Boston marathon

Some radio host said that this morning too. As we see in the list above, there is terrorism every year, we just dont hear about it. Or I should say, open our eyes and ears to find it.
I think people hear of these, they just don't equate them to "terrorism", like we do 9/11.
The term "terrorism", has for many come to mean foreign and/or Islamic in nature.

CNN is reporting that a suspect has been arrested...

They are. But they are also doing one heck of a job covering their behinds saying that "Well, we don't know for sure if that is the case." and "Let's not jump to conclusions about this in case they are really going to ask the public to help find him." and all sorts of other CYA statements.

Edit: And they just had a frmr FBI asst director who says he has had 2 people high up in the investigation say no arrest has been made.

Gotta love the digital age and media sources jumping the gun.

True, and that is sad because by definition, it means: the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. Anyone can do this.

It is the curse of the 24/7 news cycle. Content has to be filled, everyone wants to be first and the result is 90% crap that you can never pull back. I am sure we remember how other devices were found, a bomb went off at the JFK library, etc.

I admit, it is kinda funny watching these guys vamp and fill dead air as they stand on a street corner saying we f'ed up, without saying they f'ed up.

But yet the aerial view of the courthouse keeps showing more and more press waiting for the perp walk that may or may not be happening. Oy. And still I keep watching.....

I have gotten to the point where if I hear them say the same thing 3 times I know they are out of info and just turn it off.

CNN has egg on their face yet again. There is something entertaining watching a DB like Wolf Blitzer dance his way out of a premature report that is totally wrong.

Ill trust the FBI. They say no arrest. Maybe at the end of each year, we started giving out awards to the news org that blew coverage and reported the most false stories Maybe they would stop.

We would have to make a distinction between incorrect and fabricated otherwise Fox would win every year.

I think the category should be, "Jumping the gun just to be the first to report on something, regardless if true or not"

There is always a second and third place finisher. CNN takes slot 2 this year.

I haven't been around the Running forum in months, since I blew out a disc and have been told by my doctor and physical therapist to give up running, but I thought you guys might like to read this article from the Wall Street Journal, an interview with Bill Rodgers:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...952654383738.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_sections_sports

The quote that I liked best (bolded by me below):

Tragedy was the opposite of what a marathon was supposed to be. Rodgers had come of age as a racer during that exuberant '70s running boom, and though he was a great competitor—he also won the New York Marathon four times—he loved the inclusiveness of a marathon, how anyone could line up with the trained professionals (Rodgers doesn't like the term "elite," considering it too standoffish). A marathon packed together so many skill levels and life stories. "We're on the same road," Rodgers said. "We sweat the same. We struggle the same."
That scope was something that the attacker or attackers of Boston did not comprehend, Rodgers said. This marathon was global and universal, bigger than one city. "It's such a human sport," he said. "I don't think these bombers get that—that when they attack the Boston Marathon, they don't just attack America. They attack all the countries with runners in the marathon."

The three races I did run before I had to quit, I definitely felt that "inclusive, family" feeling, and it is evident EVERY DAY on this Running at WDW forum. I still pop in every couple of days and lurk on your threads. And although I can't run anymore, I've been powerwalking!

Amazing that one person can shut down a major metropolitan area. Let's hope he gets caught. I don't think he's willing to be taken alive, though...

So as of about a minute ago, a CNN reporter says he heard gun shots, and there have been a lot of police movement since then. Another CNN reporter asked a police officer what's happening, but he just said to go back and stay in that area.

Nothing confirmed, but a lot of vehicles are heading in the same direction in a quick pace.

To everyone in the Boston/Waterfield area:

Police have said to get back inside and ignore what they said about an hour ago.

Lots of police are surrounding a house. The suspect if believed to be in that house. They are shooting gas in there trying to get him to come out of the house or pass out.

Everyone stay safe!!!

Reports now are saying that a suspect is "down", as of about 7:37pm Eastern.
Seems he might be hiding in a boat in someone's backyard.
Cops are sending in the bomb squad robot to make sure there aren't any bombs in play here.
