Bizarre SNL skit

Ok. Either I'm really tired, or there was just a skit on Saturday Night Live featuring the Under the Sea number from the Little Mermaid with Osama Bin Laden's body.

You are absolutely correct. I was excited at first for a Disney reference but that was not funny at all. But I don't really think SNL has been funny in years. Maybe it's just because I'm not that into politics and the show has migrated towards more political sketches than in the past. It's on as more of background noise.

But yes it was a rip off of "under the sea" and they are in the ocean when osama bin ladens body falls down on "Crabby" the cheap version of Sebastian. Really stupid in my opinion.

Wow... That sounds absolutely ignorant. :( I don't think SNL has been very funny for a long time. I used to watch it all the time, but it feels like the past 5 years or so it just keeps getting stupider to me.

I agree SNL isn't up to par lately. Though one exception was when Dana Carvey came back to host not too long ago. That episode was brilliant, bringing back Church Lady & Wayne's World skits, with an appearance by Mike Myers. The best SNL in a looong time, and certainly felt like the "golden years" of ths show.

But yeah, other than that, the post-Will Ferrell era of the show just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Thanks for the link. Wow, that was absolutely stupid!! But it's SNL so I don't see what else I was expecting. Not something to watch anymore if you wanna laugh. Sleep maybe.

i think its more of a generational thing. ever since they replaced the first cast, theres always been the "not-as-good-as-x-seasons" cast thing going on. you cant base it off of one filler sketch.

anywho, it had some funny moments. granted it wasnt one of the funnier things theyve done, but wasnt as bad as the charles barkley episode

I have to say, the sketch went in a completely different direction from what I was expecting.

I was expecting most of the sea creatures not to know who the body was. Instead, I thought the sketch would focus on Ariel's fascination with humans. Perhaps she would spend some time examining the new item from the human world, before someone explained what it was and there was a punchline at the end. Crabby's immediate Osama comments and the "USA" chants were a bit too much for me; I just didn't believe it. I love TLM and was excited before the sketch began, but I didn't see what was funny about Osama Bin Laden landing on top of faux-Sebastian.

Anne Hathaway as Mary Poppins a few years ago was absolutely HILARIOUS!

If you haven't seen it, I highly suggest you look for it.

Lol you don't?

It's a topical sketch-comedy show, not a tribute to the Disney Renaissance.
It wasn't funny because I didn't believe it. There are plenty of other ways to reference current events; I loved the Trump debate portion (and the Palin line about Katie Couric), and even the opening sketch had some interesting lines. I'm a fan of "it's funny because it's true" humor. But I didn't think using TLM sea creatures was very effective, and I wanted to like it.

And considering the number of people who didn't find it funny, I'm not alone. The humor was lacking - it basically revolved around slapstick. "Haha Osama Bin Laden landed on the crab! Then the current moved him!!!! LOL" Nothing clever happened.

I think the political skits are usually the ones that are funny. Especially the one last debate one, I love Kenan as Jimmy McMillan. And I agree Stefan is hilarious and I love it when Snooki stops by. But yeah usually most of the skits tend to be very blah.
