I'm guessing it is that far out because they intend to further develop the existing 2 parks, DTD and the resorts first. The reason this news is a reason for optimism is that there are serious long term investors on board ready to drop big money on the resort. This is the best news we have had in a long time.

Agreed. I suppose that makes for a less interesting thread title, though.

True, I always have to edit as there are only so many characters you can use.

Sounds like a bigger budget than the original park cost. Still processing how great this could get.

Oh well, more trips to europe.  I'm at over 2 dozen crossings and counting. I get jet lag thinking about the jet lag. :snore:

For the company, I think the big deal here is getting the additional 13 years to devleop the land encompassed in the original arrangement. The land surrounding EuroDisney (company name) was mostly farmland or prarie before the devleopment came along. In addition to the parks and hotels that we are all familiar with, EuroDisney is responsible for developing significant amounts of additional land. That land includes the Val d'Europe development 1 RER stop closer to Paris than the parks. That stop and most of the hotels, apartments, shopping, and office development around it were part of the development that EuroDisney was entitled/required to manage. Development has gone slower than originally hoped, although the deals mentioned in the article were big recent wins.

By getting an additional 13 years to develop the land in the original deal, EuroDisney will have more time to ensure the development can be profitable. Adding more land for a possible 3rd gate is a nice bonus, but I seriously doubt it was the big driver. That is, I doubt that the need of land for a 3rd gate is what prompted the talks with the government.

I heard that they had an expansion plan involving a third theme park and a water park by 2017, which I doubt is going to happen so quickly, but I'm not surprised. I'm still a bit disappointed that they're not working with what they have. To my understanding, the Studios could use an expansionalong the lines of DCA's expansion. I can't speak from experience, but if that's the case, at least do a few hundred million dollars worth of expansion and build the park later.

Theres a few pros and cons here

Pros
  • A lot of money to work with
  • Another theme park ( hopefuly much better than WDSP)
  • Hopefuly enough overflow money to to improve WDSP and move most of the park in a bit father away from DLP
  • Over flow cash to improve the second gate.
  • Add a 3rd gate
Cons
  • shouldnt they worry about things like removing the plant life growing on the castle
  • They should give everything fresh paint
  • Improving WDSP (imo the worst disney park was ever designed)
  • If Paris gets a thrid park, would WDW realy be Walt Disney WORLD anymore?
  • Is there really any theme for a park that hasnt been done already?

So, let me get this straight.

DLP will have a new theme park by 2030?

Great. That's 20 years from now. A lot can happen in 20 years.

Why is this so exciting? :/

Don't know, but based upon the resort they intend to build adjacent to it, I would guess they are thinking about building a theme park along the lines of Animal Kingdom there.

^that would be very unfortunate. AK is great when its unique. unless they plan on building one that looks completely unique. If they build the same one, then they would have 2 half day parks

New deal in place at Disneyland Paris

here is another post on this

New deal in place at Disneyland Paris

Sep 15, 2010

Euro Disney SCA, the company that owns and operates Disneyland Paris, is continuing to move forward in its plans to add a third theme park. An agreement was signed yesterday allowing the resort to expand its operations and the perimeter of the parks. Under the old agreement between The Walt Disney Company and the French government, a third park had to be started by 2017; that has now been extended to 2030, giving the company more time to finalize plans and decide how to best use the land. One thing that this agreement shows is that a third park has been in the plans for awhile, even though it may not come to life very soon.

The amended agreement will also allow Euro Disney to become part of a new vacation project called, "Les Villages Nature de Val d'Europe". This project is dependent on the economy and would be opened in sections over the next 20 years.

The Walt Disney Company owns 40% of Euro Disney SCA.
Les Villages Nature de Val d’Europe, a project based on sustainable development, will be built in partnership with the Pierre & Vacances Group subject to market conditions.

The site would see Euro Disney enter the residential property business, with the possibility of eco-friendly holiday homes being contructed and then sold to private buyers.

A third gate with the WDS being only a half-day park? With no major additions in the DL Park for years? Would be a big mistake IMHO unless they make the third gate a blast in the range of TDS. But a Marvel Park e.g. would be totally stupid and a guaranteed flop as superhero-comics are not even remotely as popular in Europe as they are in the US. They should add some REAL new headliners in the existing parks before planning a third park. Build the Indiana Jones Jungle Ride at last for example. Or bring the JTTCOTE to Discoveryland. Both rides would hook me and make me book a trip there instantly.
