Boardwalk Bakery closing for major refurbishment in early 2013

it desperately needed it. one of the most unpleasant things about heading down to the bakery for coffee was dealing with the microscopic queue space they had there.

and since every ipad/iphone/ipod is now essentially it's own game room, ESPN didn't need to take up all that space with an arcade (even though i was a sharpshooter at hot shot basketball).

I agree, the space was too small. I was just looking at the updated photos and it looks so nice! I loved myself some hot shot basketball too, ha. Maybe they moved it to the BW arcade. :D

I just read the announcement on the newly renovated and expanded Boardwalk Bakery and all I have to say is - WOW, NOW YOUR TALKING, OH YEAH, FINALLY AN APPEALING LIGHT SERVICE MENU AT THE BOARDWALK!!!! We are DVC and Boardwalk is still a big favorite of ours. No offense to ESPN but it has a pretty limited menu. This counter service is what we have been longing for and can't wait to visit to check it out.

Bakery looks great and yes a counter service was needed for this resort. The only negitive i see is it looks ,from the pictures, you no longer have the open kitchen fill to watch the goodies being made.

Happy to tell you that the kitchen is still open, and has 3 large windows to the Boardwalk so that passers by can watch.

We ate there last night. My husband and I had the lobster roll - very tasty but at $16, not something I'd rush out to have again. My mom had the quiche and soup of the day combo, and my dad had the pork/coke slaw sandwich. Both enjoyed their selections as well. We had a peanut butter bar and the peanut butter/banana/bacon pie for dessert.

The new space is very nice with plenty of queue area and a long display case. The service was a bit slow for the sandwiches, but it was only their first day back in operation. When we went back for dessert, the line was much faster. All in all, I think it was a very successful refurbishment, and a good, albeit expensive, quick service alternative.

How did you like the peanut butter/banana/ bacon pie? I was looking at the photos earlier today and it sounds intriguing. I must admit, I find an awful lot of things are improved by adding bacon.

I too thought it sounded/looked very intriguing based on what I had seen online - I must admit that was my main reason for going yesterday. It was quite tasty, but I didn't taste very much bacon. Even the banana seemed to be lacking. It might've just been the piece we were given though, so please don't let that turn you off from trying it.

I think in the future, I'd rather have the peanut butter bar or something else. The BoardWalk Bakery did an excellent job in making our wedding cake, so I can vouch for their awesome cakes as well. :)
