First, that concept art's origins, as far as I know, are unknown outside of the person who posted it on this forum about 3 years ago. Second, again, I just can't possibly see Disney doing Christ the Redeemer which is a hugely iconic structure for Brazil. Third, I do like that art, IF it is real and IF they do something like that I am totally on board. But do you all REALLY think Disney is going to build and install a giant statue of Jesus in Epcot??? I personally would have no issue at all with it, but I just don't see it happening.
Have you ever watched Candlelight Processional? Night of Joy?

No but I know of them. I know they celebrate Christmas but again I just find it hard to believe that CURRENT Disney would do the statue and possibly even the other religious symbols. I would have no issue with them doing it and I would love to see it, personally.

There's plenty of religious iconography all over World Showcase. In fact, most of the iconic architecture has religious roots:

Yes, there's a difference between a pagoda and a statue of a specific person, but I don't think a mini Christ the Redeemer will be any more out of place than Italy's St. Vincent and the Lion of St. Mark. The biggest difference will be having prominent geography at the front of the pavilion, rather than focusing entirely on manmade structures

Disney is best when it's inclusive of everyone. Christmas, for example, has the most significance for me personally (and Disney doesn't shy completely away from the Christian aspects of it which is awesome) but I also love when they have displays/celebrations for non-Christians as well. I fully expect to see a Festivus pole in the park at some point. That way my brother can have a Holiday to celebrate too. Lol!

Indeed. There's also St. Michael the Archangel stomping on the devil front and center.

And to repeat what was mentioned: The Candlelight Procession is a reading of the Infancy Narratives of Luke and Matthew. All the songs are sacred songs (no Frosty or Rudolph or Jingle Bells) that declare Jesus Christ to be the incarnate Son of God and Savior of all Humankind. You almost expect a Midnight Mass to suddenly break out.

So... the religion iconography is out of the barn...

I just don't see how Brazil really fits. If you google image Brazilian Architecture you get a bunch of pics of modern concrete buildings. You also get lots of images of the shanty town looking areas. If you google their historic architecture you have some good images showing up but it just doesnt seem anywhere near as distinct (which all of the other pavilions are). If you do this with Spain the images and architecture, in my opinion, are in a completely different league and seem like they would be much more interesting to have in Epcot.

I also can't understand the idea behind them making a pavilion because "Disney World has lots of Brazilians that visit". You know the last place I would eat or go to when visiting another country, an American themed area or restaurant...

Disney mostly manages to pull these things off though so if it is Brazil i'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
In all likelihood it is being built because somebody else is paying to build it.

There is a church in Norway and a prayer room in Morocco.. so it wouldn’t seem all that out of place

Rumors are that ALL the Cast Members will be Gracie family members with first names starting with R and each guest will be treated to an excruciating submission hold and for a $69.99 upcharge that submission can happen while wearing an official Epcot Gi.....an additional $30 will get you a personalized Gi to take home.

Your ignorance on the subject is showing when you suggest a giant soccer ball to represent Brazil.

Like I said, there's more to a country than the 5 different stereotypes Hollywood shows you.

First it was a joke, obviously they won't put a huge soccer ball statue up. Second, sure and do you really think Disney is going to dive into the cultural nuances of Brazil? If so you haven't been paying attention. People are saying the Spain pavilion was scrapped because the Gigantic movie got shelved, think about that.

Try doing some research on Brazil and one of the first things they frequently mention as a huge and thriving part of their culture is "soccer". Around 80% of Brazilians are Roman Catholic yet if what we've heard here is true, the Christ statue won't be present.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'll give Disney the benefit of my doubts here because I more often than not end up liking what they produce for the parks.

I suspect the Imagineers will very happily accept some all expenses paid travel to Brazil and have gone beyond a Google Image search when designing the pavilion.

Mexicans love soccer and a similar percentage are Roman Catholic. So what?

Christ the Redeemer is one iconic image of the country, but I have no idea why you think they can't have a Brazil pavilion without it. I don't see Big Ben or the Tower Bridge in the UK, nor the Leaning Tower of Pisa or the Coliseum in Italy.

For whatever reason, Brazil doesn't personally appeal to you for a new pavilion. That's fine, but the reasons you're throwing out to justify your personal taste are very random. As others have said, Brazil is a big, diverse, and culturally rich country and, more importantly, there's a sponsor who's willing to pay for it.

Great reply (not being sarcastic). I guess my main issue is that I can glance at almost any of the pavillions and instantly know what country they represent. I am trying to figure out visually how they will accomplish this with Brazil. But again, looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

You know the design elements that distinguish Chinese and Japanese architecture? Or the unique architectural traditions of the Maghreb?

That's a really insulting post to insinuate that Chinese and Japanese architecture are indistinguishable. They are very much unique.
