Probably expecting crowd increase in all parks starting in 2017 and going forward as all the new stuff will be opening. MK needs to get things in shape now to get ready.

1-2 weeks vs April 4th through July 15th which falls over Memorial Day, Summer Crowds, and the 4th of July week... absolutely
What is this Spring Break that lasts "1-2 weeks"? Spring Break crowds begin Presidents Weekend in mid February (2/13/16) and conclude around April 24th. There is no good time for a 10-week refurb at WDW now from a crowd perspective. So they go with the dates which work operationally. And why not close an outdoor ride for a good portion of summer when it routinely closes for thunderstorms anyway? Somehow the MK functioned without Pirates last summer in the same way that it functions without Splash every January.

Park is busy all year long and work needs to happen so some busy season has to get screwed...

As far as it possibly receiving the upgrades that DL got, why does it always have to be the SAME upgrades? Would we be crazy for wanting WDW's version of BTMR to actually be unique and receive upgrades that are not the exact same?
Well, the DLP version is having the third lift effects added as we speak (as part of a real, full 13 month refurb) so perhaps it's a job lot.

I guess you're missing my point that crowd levels are usually higher in the summer and over 4th of July than spring break

Splash will likely be down in the winter months which may be why this shifts afterwards...

I noticed the ride's a little rougher then it used to be, or maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

Still, this is one of my favourite rides (rode it at least 6 times 2 weeks ago!), glad to see it possibly getting some TLC!

You know what's funny?
It hasn't been run into the ground quite as badly as DLP. Paris will be 25 in 2017 and they are attempting to get the park back to opening day condition for then. Florida parks aren't in quite such as bad condition.

I thought the track layout on the DLP version was great. Maybe is just felt like that though because I rode at night...

Also, have no opinion on the theming as I could not really see much at night.

TBH Paris wasn't run into the ground they took the Florida model and applied it to that resort. If run into the ground is multiple effects not working, hotels full of mould and in the case of WDW a broken down transportation system ... I would personally say Florida is in worse condition.

Wanna bet? Orlando's climate hasn't been kind to the mountain or the track.
Even back in the early-mid 90's, BTM's track in Orlando was feeling a bit rough (and that was back when maintenance was actually competent). I also rode Paris' at the time when it was still new and it was incredibly smooth by comparison. I'm assuming no major track work has been done to WDW's in decades, could definitely use a track replacement. Disneyland recently got one apparently, so WDW could stand one as well.

You got me over here thinking whether or not I wanna ride BTMMR next time at MK
While BTM could be smoother, i'd be far more worried about Space Mountain. At least Big Thunder doesn't feel like it's going to collapse at any moment...
