Biggest Disney Pet Peeve

As a few other posters have said, nothing bothers me more than people talking through the pre-shows and the rides and attractions themselves. I know many people think it's their vacation and if they want to talk through everything, it's their right, but how dare you ruin everyone else's enjoyment with your rudeness?

1) I went with my friends from college last year and it was one of my friend's first time on ToT. The queue had her suitably spooked and I was happy she was getting so immersed! Then we went into the pre-show and this obnoxious family (parents and teenage kids) loudly quoted along, made inside jokes, and flailed wildly when the group is getting electrocuted in the elevator. It completely pulled everyone out of what is otherwise one of the best pre-shows in WDW! I tried to stop them by hissing, "You may have been on this ride tons of times, but it could always be someone's first time and you're ruining it for them!" They completely ignored me. They continued to be loud into the boiler room, but I MADE SURE to pick the other line so we wouldn't have to deal with them on the ride proper.

2) Fantasmic! is my favorite show at WDW, but for some reason, it seems to be the one that everyone decides to talk loudly through. Every time I've seen that show, save once, I've been near people talking. In 2014, we were in the Dining Package section (you'd think people who basically paid for their seats would want to fully enjoy it) and this family next to me (again, a father, mother, and teen kids) continued to loudly joke and commentate as the show started. I shushed them as politely as possible and asked if they planned to talk throughout the whole show. The father smirked at me, said "Yes, it adds to our enjoyment" and went back to talking to his family! I was lucky because there was an available spot a few rows up and no one in my way, so I bumped back, away from those people, and actually able to enjoy the show.

I didn't mean for this to get so long, but these are only two of the times that stick out most in my memory. I'd need ten sets of hands to count the number of times people have talked through a ride (like IaSW, PotC, HM, etc.) and not cared/responded when asked by myself or someone else to stop. Literally nothing upsets me more.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to afternoon tea at the GF. This is an experience that I always look forward to and always enjoy. It's very calm and serene, especially when the pianist comes out to play in the lobby. We were seated and placed our order. I saw this family of five go up to the podium, not a big deal, but one was a colicky newborn and two young girls who didn't understand the concept of the "indoor voice." There were loads of tables available, but no, the hostess sat them next to us.

This is when the fun began. The newborn wailed throughout the whole tea, but nobody took the baby out to soothe her/him. The baby was also farting a lot. Then the two girls would belch and laugh. Nobody told them off. It was like the parents thought, "We're on vacation, screw it." So, the manager came out, did a circuit around the room and gave the father the stink eye, but never said anything to them. Throughout the whole tea, this baby wailed, I mean, wailed. It was ridiculous. In retrospect, I wish I'd complained.

When did managers start kowtowing to impolite patrons?

Totally ridiculous ...i would have def complained to a manager...people are such self centered animals!

My biggest pet peeve is probably people who get to the bus stop as soon as the bus is getting there but jump right on and sit down ahead of the people who have been waiting in the hot sun for 20 minutes. That's a complete scumbag thing to do. After that I'd say it's probably people who really never go to Disneyworld but act like they are experts on it and just tell everyone how horrible it is and how it's "too expensive". If you know what you're doing it's really quite manageable.
it really bugs me when the bus line jumpers try to play innocent and act like the don't know they just cut in front of the whole line

1. People who wave ipads and iphones in my face in vein effort to get a better shot when they don't need to.
2. Line cutters
3. Slobs who litter / trash and foul the restrooms
4. People who use ipads and iphones in darkened areas i.e. filmshow
5. Uncontrolled / undisciplined kids
6. People who think they have a "right" to do what they like at the expense of others, just because they paid to be there.

The last time I was at EPCOT (about 5-6 years ago), I ran into a situation that ticked me off at the time, but now I wonder if perhaps I overreacted. I would really like to hear others opinions about this.

Here's the breakdown: I was rushing over to the Test Track fast pass dispensary to try to get a FP before they ran out. It was a crowded day and the lines behind the FP machines were easily 15 people deep. I got in line and waited my turn to get FP's for my family of four. As time passed and the line progressed, I could see the FP return times getting later and later in the day indicating that they were going to run out fairly soon, but since there was only a group of 3 Indian teenagers ahead of me in the line I wasn't worried about my chances of getting a FP.

Now, The teenagers weren't misbehaving or being rude in any way, but they were taking in inordinately long time to get their FPs. Time ticked away and people in the lines to each side of me were advancing and getting FPs, but my line was stopped behind these boys. Keep in mind that I couldn't just barge into another line as the people to each side of me had been fairly waiting in line just like I had. I'm starting to get agitated and so are the people directly behind me, and we are all wondering what the hell these boys are doing. I started peering over their shoulders watching them, and it dawned on me what they were doing. These boys were party of an extended Indian tour group of at least 50 people that were waiting off to the side. They had everyone's paper single-day passes, and were slowly feeding the 50 or so tickets one at a time into the machine. Between the false starts and the slow machines, each FP they got took anywhere from 30-60 seconds, which ultimately was why we were all stuck behind them.

The boys were about halfway through the stack of tickets when I griped at them for holding up the line for their entire group. One of them piped up about they had paid for their tickets and they had a right to get FPs, to which I stated so did the people behind them who had also paid just like everybody else. One of the other boys suggested it was better if they just get out of line, so they all went back to their group, but in the end it was too late as the FP machines ran out of passes at that point.

In the end my griping at them was pointless, but at the time I felt like I had to say something. So, in your opinion was I out-of-line for griping at them, or did I have a reasonable complaint?

Or was this whole story way too dang long to read?

My pet peeves boil down to a lack of consideration from other guests. For example: flash photography on dark rides! It completely throws me out of the experience, and it's just so visually jarring.

But one of the biggest ones for me is people stopping in the middle of the row in various shows. The CM will tell everyone to "move all the way down" and they just ignore the instructions and everyone has to climb over them. It's inconsiderate and essentially saying that they don't care about anyone else's experiences but their own, that they deserve the best seats, even though it should mostly just come down to luck.

I have so many others, but those are the two things that really raise my blood pressure. (The cutting in front for parades/fireworks used to be a big one, but I've avoided that frustration by not queuing up anymore. I accept a worse view in exchange for not getting angry/defensive over the spot I waited an hour for and then a huge family tries to push me out of the way. It just makes me happier to not have to deal with that confrontation.)

I think you had a reasonable complaint. These boys were "virtually" cutting in, by gaining access to something to which they were not in a line for, which someone else was doing for them at your expense. They should have all been in a line like yourself.

TBH, this sort of thing does happen a lot (or used to with FP), where someone will get passes for a few others in their group. Fair enough, but 50 is way too much.

I'm shocked that nobody has said my pet peeve yet. When people wait until they are about to step onto the bus to fold up their children's strollers. How come you didn't fold up the stroller when you saw the bus pull up? Now instead of stepping right onto the bus, you have to stop right in front of the door and try to fold it and waste time for you and everyone behind you in line. Most of the time the person doing this also doesn't know how to fold up the stroller so it takes them even longer.

That was a HUGE problem at Toy Story when they still did paper fast passes. What people were doing was getting up early and going to feed the fast pass machine to get passes for when their family got there. So finally Disney got smart to what they were doing and changed the policy that in order for you go get the passes your whole family had to have scanned in to the park. I bet those kids were trying to get passes for people that had no true intention of ever riding the ride and they were gonna keep using the passes themselves. Yeah. That's messed up and I would have been mad too. I'm not a confrontational guy though so I probably wouldn't have said anything myself but I don't blame you a bit for getting on to them. I bet if you had told a CM though they would have just given you a special pass.

The worst thing I've seen at Fantasmic was sorta the complete opposite of "talking". It was two women just flat out french kissing the crap out of each other on the front row! I don't want to see ANYbody doing that but to do it at Disneyworld is even MORE tacky!

Man Philarmagic is the WORST for people doing that crap! Back in May there was this Mexican family that stopped like that with a TON of people behind them and the CM was like "Please move all the way down to make room for everyone". Nothing. The CM said "Please move all the way down to make room for everyone". Nothing again. Finally, the CM got REALLY adamant and said "PLEASE MOVE ALL THE WAY DOWN!" And then magically their English got better. Yeah. It's SUUUUPER annoying when people do that crap!

Not too long and I think it's a shame that you didn't catch on soon enough to get your FPs,
I think that's what the new FP system is now avoiding is abuse of FP privileges...

People recording firework shows behind me with their flash on.

It's almost as if people don't understand how to work their phones or understand how a small LED light does absolutely nothing while recording fireworks 200 yards away.

I'll probably get flack for this one, but I think the scooters that pull up at the bus stops should be put in the same order as those waiting ahead of them. Some of us have been out there for 30 minutes waiting for a bus in the sun (looking at YOU, EPCOT bus lines) and they pull up right when the bus arrives and go in first. Also, don't get me started on them bringing their 12 family members on board with them too.

I want to clarify that I only mean scooters. I believe wheelchairs, motorized wheelchairs, etc, should be able to board the bus.

For me it is the preroom exiting. You wait in line to get in, watch the pre show , then the doors open and it is a free for all. I always get separated from my family because I refuse to push my way through. I wish there was a way for order of entry to be order of exit. ( and so many rides have pre rooms!)

Ugghhhhh yeah...Test Track and HM are the WORST!
