Boston marathon

Two friends finished about 10 or 20 minutes before it went off. I haven't talked to either, but have heard that both are okay.

It makes you absolutely sick to know what human beings are capable of doing to each other.

Glad to hear your friends are OK.

Is it wrong to want to turn off all media resources, pull your curtains, lock your doors and shut off from these despicable acts? Reality can be too much sometimes can't it. Sometimes I don't want to know how evil humans can be. Having grown up in London during the 80's these events make my blood run cold, it's nearly 10:30pm here and I need to sleep, won't be sweet dreams though.

Keep safe guys, don't let these b@£tards beat you, although that words too good for them. Hug your families a little tighter tonight. Xoxox
nope. I'm not turning it on and won't look at the pictures. It is just too depressing and I'm not curious to see the misery. I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

I will say a prayer for those involved. :(

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted in Boston. I'm for one very thankful that all of my friends at the marathon came out of this unharmed. One of my friends was seated almost directly across from the first blast site (i.e. across from the flags). Just terrifying to see pictures from people you know in the thick of this. Ugh- heavy heart, especially hearing how many people are hurt. :(

Someone with a Facebook account correct me if I'm wrong. I saw thin on the runDisney Facebook page but since I don't have a Facebook account I can't see the entire post. I guess there are messages going around runners groups that anyone who has run a marathon should wear their running shirt in support of Boston tomorrow. I would do it, but my place of work has a dress code. Maybe I'll do it on casual Friday.

I feel for the victims and family but I'm more angry than sad.

One positive I noticed was the first responders and their reaction. My sister is an RN and she has saved a few people outside of work. Also used to work next to an ambulance company. The paramedics were training all the time. Great people.

Stunned. Never occurred to me that something like this would happen at a race site.

Hearing 2 dead, at least 22 injured, 5 bombs found (2 at the finish, 1 safely detonated by police, the other 2 in their possession being dismantled).

they are saying one of the dead is a 5 year old little boy!

I heard about what happened while I was at work. Immediately went to Twitter and couldn't believe what I was reading. Thoughts are definitely in Boston tonight.

Tragic. So tragic.

I heard an 8 year old as well. Didn't hear gender though.

It's really sad to think about this. I can't even imagine being in that situation. Prayers go out to everyone involved and their friends and family.

This is speculation, but I just heard that some places are reporting that police found 3 detonated devices.

Can't even imagine...

The man that fell to the ground just before the finish as the bomb went off is fine thankfully. He's on CNN right now. Said he felt a "shockwave" and he fell down. Said he laid there for a second, and someone came over to help him get up. They wanted to get him a wheelchair, but he said his hotel was only 6 blocks away and he could make it.

The man is 78 years old, and this was his 45th marathon, I believe he said. His only injury was a scratch on his leg.

Again, prayers go out.

Joel - are any of the Magic runners up here?
No. Not that I am aware of and we are a very tight group.
Surprisingly the world is safer and less violent now than any time in human history. It can be hard to believe with our current 24 hour news cycle pumping out death and destruction, but the data shows we live in a very safe world.
@Master Yoda You are the most level headed friend I have. You are correct by your statement. By the numbers, we are safer now than in times throughout history. I often times forget how brutal history was, but when you see documentaries or read about it, it makes you feel better about 2013.
