Big River Grille on the Boardwalk or not?

Anyone eat at the Big River Grille and if so was it good? Thought I would take my Mother to some where good after AK closes at 5 but not sure where to go. We are on the Dining plan so that limits us a little. Any suggestions on where to go would be greatly appreciated. I have never been to the Boardwalk so I thought this would be a new experience for me and my Mom on her First trip!

Flying Fish is a better bet...although I never ate at BRG. Just an overwhelming consensus amongst Disney peers.
Better yet, bop over to the Blue Zoo. Trumps them all.

Kouzzina is another good option if you like Greek-inspired food. I've never used the DDP, but I believe it is only one credit. Flying Fish is lovely, too, but it's a Signature restaurant.

I don't really think that Big River is anything special. It's decent pub food but it's not a place that I would go out of my way to patronize. Kouzzina is another one-credit restaurant that is only steps away and is far better. I don't participate in the dining plan and can't comment on what's a good value credit-wise, but I'll also second the Flying Fish (which requires two table service credits per diner) as a good option at the Boardwalk.

The place is small and gets over crowded very easily, the food is average IMHO and not someplace I would go for a special meal. To be honest I wasn't thrilled with any of the restaurants there (this was before Kouzzina though). If you are at the AK why not head over to the AK Lodge and try Boma or Jiko? We loved Boma and Jiko gets good reviews (have not tried it yet).

We like Big River Grille. We make it our arrival night's meal. Wife usually has the chicken caesar salad or Mahi Mahi sandwich and I usually have the cheeseburger with kettle chips. We also like the selection of beers. :sohappy:

I've been there 3 times, each time it got worse. I really should have cut my loses after the first meal, I'm really not sure why I went back two more times. Its really nothing more than fast food at a sit down price with horrendous service. The hamburgers are not fresh but frozen, they charge $2.00 to add one skinny little piece of bacon to a burger, the kettle chips were the small little smashed up pieces you get left at the bottom of the bag and they were stale. The server was terrible, she slammed our drinks down on the table, spoke all of about two words to us and then didn't show up again until she dropped off the bill. Terrible!

I've eaten there and the food, service and atmosphere are good but as people have said, it's nothing special. It's your traditional Microbrew style restaurant and doesn't have a whole lot to it other than that. I'd go for Kouzzina (if you like Greek) or Flying Fish if you can spare the credits.

Food's not great, but the beers are pretty good. Worth a stop at the bar if you like craft brews. As far as pub food goes, I think it's better than ESPN Club across the way, though.

Decent beer- but poor service and mediocre food

I would check out Captains Grille or the Crewmans Cup Lounge-then maybe go back to BRB for a brew on the patio

like everyone said, food is nothing special, beer is pretty good.

if i were ranking dining options on the BW, i would say:

1) flying fish
2) kouzzina (breakfast recommended)
3) ESPN
4) big river

and ESPN isn't ranked ahead of big river for anything really other than i'm a huge sports fan, and if i'm going to eat pub food, i'd rather be able to check in on my mets/jets/isles/knicks while i do so.

on the flip side, the worst server experiences i've ever had on property were at ESPN.

We have eaten at Big River...and its just ok. They are on the plan but the do not take ADR's. You have lots of choices to eat..all friom above and dont forgot about the options over the Beach and Yacht Club. Capt's Grill is good and so is Beaches and Cream (they also do not take ADR's) Happy Eating!!

I have eaten there a few times in the past few years... it is decent, but not among the top meals I have had at Disney.

When my group was there in August, we pretty much all had burgers. They were good, but again nothing better than standard houlihans/Fridays/Applebees burger. No fries, though. Chips :(

Thought I had a pic of the burger...don't know what I did with it...If I find it, will post it....

I have a very personal reason to say yes to this. My DH and I honeymooned at WDW in April 2005. We drove down from MI to WDW and stopped in ATL and ate at a Gordon Biersch Restaurant. We mentioned where we were headed and that it was our honeymoon. They very generously gave us champagne and free dessert and the name of the manager at Big River Grille (they have the same parent company). We got to WDW and this was the first time in many years my DH and I had been and didn't realize we needed to make ADR's everywhere. So we walked up, they gave us a table on the Boardwalk and told them we were sent by the manager at ATL location and they comped the entire meal - including drinks! It was amazing! We really appreciate them making our honeymoon so special! So Big River and Gordon Biersch will always be special to my DH and I.

If it is a lovely sunny day or pleasant enough, sitting on the boardwalk at BRG is nice...especially if you love seagulls. :lookaroun They are a real nuisance there. I have been there three times and each time I wonder why I go back. The service is cool, at best...as in almost cold and impersonal, the food is just okay...it's just an average place. I go there to just relax by the boardwalk and escape from EPCOT crowds. I've always just walked up and gotten a seat.
