There seems to be an assumption that Disney is simply choosing Brazil. While that may be true, I don't think it is.

This is the country that spent a fortune on bribing for and then hosting a World Cup, followed by an Olympics, just for a few weeks of fame. They poured billions of dollars of into new facilities that now largely sit abandoned and rotting away.

Putting a fraction of that amount into a pavillion that will be seen by millions of tourists for years and years to come... that seems like a no-brainer compared to what they've been doing. While it's possible I am wrong, I imagine there is someone or some group from Brazil behind this. I think Brazil is the best choice, so I would be happy regardless.

I could see this.. I think Disney has an interesting relationship with the country. I went on about 5 flights when I toured and every plane had pamphlets with elaborate Disney World ads.. My sister-in-law has never been to the U.S., but she wants to go to Disney (note she has no interest in coming to Mass for us, we'd have to meet them in Florida )

I was at the parks last week and noticed that there was a LARGE number of Brazilian cast member ambassadors walking around Epcot. Cast member name tag & a green shirt with a Brazilian flag patch & a survey iPad. Anyone know if this has anything to do with the rumored pavilion?

Nah, those are just super greeters! Disney brings them in during the months where the tour groups are hot and heavy at the parks so that there is a better bridge of communication between cast members and guests from Brazil! :)

Don't tell Russians they're European...
Actually, next time I see my uncle (he's a passport carrying Russian), I'll ask him about the distinction and differences. I've known the man for over half of my life but I haven't been the best about asking some Russian questions.

Very interesting! That was my second guess, but just wanted to see if it had a connection! Thanks!

Well, again, outside of Morocco none of the World Showcase pavilions are funded by the governments of the represented countries, so yeah, most likely some sponsor or multiple sponsors from Brazil are offering to front some money for a pavilion.

Welcome to the Favela!!!

Will they have the armed gang and impending death character experience?

Seriously though, I can see why Brazil would be an option - Carnival, the mystery of the Amazon and the beaches in Rio all make for potential content. That being said, I would have preferred something a bit more far flung - India would have been my choice.

Good point. Brazil very much wants to be see as a true "first-world country" (I know that term is outdated but I couldn't think of a better one) and I could see them investing money into something like this.

Although attractions are nice, I think of World Showcase for the cultural experience (architecture, exhibits, unique shops) and the restaurants. India, Greece, and Thailand would be great additions to the diversity of culinary experience in World Showcase.

When Epcot opened, I believe there was space for 19 pavilions around the World Showcase lagoon. Currently 11 countries are there, plus the African-themed refreshment spot. But Frozen character expansion took up one of the expansion pads, and it sound like a Ratatouille ride might consume another one. If my math is right, there would only be room for five more.
