Today was Bob Barker's last "new" episode on "The Price is Right." It was played at its normal morning timeslot, but will be repeated tonight at 8 p.m. (Eastern) / 7p.m. (Central) on CBS.

I am 42 years old, and he has been doing "The Price is Right" for 35 years -- most of my life. I always think of being out of school (or work) when I see or hear the show. It brings back memories of either summer or chicken soup (because I would have been sick and home from school).

Bob had a salty side (as was demonstrated in the lawsuits in the '80s with "Barker's Beauties," which were settled out of court), but he was great host: always gave more attention to the contestants than to himself. He knew his job was not about him, but was show-business.

I remember him from "Beat the Clock" also, which came before "Price." A lot of fun..

Anyway, after tonight, he will be on to new things....

And, after a summer of reruns, the price will be right for a new host.

I'll never forget when he beat up Adam Sandler.
:(

Or maybe that was a movie... but in either case, hopefully he'll enjoy retirement. Best wish to him.

I hope he enjoys his retirement. I will miss seeing him on the Price is Right and it will not be the same without him. He always let the contestant shine and knew how to let them all look good. I am 32 now and remember crying when his hair turned silver. I didn't want him to get old and took that as a sign. I hope he finds time now to do the things he has always wanted to. He may now have the time to take some trips like the ones he was able to give away on the show.

Have they announced a replacement? Or are they not going to continue "The Price Is Right"?

They have not announced a replacement yet, but CBS and the producers have said that they will be continuing the show and were looking for one. Probably will be announced later.

This is from Comcast where I keep up with my news, and they've been mentioning the same candidates in the running for the new host...none of the names have changed unless you count Rosie now:

Among those mentioned as possible replacement hosts have been Todd Newton of the E! network, Mark Steines of "Entertainment Tonight," George Hamilton and John O'Hurley.

John O'Hurley is doing Family Feud now so I don't know what's up with that

Drew Carey to Replace Barker on 'Price'
By Associated Press

NEW YORK - Genial comic Drew Carey was tapped Monday to replace silver-haired legend Bob Barker on the CBS daytime game show "The Price is Right." Carey confirmed the deal during a taping of the "Late Show" with David Letterman.

The selection attracted more attention than usual for a daytime show because of the prospect of replacing Barker, 83. Barker retired after 35 years in the job last month following taping of his 6,586th episode.

The opening attracted widespread interest, including from comic Rosie O'Donnell after she left "The View."

Carey, 49, spent a decade on his own ABC sitcom and also was host of the game show "Whose Line is It Anyway?," a comic improvisational show.

He will also be host of a new CBS prime-time game show, "The Power of 10," that will air first next month. He told The Associated Press that CBS officials first contacted him about "The Price is Right" immediately after he completed a pilot of the other game show this spring.

Love Drew Carey, but it'll be strange seeing him host the show

I would have preferred Wayne Brady or one of the other bunches from Whose LIne. Maybe a lessor known. I don't see Carey lasting 35 years

I don't find Carey capturing the audience like others...

I think this is a great choice. I don't think Carey was very good in his sitcom, but I think he will excell in this type of setting. Luckily we didn't have to put up with Rosie :)

You know, while I like Drew Carey and will give him a real chance, I wonder if a comedian like him is what the show really needs. Bob Barker was a true, traditional MC -- he made the contestants shine, rather than the other way around. I guess sort of like Johnny Carson and even Jay Leno, although Leno does "juice it up" a bit with his routines.

So, time will tell. There is a true gift to being a good host -- quirky enough perhaps to make a glimmer every now and then, but mostly a real professional and a steady hand that steers the ship while everyone else enjoys the party. Someone who truly "makes it look easy".

I think Drew Carey can do that -- if his comedic personna doesn't overwhelm the performance otherwise.

I found this quote from Drew over at the game show forum I frequent regularly. It's from the press tours CBS had last week.

2:33 pm: Drew jokes that one thing holding up TPIR talks is that he wants to change the show's title to "The Magic Golden Wheel." Says negotiations are "going back and forth," adding, "It would be really fun to do. That show needs to be treated with a lot of respect."

I have a feeling Drew's going to be just fine with TPIR.

Here's a longer version of what I posted earlier

Price Is Right' for Drew Carey
By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

NEW YORK - Genial comic Drew Carey was tapped Monday to replace silver-haired legend Bob Barker on the CBS daytime game show "The Price is Right."

The deal was set Monday afternoon shortly before a taping of CBS' "Late Show" with David Letterman, where he confirmed it.

"I realize what a big responsibility this is," he said. "It's only a game show, but it's the longest-running game show in American television and I plan to keep it that way."

The selection attracted more attention than usual for a daytime show because of the prospect of replacing Barker, 83. Barker retired after 35 years in the job last month following taping of his 6,586th episode.

The opening attracted widespread interest, including from comic Rosie O'Donnell after she left "The View."

Carey, 49, spent a decade on his own ABC sitcom and also was host of the improvisational game show "Whose Line is It Anyway?"

He will also be host of a new CBS prime-time game show, "The Power of 10," that will air first next month. He told The Associated Press on Monday that CBS officials first contacted him about "The Price is Right" immediately after he completed a pilot of the other game show this spring.

"My agent called me and said `I was talking to CBS casting today' and in my head I was thinking, `Oh, `CSI' guest star?' And he said what would you think about replacing Bob Barker on `The Price is Right?'"

Asked if he found the prospect of replacing such a TV legend daunting, Carey recalled talking to a friend who knows the game show business who told him, "as long as Bob Barker is cool with it, the fans will be cool with it." While he doesn't know Barker, Carey said he's comfortable that his predecessor will be accepting.

The negotiation process was nerve-racking. While he was talking with CBS about the job, Carey said he got a call from another lawyer in Hollywood who told him one of his clients was offered "The Price is Right" job.

He figured CBS had lined up back-ups if the first choice did not come through.

"If I was going after a second baseman, I wouldn't just talk to one second baseman," the Cleveland Indians fan said. "If I were the general manager, I would be talking to a few second basemen."
