There were certainly better ways to have gone about it originally, not including actually following through on their original plans. So many characters and creatures frankly could still have worked that they simply didn't bring around.

I actually say split the land in half. Keep the Rise side for the newest trilogy and the village side for Mando era. Have Luke do a Jedi training academy thing and Bob's your uncle, Yoda, Darth and ObiWan can show up that way too.

I agree dump the timeline, but there is no reason to waste money on an OT overlay of Rise. The ride is great as is. Instead use that money to build a full table service Mos Eisley Cantina behind Oga's.
An overlay wouldn't be hard, just replace Kylo Ren with Darth Vader, replace BB8 with R2, Ray projection with Leia, random actors for the videos and update the screens to show Empire's Stormtroopers.

RotR also has many things that are in their "updated" first order forms that would need to be re-dressed to empire era:
- ~50 storm troopers
- 2 AT-ATs
-Poe's x-wing
-Tie fighter in hanger

Kylo's saber(s) walking toward you needs an update. As well as the one cutting through the elevator(s).

This is just off the top of my head. Possible? Absolutely, but it wouldn't be cheap or easy.

The main reason it would never happen is because the ride is super popular. They aren't gaining any ridership by switching over the the Empire. They would better off figuring out reliability issues and increasing throughput. Even those things don't gain them any money.

Except the second cannon no longer moves and there’s no plan to turn it back on (and neither move at DHS anymore). I’m not usually picky about broken effects but that one is annoying.

At DL I think only the first canon moves now. None of them move at DHS?

I rode it twice at DL last Saturday and none of the canons were moving.

Nice! I haven’t seen it with two working canons in a while. Things are looking up between this, the Frontierland log gate being back and the climbing roses on the Big Blue Dumbo Wall

Yikes. We re not exactly batting 1000 here but at least one moving is crucial.
First of all I forgot there’s 3 cannons not 2. And the only silver lining for DHS is that the vehicles move in a new pattern so it’s less evident that any of the cannons were ever meant to move. I’d take at least 1 moving any day though, that is/was a cool part of the ride.

Not nice. I said NONE of the cannons are working....as in they are all broke.

Speaking of broke:
Half the lights in Splash were off
The Mara projection, Snake, Rat screen, and boulder scene were not working on Indy
The smoke effect were down on Saturday on BTMR, but working again on Sunday
One of the Harolds on Matterhorn was broke (he was hunched over and looked dead)
The audio in the doombuggy on the first half of my ride wasn't working on HM

Lots of things are hurting there right now.

Whoa! What the hell did I think I read? That sucks! Not ok for Disney/ any premium product.

Indy is in really rough shape these days. I saw everything you mentioned here, and also the scrim in the Gates of Doom effect no longer works + you can see into the door and the framework supporting the fabric. The skull scrim also doesn't flash as bright anymore.

I've yet to go on a ride through where the fanfare at the end actually plays properly instead of awkwardly fading out. It's sad.

Unacceptable.

I certainly agree that character/entertainment fandom alone doesn't sustain the parks.

But "meet and greets and decent shooter rides" still add to the parks overall just as much as Mr. Lincoln's animatronic or seeing a live horse on Main Street or Flag Retreat or a CM wearing a lanyard to pin trade do. Not everything has to be an E-Ticket to be valuable experiences for people. I (and many others I know and see regularly at the parks) go for what some might skip entirely. Which is great for us as there is never a 70-minute line to hear the Dapper Dans sing :) (and we are as a result not clogging up the ride lines since we skip those entirely ourselves). Though I've certainly waited that long for special character meets and hours in advance for shows I love.

And I equally agree the landscaping/shade situation desperately needs help at AC - and throughout DCA overall.

ETA: but back onto the original subject of adding the characters into GE - in a park that from its very beginnings mixed pigs with pirates and pixies and princesses who marched throughout the park in their parades... refusing to allow the characters that people want to see into an area because they might not be in the correct timeline with each other is IMO ridiculous. :p

If they refused to allow characters in other areas to interact, there wouldn't be adorable moments like this one I stumbled on last week:

I have tons of videos like that one. The Evil Queen berating Gaston. Captain America talking to America Chavez. Things that wouldn't happen in a movie but CAN magically happen at a Disney park. It's what they've always done. And it works.

Heck, I'm used to Disney Characters interacting with Characters you'd never think of meeting. Anybody remember House of Mouse?

Also why isn't this on Disney+ yet?
