Birthday at WDW

We'll be in Disney World over my birthday, and we'll be spending my actual birthday in the Magic Kingdom. I've been told to stop by City Hall (with a picture ID for verification purposes) to get a birthday button. Do they do anything else for birthdays other than getting a button? I'm more than thrilled with the button - or just for spending my birthday in the Magic Kingdom, for that matter!

I was just curious what all (if anything) they do. I hate surprises and always prefer to know what to expect. I know. I'm a complete party-pooper.

Depending on your success (or lack thereof) with the button, Disney might subsequently provide you with a band-aid and/or tetanus shot.

You will be sharing the resort with hundreds of others whose birthday falls on the same day as yours. The good news is, very few of those individuals know about the buttons. The bad news is, there's not much else. The other good news is, you only need a tetanus shot every decade. So if you feel like living life on the wild side, I say throw your cares to the wind and go for the button.

Be warned, though, these things are old school and the size of the needle will leave a hole in the fabric of your clothing that will - after a couple of wash cycles - resemble the garment of a moth-infested closet. Keyword: lanyard.

This March I got to spend my Birthday (and very first day as a Cast Member, had Traditions in the morning) a Magic Kingdom. Anyway, I made sure to stop by City Hall for a birthday button (they don't check for id- honor system). As we walked around the park some of the Cast Members wished me a happy birthday and when we got to Pecos Bill for dinner, one of the CMs got the entire restaurant to sing "Happy Birthday" to me :o. They also gave me a free carrot cake. I know us CM at World of Disney try to acknowledge guests w/ birthday (and other) buttons. You may even get a special phone call from Goofy. No matter what happens, spending your birthday at WDW is a wonderful experience.

It honestly depends on the cast member.... some like mentioned above may give you a freebee...or a fastpass or at dinners they sometimes decorate the table or embarass you to the best they can...it just depends on the cm, the place, and what can be done... but other than that, enjoy the day and watch spectro like a small child would: right in front, dancing and saying hi to characters (they'll wave happy birthday)

Our last trip to WDW in April we specifically put on our room reservations that we were celebrating several birthdays in the group. At check in, my father and a couple of others recieved birthday pins. My father is not one that likes to be a center of attention so he didn't wear his. When I came back to the room after struggling to get to EPCOT, there was a mickey shaped balloon and a signed picture of Mickey wishing my dad a Happy Birthday.

I know normally you need some sort of proof of a birthday ...

... however I would really like to surprise my mother for her birthday and get a Birthday Button in advance to wrap up for her. She doesn't know that were taking her to Disney for her birthday this year and I want to keep it under warps until a few days before we leave. I'm going to be up near Disney World this weekend and would like to try to get a button for her even though her birthday isn't until August 8th.

Do you think they'd be willing to give me the button if I explained the situation?

I thought it would be a cute idea to do the box within a box within a box with the button and a few guide maps at the end.

I celebrated my birthday at Epcot this May and no one asked for any proof of my birthday. I just said it was my birthday and could I have the button and the CM gave it to me. I'm sure if you explained what you wanted to do they would give you one.

They do not ask for any verification. My birthday is in April for it my parents gave me some money to go on my next Disney trip. B/c of work and school I couldn't go until May. Obviously, I wanted my birthday button, since the trip was my birthday present. I went to guest relations, asked and received. No questions asked.

You shouldn't have a problem getting one, just tell them to put your mom's name on it when you request it.

...And don't forget to pick up your My First Visit button as well...

...hmmm, I wonder how they would go about requiring proof that this was in fact your first visit, hmmm...

Just tell them you can't wait to ride the flying Donkeys.

I was lucky to get all 4 buttons in 2005...MK's & Studios were the same.

But I had a great time! I Got random CM's to wish a happy b-day and got some random desserts here and there. But it was well worth it.
Since I'm going back for my 30th does anyone know if when you check into your hotel should you mention your B-day to see if there's a perk involved?

Sweet! I'm definitely going to have to get all the buttons. That's pretty neat!

My mom did the booking this time around for both of our families, and she mentioned it. She also said that they wanted to know my favorite Disney character. Although, she's sneaky and it could've just been her way of finding out for her own knowledge. :ROFLOL:

I just celebrated my birthday there last week. When I went last summer and it was my mom's birthday a ton of CMs said Happy Birthday to her and that was it. I didn't feel like many CMs (outside of DAK) said Happy Birthday to me. But I did get a free Margarita in Mexico but she saw my ID and saw that it was my 21st to that could've been why too. I also got a free cookie in Hollywood studios and on of the marshmelow diped in choclate and sprinkles on a stick thing. I really didn't expect anything free but when it came it was a nice surprise! It was the best birthday EVER!!!

Have a great birthday!

I think for the most part we should not go in thinking we're entitled to get a freebie or anything but a few "happy birthdays."

For my birthday, I didn't get any freebies, but I did get:

-a balloon and card in my hotel room...I did mention that I was there for my birthday, but only so I could get my button at the check-in desk.
-birthday wishes from Aladdin and one of the lost boys during the Enchanted Adventures parade
-"Las Mañanitas" sung to me at San Angel Inn with a free arroz con leche
-"happy birthday" sung to me by the Voices of Liberty

This was all a huge and pleasant surprise for me.

My sister had a different set of "surprises:"

-free Dole Whip
-free water
-free Coke
-also got "Las Mañanitas" sung to her at San Angel with arroz con leche.
-she also got "happy birthday" sung to her by VoL, but she made sure they noticed her :ROFLOL:

There have been times where we haven't gotten as much, if anything. But we always get a few birthday wishes from CM's.

I guess my advice is to wear the button proudly and if you get something, great! If you don't, at least you got to celebrate at WDW :D

I got free Pizza from a stand in Liberty Square and a brownie at Casey's Corner from a cast member who shares her b-day with disneyland which is the day before mine.

I don't think I'm entitled to anything at all. I hope I didn't give that impression. :) I guess I was just curious what all that has been done in the past.

Exactly! Like I said, I'd have been fine even without the button. I'm just stoked to be down there on my birthday!

Oh I know, and please don't take offense. I was just speaking in general since this topic comes up often.

Regardless, I hope you have a wonderful trip :)
