Blast from the Past: The Hurricane Charley Video

The memory of Hurricane Charley will be etched in my brain forever. It was a very scarey day. I had never been through anything like that before and I have lived in FL since 1990. I also lived in NJ and we were evacuated for a hurricane, but it ws nothing like Charley. We were out of power for 2 1/2 weeks. We had a county wide curfew that was enforced by armed guards. If you were out after 6pm and you didn't have a good reason...off to jail you went! We had no gas stations, no restaurants, no grocery stores. It was awful. It took a long time to recover (some are still working on it), and I never want to go through that again. I will be praying for whomever is affected by it. I know we will, as the center of the cone is back on us!!!

I was there too, and tbh i was dissapointed by the ferocity. Here we would call it bad gales, nowhere near as bad as people make out. I think the reason hurricanes wreck so many houses in the US is because of how a lot of them are constructed.

wow... please tell me you aren't serious. Just because Charlie wasn't as strong as it could have been when it hit an INLAND CITY, doesn't make it any less dangerous. What bout Hugo, Andrew, and Katrina?

What! The top of the castle wasn't removed.....*Insert shifty eye movement emoticon here because I can't whilst posting from a mobile phone*
No silly, when whole castle was disasembled and was put inside of the EARful tower. Why would they only remove the top!?:ROFLOL::rolleyes:

I went through Katrina and Andrew. Katrina was not a cat 5 when it hit and before levee breaches, there was a lot of damage. Tropical storm Cindy, some argure was actualy a low cat 1 did a good job of messing things up.

I grew up in the Caribbean and live there once again. I take all hurricanes hitting me seriously, because I've lived through their damage too many times. The reason I named those 3 are because IMO those are the 3 that most americans remember when they think of "bad hurricane"

Yeah, I kinda thought you were from a hurricane area. Not many people can put a light spin on them. When a cat 1 is headed no one seems to panic.

I mean, when it's a Cat 1, I'm not as worried as a Cat 5, but I'm still gonna prepare.

Hee hee, I was just reading a review of the new Storm Struck at Innoventions and how they debunk the urban myth of taping the windows and then the CMs were doing just that at your hotel. :)

I figured it would at least help keep the shards in one heap but I guess not.

Actually no, that was just us.

We taped them because... well... it seemed like the best thing to do under the circumstance. Its not like you can get away from a window in a Value resort.

Loved the video - it looks like it wasn't so bad in Orlando.
Just bear in mind though that people in other parts of FL suffered tremendous losses from Charley. We worked on a house in Punta Gorda that December, and that whole area was devastated.
