Ive been hearing many rumors about BTM getting a major refurb after Space Mountain's is complete any confirmation or truth behind this?

Big Thunder Mountain Refurb?

If what I heard is true it will just be a paint job and replacment for the lift system.

I hope so, if they do a quick refurb now it may be tough on current guests but gets the pain out of the way for everyone else in one hit.

Really? I think it adds to the ride!
I always liked it, especially when you are heading through the dark mine towards the waterfall. Something about it makes it creepier, makes the whole runaway mine train that much more intense.

i asked search to be my friend and she said "no". i couldnt find much definitive evidence of the refurb news (yes there is a search function but it is no google).
im concerned because i will likely be there when the SM refurb is complete and it would be sad if BTM immediately goes down.
if anyone has info or a link to this mysterious old news, post a link to that post and that would effectively end the thread.

IMO it would take some element of the theme away if they 'fixed' this.

The problem is that the sound is from the anti-roll back system used on the car is absolutely deafening and really has nothing to do with an old train. If they upgrade this to a similar system used on E:E they will be able to add more appropriate sound effects to that portion of the attraction.

that's my thought...no rickety mine train I've ever seen (not that I've seen many) sounds like that...trains are usually pretty quiet.

That would be preferred IMO. They could pump in the sound of ricketing boards, and creaking aged wood instead of that horrid steel factory chain lift. Then once you get to the top of the hill they can play a big crash like the lift hill just crumbled and you got away "just in time" like about every theme park attraction. :zipit:

I agree that the chain lift should be replaced and speakers be installed to add more realistic sound FX for the ride.
Not sure what figures, props could be fixed as the ride goes by so fast it's hard to see them, plus the whole "aged" look of the ride makes it harder to tell what does need fixing and what's part of the show.
Here's an idea though, replaced the bats on string with some funky coloured projection effects of bats flying around. Might look more dynamic and realistic.
