Big thunder mountain railroad

I'm just glad they still care enough about the attractions they're refurbing to keep them open. So many great rides are gone, and for whatever reason that is, they are - whether diminished quality has something to do with it or not. So yay to them keeping open the loudest ride in the wilderness!

I agree 100%! I would hate to see some of the refurbed attractions go the way of Alien Encounter and 20,000 Leagues. I was there in July and it really broke my heart to walk by the Haunted Mansion and see it closed. However, the new Mansion and new SSE gave DH and me even more reasons to go again next summer!:sohappy:

However...I do sympathize with those that are missing favorite attractions because of refurbs. It is tough, but there are a million things to do. Ride or visit something you haven't enjoyed in a while.

The noise DEFINATELY fits the attraction...I would miss it if they "fixed" the ride system.

This is simply one of the risks of travelling in the off-season. Things go down for refurb. If you want everything to be up on the trip, then you'll have to go with the crowds during those peak times. :brick:

I've noticed people complain when things are down, taking longer to ensure quality work, complain about shoddy work, and complain when work is not done at all...It's an interesting mix of opinions :veryconfu

If I had to go one time and nothing was open, I would still pay to do it to ensure that WDW remained open for the rest of my life.

see, like I said I will still have an amazng trip with lots of pictures and trip reports:sohappy:

I also think that the noise adds to the ride. It is a runaway train after all.

And ticket prices would be more than twice what they are now....Further, if there truley were all of these "ruined" vacations from attractions being down, why are the crowds continuing to increase year after year?

Exactly why I posted what I did.

The "ruined" vacation comment stems from the fact that everytime a refurb is announced people complain...

I tend to go early in the year as it is less crowded and temps arent to bad(much better than the 15 degrees in Indpls) but I know when I go their is usually a chance a major ride is down.Splash Mountain is usually one of those I have missed as was Test Track one year(my personal fav)but while I miss riding those rides in no way,let me say that again in NO WAY does it ruin the magic and fun of being at Disney. If half the rides were down I would still have a blast as I am not working and usually visiting with family.

I love the noise too really adds to the "Rickety" train feel, HOWEVER when we were there in July WOW! Popped my back better the the Chiropractor! Needs to be a little smoothed out right there, or i'm sure someone at sometime will claim whiplash or something.:lookaroun

I'm not going to complain because the last time I went to Wally World the whole park was closed. Thank goodness WDW doesn't do that.

Talked with an engineer tonight that is working on BTMRR and he said that the major work being done is to completely refurbish the audio system. They are also painting, repairing scenery, and doing minor repairs on the AAs. No change to the lift system.

I have never gotten the argument that the banging noise of the roll back protection fits the attraction. Sure, it fits a roller coaster but isn't BTMRR supposed to be a runaway train ride? Hence the name Big Thunder Mountain Rail Road. I have been on quite a few trains and if I ever heard one bang like BTMRR I think I would jump off.

I am all for getting rid of the old fashioned roll back protection and adding some real train sounds.

I still feel that WDW should build 2 of everything, that way when one goes down for a re-furb the other can still remain open. This would eliminate all of the ruined trips when one or two attractions are closed during a particular vacation.

All I have to say is
