News Blue Sky Cellar has reopened for Pixar Pier Exhibit. And TDA gossip.

The Pixar play parade is outdated and sad compared to TDL's new parade.

I mean, it's OK. I'd take it at DHS at the moment, LOL. But it's a bit underwhelming considering they could have really overhauled it. I assume they'll drag Soundsational out for Mickey's birthday? Soundsational is also a nice parade and I like a couple floats but I think it could have been a little better, too. But Disneyland at least is better at switching up their parades.

I would rather have one awesome parade (FoF) for a while than many mediocre parades (Sound, PPP). Ideally It'd be awesome parades every couple years like at TDR.

Me too.

I think FOF is great. I'd have selfishly liked a few more floats but I like it. A big upgrade for the MK. Same with HEA fireworks.

But ideally they would update the parades every 5-6 years. Tokyo does a lot of things that WDW used to do (that they should still be doing). Not everything was always so stagnant :/ It sucks management is so unwilling to spend the money on certain things.

It’s starting to feel like they pointed at the churro cart in Bugs Land and said “however much we make off that churro cart this week, we’ll invest into Pixar Pier.”

And then said “but let’s not get too crazy and just retheme the churro cart.”
I think they spent half the budget of a permanent pixar pier on temporary junk like pixar fest and the incredibles float for paint the night. Maybe they hope pixar fest's macaroons will pay for pixar pier? well, in that case, spend some money on it. The whole thing is as cheap as possible because they want to see an ROI on star wars: galaxy's edge before the thing even opens. Cowards.

Another bit of comedy: they open blue sky cellar to prove that Pixar Pier is much more significant than just a paint job. The resulting artwork reinforces that it really is just a paint job, and the model they built to prove it isn't even half painted.

Finally, have been checking the app all day. Was expecting day 1 of pixar fest to be a mad house. Disneyland has been light though space mountain has a 100 minute wait right now. All else is moderate. DCA? 35 for soarin, 30 for Mission Breakout!!!, 25 for midway mania, and 65 for radiator springs. Pixar fest is upon us and people are staying home. 40 minutes for nemo, seems normal, and 35 for buzz. Why again are we littering the parks with things people aren't asking for? Or am I missing something? Is everybody just lining up for food coloring and pizza burgers?

I am praying this is the IP flop we have all been waiting for. Pixar Fest and Together Forever are proof that "built in nostalgia" with IP's doesn't work. It can't be relied upon in place of good entertainment design and storytelling. Lazy theme park shows and attractions are just that. Attractions with IP integration shouldn't make the work of imagineers and creative entertainment easier. They still have to create tension, exposition, and narrative. Pixar's films are stirring, but pulling some characters and random dialogue out of them for a firework show doesn't automatically result in a successful show.

Question, was Pixar Fest essentially the start of the summer season? Summer hours, full entertainment line up, and blockouts? If so, aren't Saturdays generally the quietest day of the summer?

Pixar Fest is an additive entertainment lineup and celebration designed to boost off-season and summer attendance. If attendance is the same as last year when there was no promotion, it hasn't done its job. They clearly want the park to be at capacity and raking in cash until galaxy's edge opens. More money for them, and also, it'll lead to cast member staffing and operations preparedness for the madness coming in 2019.

Furthermore, it's still spring break. The other spring break weekends were significantly more crowded. Next week they enter a reduced off season operating schedule, with 9 am openings for disneyland on saturdays. Summer usually starts memorial day weekend. That's when they typically begin things like the anniversary promotions.

Thanks, wasn't sure what this was considered with is starting so early? Spring Break has been over in Canada for about two weeks, is this the last weekend of Spring Break in the states?

My spring break officially starts on Monday.

The real test won't happen until Pixar Pier officially opens.

While attendance this weekend may not break any records I think it's still much too early to conclude that the festival will end up being a flop. I'm with you though on hoping APs finally vote with their feet and send Disney a message, but I doubt that will happen.

All but the Signature APs are blocked out today. That is why you are seeing the lighter crowd numbers in terms of wait times.

Wait until next Friday when all the APs are eligible and see what the wait times are after 5pm. That should give you a sense of how Pixar Fest is doing.

Thank you. That’s what I thought. They’ve basically gone to summer blackouts and hours earli.

Normally, I take the position that everyone is a little harsh on Disney and their teams with what they do but I agree that Pixar Fest feels like a quickly thrown together money grab. I don't remember ever being so disappointed in Disney as when I saw the "Pizza Planet." I know it's temporary and just an overlay but it really felt like a slap to the guest's face. I thought for sure the picture of the tarp thrown over the Pizza Port sign was just a gag to simulate that the aliens were going to take over but it's actually what they did... threw a temporary tarp sign over the permanent one. And after watching the Together Forever show, I really didn't get the same feeling that I usually get from Disney firework shows. It felt like a hodgepodge of whatever clips they had.

I'll stop complaining now because I hate to do it about something I love so much but I agree, Pixar Fest really let me down.
