This week marks the 30th anniversary of my first trip to Disney World... My wife's (then-fiancee's) family asked me to come along on their summer trip, starting a life-long tradition of visits.

Tonight I was pulling out old photos from that trip to post to Facebook and came across this brochure, which I thought I would share here.... check out those prices! And the entertainment offerings in those pre-MGM days. How much would I love to hop in the Delorean and go revisit that trip.

As you can see from the back of the booklet, Disney was hyping Return to Oz as their big Summer movie that year.... here's Dorothy and Toto making a guest appearance in the Main St. Electrical Parade... i'm thinking this must have only lasted a few weeks.

That's right! How could I have forgotten?? That movie was so weird! I wonder if she was carrying a real chicken in the parade?

Lol...I think it's just a prop or that chicken would go bezerk..It kind of looks like a chocolate shaped chicken due to the light..

Price list from two years earlier...

Percentage wise... it seems like quite a jump in just two years for a three day pass. Somewhere around 40%. And that was during the time when there were still only two parks and although a 5 day was pretty cheap, it was just below what a 6 day had been two years earlier. Make no mistake about this. Looking at it in today's prices this seems really cheap, but at the time, it was hard to come by.

They even used the same picture from the 1983 guide.

One of the things that popped out at me on the brochure was the fact that guest were not allowed to bring their own food in. With all the nickel and diming that we all complain about that is one thing Disney changed in the guests favor.

I have this same flyer in my collection.
Nice to see it again.

I have saved a ton of paperwork like this from over the years, as it is always interesting and entertaining to go back and see what was being done in WDW's earlier days.
The pricing of course always gets your attention...

People still have a hard time believing me when i tell them at one time your could buy a 3-Day WorldPassport ( Park Hopper ), Non-Expiring ticket for $35 in the early 80s.
I still have a pair of those tickets still valid....but cannot bring myself to use them.
Fun to watch people's faces when you whip those relics out...
:D
