Breakfast...Pre-Park

Hey guys. My family is making the trek to WDW this holiday season...first time back in 10 years. We didn't plan very well the last time so we're trying to make sure we don't miss out on as many things this time.

My party is full of foodies and early risers and all fans of breakfast. Since most of the days the parks don't open until 9AM - is there any places throughout the resort that offer breakfast earlier than 9? We'd like to go to Downtown Disney and also check out some of the hotels/resorts since it will be around Christmas time...

Any suggestions would be great.

For starters there are restaurants in every park that serve character breakfasts usually starting an hour before park openings. Cinderella's Royal Table and Crystal Palace at MK. Akershus castle in epcot Norway pavilion. A playhouse disney one at Hollywood and vine. And one hosted by Donald at AK. Booking breakfasts at 8 - ish there helps you to already be in the park at opening.

As slappy magoo said, you should check out the in-park early breakfasts. If you are set on having a breakfast outside the parks, many of the resorts have nice buffet/family-style/character breakfasts. I personally enjoy The Wave's breakfast buffet at the Contemporary Resort. There are no characters and the atmosphere isn't as themed and fun as some of the more expensive options but the price is hard to beat for a buffet at WDW and I like the variety of foods. There's also 'Ohana, 1900 Park Fare, Chef Mickey's, and the list goes on...

Thanks for the suggestion - I had been told by someone I would not be able to make a character breakfast since we are not staying at a Disney Resort...or was I being fed misinformation? If we are able to do this we definitely would. Thanks

You can book whatever breakfasts you want, as long as there is an ADR available. Disney resort guests have a 10 day window from their 180 days, whereas a non-guest has to do it each day for the length of their visit, but there are no restrictions on who can reserve certain meals!

Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge has a great breakfast buffet with a few "non-traditional" breakfast items (i.e. more than just the standard Mickey waffles, etc). Definitely worth going to. Plus you got to see what AKL looks like at Christmas (the place is amazing at any time of year to be honest).

In parks...
The following restaurants offer their first seating either at 8am or 8:05am
MK- Cinderella's Royal Table & Crystal Palace start seating at 8:05
EP- Akershus
DHS- Hollywood & Vine
AK - Tusker

Outside the parks
Chef Mickey's - 7am
The Wave - 7:30am
Whispering Canyon - 7:30am
'Ohana - 7:30am
Kona - 7:30am
GFC - 7am
1900 Park Fare - 8am
Cape May Café - 7:30am
Boma - 7:30am (I think or it may be 7)
Captain's Grill - 7 or 7:30am- can't remember

***I'm sure there are a few others, but this is what's coming to mind right now.

As for suggestions, CRT, Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare are our favorite character breakfasts.

Kona at Polynesian is outstanding. The tonga toast is legendary. You can drive there and then right over to TTC or just go first to TTC and take a boat over to poly and get back quickly by boat in time for rope drop

If you are going during the week between Christmas and New Years keep in mind that the parks reach capacity some days and close to non Disney resort guests. The earlier you are in the parks, the better.
Cinderella's Royal Table is a must do at least once. Its awesome to walk up Main Street when its empty!

ADR before park opening is great! Restaurant won't necessarily be full yet and you are able to get into the park easier. If you're interested in seeing holiday decorations moreso than getting into the park early - consider the breakfasts at Beach Club (Cape May Café - see Minnie, Donald, Goofy) or Grand Floridian (1900 Park Fare - see Alice, Mary Poppins, Mad Hatter, Tigger, Pooh) because both of these resorts will have elaborate gingerbread decorations. I believe Beach Club has a gingerbread carousel and GF has a gingerbread house. Though a lot of the character meal breakfasts have similar food, we particularly like the food at Tusker House and Akershus!
