Hey Gang!

I JUST finished watching the local television broadcast of the annual Boston Pops July 4th Concert and Fireworks and was stunned to witness this wonderful "Disney Tribute"

During the fireworks finale, "We Go On" from EPCOT's Illuminations was played as there finale! I never thought i would ever see this being used outside of the parks for a fireworks show...but here it was, and it was broadcast nationally too! It was interesting to see how they handled the song, and the fireworks they shot off to accompany it were very impressive. It is well worth trying to locate a copy if someone you know videotaped it...or if you live out on the West Coast, perhaps it has not yet been broadcast ( CBS station).

Anyway, just thought i would mention this as i found it a treat. They also used during the course of the fireworks segment the theme to Disney's "Dinosaur" which i have always enjoyed. It was great to see this used in a show like this!

Woo hoo Boston!!!!

I thought it was a neat little tribute someone snuck in..

I assume that since this is a nationally broadcast show, the City has to pay a royalty fee to use it...at least i would think so.

It was the PERFECT finale and fitted the mood. Only Disney can do it when it comes to scoring live performances!! :king:

Thank you for the reference. I recognized and knew the illuminations bit but the movie score I was like thats a Disney movie and I can't remember the name, so thanks for the reminder. Its not a celebration without Disney music

No problem Bluewaves...happy to help out!

I love the "Dinosaur" soundtrack and have noticed over the years how often this pops up in movie ads, commericals, and places like this. Just goes to show you the movie was'nt as big of a "flop" as some would lead you to beleive....

For those that have not seen yet, the finale was awesome stuff. Dare i say it, but it was as if i was watching a televised show at EPCOT and not Boston Harbor! It was THAT good folks...wow...it was fantastic!!

Definately try to hook up with someone who recorded it...it is well worth seeking out!

I saw it as well. The fireworks were a lot better than they have during the finale at Epcot, but they do that every night, the Boston Pops is once a year. That's 1 show to every 365 Epcot does.

I actually got back home just in time to catch the last few minutes of the show, and also was stunned to hear "We Go On." I just knew there would be a thread or two started on it by the time I got here. :)

Remember the College Marching Band who did their performance to an entire RoE suite a few years back? That sounded great played live!

I was so happy to hear the song at the end of the Boston show! This, coming just minutes after I heard the orchestra play a track from REVENGE OF THE SITH at the Washington DC celebration, was the perfect way to end the day...

[A side note: You know you're a big Disney geek when you play Disney light show music to accompany the fireworks visible from your backyard. Everyone in the neighborhood lined up along our street to watch the show, but my family was the only one that had music to go with it!]

I just watched the tape of the Boston Pops fireworks, and I had 2 things to say...

1. Who the hell picked their music? I mean come on, Aerosmith as firework music? U2? Creed? It just didn't fit...

2. Also, who the hell picked the hosts? Was it just me, or were they incredibly stupid? :lookaroun

Oh, and for those of you who care, the show was designed by Eric Tucker, whho if you don't already know, designed IllumiNations and Wishes... He's been doing the Boston Pops Fireworks for the past 4 years, and he's even on a show about fireworks ocassionally on the Discovery Channel

I wish someone else would do the fireworks for Atlanta! I switched over to the fireworks on TV after watching the Braves and I thought the show was terrible! Nothing seemed to line up with the music or song words or anything! I appreciate what Disney does to create their firework shows! This show in ATL seemed like a joke! Sorry I missed the one up in Boston!

Which track? The Battle of the Heros one? ( You know, the choir music during the climactic light saber scene. )
I'd love to see a video of that! :sohappy:

And "We go on" huh? I love that song. Why can't they do that at our local fire works show. :(

Yup, it was Battle of the Heroes, capped off with the STAR WARS theme at the end.

As for Disney park music in non-Disney fireworks shows, I think that may be too much of a good thing, don't you? It's not as special seeing it at Disney if you can see it anywhere else. Hopefully "We Go On" will be used sparingly in future shows. I must admit I got that warm happy feeling when I first heard the opening strands of the song last night...

music was edited

I did enjoy watching the Boston fireworks. I also realize that the "We Go On" theme fit the "dreams" theme that they seemed to be going with during the last few songs. However, if the song is an original, made for disney, then I don't think it should be used. If it is a re-make of an existing song, then it would probably be ok. Anyway, they edited the last few seconds of "We Go On" to shorten it. During the last few orchestra hits, they faded in the final crescendo early, thus making it shorter and with less gaps. It sounded ok, but turned ears to everyone that knows the song well. I personally didn't like it, but sometimes you gotta do what is needed for the show. Just thought I would point out that little tidbit. :animwink:

You are right..they indeed did a slight edit of the song near the end.

They also slightly edited the "Dinosaur" theme somewhat....i know every note of that by heart! ( Man...i AM a freak! HA HA!!)

"We Go On" is not a remake of a exsisting song...as far as i know it was specially written and recorded for the Millennium celebration and "RoE". It's all Disney's baby.....the Boston show used the track right off the RoE score on a cd! It was awesome..but it really stunned me to see this being used of the parks for such a major show!

Oh...and i TOTALLY agree with you OneVader.....Boston's annual fireworks show has over the years had some truly AWFUL choices selected for the soundtrack to the view. Personally, i would prefer just score ( like the NY show this year) but can understand why they chose some of the songs. Aerosmith was a obvious choice as it's a well known band from Boston and they have a tremendous cult following here. U2 as well...plus the fact Boston has a HUGE Irish population ( bless em'!). The "slow" songs were a nice twist, but boy they seemed to go on and i can see how this would be viewed as "dull" by the younger crowd.

Over the past few years i have noticed somewhat poor music choices. This year was no exception...but at least we had those two fantastic Disney scores to delight over! That more then made up for the rest.....:D
