them 1 in 5 people just vanish into thin air while riding Mission:Space.

I have been looking all over the net for confirmation on this story, can you please cite your sources for this data. Thousands (actually millions) of people riding M:S without any problems, I say it's a myth. If I don't see it on TV it ain't true.

If only Pooh would have some kind of tragic accident. I am so tired of waiting for fastpass times on that attraction. It really needs something that totally scares people away.

Wait.... breaking news! A child was scared on the Haunted Mansion! Apparently the parents "....didn't know it could scare my poor child! We're calling for some kind of warning signs that can hopefully prevent this terrible tragedy in the future. And we've contacted our lawyer."
