I think it would be a welcomed sight to see that whole area walled off and dug up. They need to accept defeat and put a fountain back.
Agreed. It wouldn't even need to be anything overly grand, but the area does miss a fountain.

As a poster said on the previous page the pillar lights surround nothing, even though they almost seem designed to have matched a water feature of similar height.

The planter also has a look of an old fountain deemed too troublesome to get working again so just filled it with earth and put some plants in it

You know what is so great about this article? Disney Imagineering is so bad right now they can't even install lighting fixtures correctly. Why are people not getting fired?? On the other side, Universal is building the most state of the art theme park in the world, with the best animatronics and overall theming. Not hard to see why Disney loses so many imagineers to Universal. 2025 will see the end of Disney World as the top theme park company, it has started already. What is Disney's answer?? They raise ticket prices for 2025. Also for all you pixie dusters that think Disney does no wrong their new expansion will be 25% as good as they say it will...happens everytime. They will hemorrhage money after Epic Universe opens and half the things will be cancelled.

EPCOT Lighting Woes: Changes to World Celebration Lighting Suggest a Shift in Design

The new lighting strips used to repair the cracked strips look opaque rather than translucent, which probably means they are not even going to be turning the LEDs underneath the strips on during the evening.

Sad to see this happening already, I’d have to guess that the white plastic is a new permanent “solution” that will simply eliminate the failed lighting. Why try again if you can simply make the problem go away? 🤦‍♂️

EPCOT Lighting Woes: Changes to World Celebration Lighting Suggest a Shift in Design

You're being very diplomatic with your headline. You need to remove the "h" and "f" in "Shift", then remove "in" and it would be more accurate.

“Repair by removal” that’s how they “repaired” the fountain of nations.

So the "shift" in design, is basically cap it off and abandon it and give it the Yeti treatment...

Funny how you name an unfinished theme park as state of the art excellence that no one has experienced yet, but you didn't apply that same laud to the two currently open Uni theme parks...

While the article implies they are shifting their design, it only appears to be repair and replace with different materials... Not an overall design shift which is what it really needs... When the only kinetics for the area depend solely on a lighting system that completely fails, almost immediately, it is time to revisit that central focal point and do something that makes sense for the scale of the area (Which that planter does not)... Underscaled and understated in an area that needs a "wow" moment.
They can (and should) do better. The fountain we were promised in concept art? The Wishing Tree (whatever that was)?
There were ideas out there...

Well I am really hoping this is an interim measure before a design change is made. Interestingly, the new opaque material is already cracked in places after just a few days.

I still can't imagine a them ripping it all up and putting in a fountain unless they already laid pipe underneath. (Not a plumber).

No I think here is close to zero chance of getting a fountain.

I am really at a loss as to explain how it got into this situation. Putting lights in the ground is not hard, and has been done many times before.

You suspect a design shift in the lights themselves? I guess I'm confused a bit. (I did read the article FWIW).
