Breaking News: Building the Future Epcot

A GARDEN??? Are you KIDDING ME? I love Innoventions, I spend hours there! Ridiculous! We have enough bushes and flowers in Epcot already, not to mention Animal Kingdom. Remodel, reimagine, even reduce in size, but do NOT demolish! And if you insist on it, at least do it justice by replacing it with something that at least rivals Innoventions!

And would it be both sides of Innoventions, or just East?

It is CONFIRMED that Disney is EVALUATING the demolition of Innoventions to make way for Future World Gardens. . .

. . . and if you're in the right place, you can see the concept art.
Exactly...

From what I hear, it's an "impressive" place to relax, enjoy the fountain, walk around, etc. I would be able to judge if I actually saw the plan.

If it were my choice, I'd have a Progressland replace Innoventions and the Future World central. There would be an entrance area with "looking back at tomorrow" preshow and giant show props (i.e. Jules Verne), a load into the Carousel Theatre of Progress (with a refurbished, up-to-date, full-tech show), and a post-show breathtaking vehicle ride taking you through space, desert, and, undersea before the trip back to EPCOT - a gigantic post-show similar to Innoventions, but with hands on attractions beyond the technology of the original Image Works and perhaps post-show attractions such as "Timekeeper." This would be the synthesis of all EPCOT visions, a showcase of technology, the future based on the past of mankind, and the best in Disney showmanship.

If it were my choice. :D

The plan calls for "Future World Gardens East" and "Future World Gardens West".

Yeah. Finding a bathroom and air-conditioning is going to be really hard once these gardens are built.

And what about drinks? I need my IceStation Cool.

Innoventions has become nothing more than a giant video arcade for Disney games. The IBM products on display are not that impressive nor the House of Innoventions or Home Theatre. The UL lab thing is kind of neat once, but reminds me a whole lot of the Que for Test Track. Everything else is kind of bland and unimpressive.

The Display for Nanotech was cool especially playing with the magnification scanner but the rest of the exhibit looks like something that could be built in a garage.

I say let past version of the future rest. As far as what should replace it, well, it is an unusual area becasue of the logistics to get to the rides and attractions which is why joe average consumer comes to Disney. Gardens and some memorable shopping Dining facilities would be cool. This is especially true since most people breeze through the area on their way to somewhere else. Would be a great palce for breakfast fare.

I will say that I'd support its demolition if a move was made to simulate the kind of Epcot that Walt had envisioned. If anyone has seen the computer renderings of his original plans on "Walt: The Man Behind The Myth"... that looks awesome! It would probably have to be made a little more toursit-y and park-like, though.

I completely agree that we need a Progress;and exhibit. See... my project gemini would be to call the formal names of the pavilions in future world, "world of...". For example there would be the attraction Spaceship Earth, but would be in the World of Communication Pavilion.

I'd probably keep Innoventions East and West, rename the Communicore, and competely update them, while maybe paying some tribute to the original. I'd build a smaller pavilion called Innoventions, and use that as a corporate advertising thing.

The world of electricty would be built mroe toward World Showcase. The 1st floor would be a history museum to the original progressland and carousel of progress, the 2nd floor would be the actual carousel of progress, the 3rd floor would be the skydome spectacular, with a fully restored and complete model of Progress City/EPCOT, then a presentation over our heads on the domed ceiling.

Back down to an extention of the 1st floor would be a full scale replica of the monsanto house of the future, as a whimislce look back at how the future was seen, then around it would be sets of new home of future living.

I would put the leave a legacy stones in between future world and world showcase, and add a ton of gardens and smaller ponds around them. Many world's fairs had gardens between two or moreincriately themed areas. This way I could restore the gardens once again, a the park's entrance near the monorail station.

LOL they'd probably charge you just to smell the flowers.

yah never drink beverly (i wonder if ANYONE likes it:lol: )

but my perspective on this whole innoventions thing is either it has to become more, FUTURISTIC. it is focusing on all these things we have now. but future world should be about the future not the present. so innoventions should either change or go. but this is only my thoughts

Well from the pics it does seem that they are preparing for Soarin's traffic...my question is, what will they do in the Land pavilion to open up space for the extra traffic??

As for Innoventions...I would like to see a combination of some kind of attraction on either side, mixed in with impressive gardens...I think it would be possible...How about CoP where the pin station is now (center of future world)...between the huge fountain and SSE...CoP would be surrounded by beautiful gardens, fountains and statues all celebrating innovation and discovery...then add two buildings one closer to Imagination and the other closer to Test track (in the same innoventions area)...and put a smaller attraction in each building (maybe have the monorail pass through the buildings)....

The gardens idea is great, just aslong as its not only gardens....

*sigh*

Removing Innoventions would do a lot to open up the park in that area. Its such an inclosed space, if they were to remove those buildings you would would be able to see the expanse of the park. A landscape architects dream.

But seriously in all seriousness, I seriously think we are about to witness the return of the Chair AND the Ladder...:zipit:

I definetly like your idea, it's never gnna happen but I like it. I had a simular idea for a land called progress city which included innoventions(which would also house the house of the future), COP, horizons, and EPCOT: Original vision, which is ecentially a dark ride through walt's original vision of epcot on a people mover. The whole reason why innoventions WILL be torn down is that it's really the only area of the park that needs to be updated on a fairly regular basis in full to keep the technology current and not outdated. That's why all the other future world pavillions focus on the pasts effect on the future or really have nothing to do with the future directly at all, in order to keep the updates to a minimum. I hate the idea of a gardens because there is enough landscaping in epcot as it is, but I suppose anything to put an extra buck in eisner's pocket will be favored as opposed to any other idea. On a different note, maybe instead of discoveryland, future worl should be renamed progress city. Makes perfect sense if you ask me

Seriously? How serious is this serious suggestion because in all seriousness I would seriously like to know, seriously.

jk

Whatever they do in Epcot, I hope they keep the original theme of entertainment and education without the use of cheap thrill rides. Epcot is the one place that "thrilled" me as a child growing up. It was so cool to have all of my senses utilized without the need of a rollercoaster. I grew up at AstroWorld in Houston and would definitely consider myself a rollercoaster junkie and I always loved the fact that Epcot was not that.

I think putting in gardens is just a copout.

Is it "Gardens" or just soft landscaping? I think if it is done right a softer landscape could really help. It would make the place a little less harsh, for one thing.

But I think you could really do some neat stuff, like all sorts of interactive fountains, you could have kinetic sculptures, you could do some neat lighting effects at night, expanding on what is in the core now. In some way sI think it even points to the future since everything seems to be haeding torwards a "green" future.

I think removing those buildings will help Future World since the pavilions will be in view and not some hidden thing you have to actively seek out.
