News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

I'm not sure where WALL-E stood at the box office, but I'm pretty sure it isn't as popular w/ kids as other Pixar movies like The Incredibles, Toy Story, Inside Out, etc. Not because I think kids aren't smart enough to grasp the more serious themes/concepts in the movie, but b/c so much of the first half is silent (by choice, and to great effect, but children tend to have shorter attention spans). Then again, I don't think Ratatouille is one of Pixar's most successful/well-known movies in America (although it's one of my all-time favorites) and they're putting it in Epcot! In that case though, maybe the appropriateness of the ride to the France pavilion was just too perfect to pass up.

I keep seeing this suggested but would be really shocked if it happened (?) Lion Guard may be recognizable to younger kids, but that's a very specific demographic compared to Lion King characters, which will be instantly recognizable to pretty much everyone. I don't doubt TDO will go for a new IP here but...Lion Guard?

well I thought the same thing about the disney channel mickey cartoons, and look what they are doing with that, never thought I would see that replace the great movie ride, so I wouldn't put anything past them anymore. Too much toddlerfication in my opinion but they gotta keep the plush moving.

Merchandise is news I guess. Here's a picture of the World of Motion and Universe of Energy pins that got released this week.

The WoM contains small pieces of a lawn chair that was apparently used in one of the scenes. Maybe we'll actually get a Horizons pin that isn't just the logo for once.

One other thing to consider is that both Wall-E and Ratatouille have developed more of a following over time. Moreso among adults clearly, but they have developed a reputation among "movie people" as being among the best quality Pixar films as evidenced by their placement (along with Inside out and Finding Nemo) on the recent BBC poll of 177 critics of the best films of the 21st century so far.

http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/20160819-the-21st-centurys-100-greatest-films

Wall-E came in all the way up at 29. Ratatouille just made the list at 93. (Inside Out was 41 and Finding Nemo was 96).

Not saying this list means too much in terms of popularity. But Disney has few "prestige films" it can promote in the parks. (Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast may be the best alternative options on that front). Wall-E ranking that high may give them a desire to give it some sort of presence. Maybe...

It seems to me that there is an intent to shore up DLParis, which Disney now fully owns by beefing up the France Pavilion of Epcot. They're cloning a very popular and signature French attraction, they're expanding France's footprint along the side and back, and they're doubling down on a Parisian setting by theming the IG gondola station as Parisian, which pretty much extends France's footprint again across the canal. France is almost a mini-land now.

And hey, if you like France in Epcot, why not visit DLP!

I'm hopeful the new Epcot will have components that will make me want to spend a full day there.
I'm really mixed on these changes. I want them to hurry up and announce it already. So far it doesn't seem like much of anything is happening. I visited when I was a kid and then again as an adult. Not only was it not the same, but I really disliked the drink your way around the world vibe.

I honestly have never even noticed the "drink your way around the world" thing. If that's what you want to do, then do it. I couldn't care less. Unless I'm wrong, Disney doesn't overly promote it. Why does it bother some people? It's what people do when they travel the world. Eat and DRINK foods and beverages that you can't really find at home.

What's next? Taking out all the alcohol just to appease a few? Wouldn't surprise me.

There's plenty of threads about this very topic.

It only bothers me because I had got it into my head that "drink around the world" was all that Epcot was and all the real attractions were torn out. Epcot ended up being out first day and we rushed through it. Missing the American Experience, and the inside of the Pavillions since we thought that there was no need to go inside.
We know better know, but our last trip the planning was rushed... :(

The concept has never bothered me; the behaviour of some guests partaking in it has.

The solution we've found is to simply avoid Epcot on weekend evenings during the Food & Wine Festival.

In the new park map for Epcot's Food & Wine Festival, the Odyssey is turning into the "Epcot Legacy Showplace"...... any chance of this becoming a permanent addition? A One Man's Dream-esque museum honoring the history of Epcot like what they did during the Arts festival
Weird how they're putting that in The Odyssey instead of Innoventions/Wonders of Life/Millennium Village. They're still going to be serving craft beers and a few dishes during the festival too (Handwich hype!). Seems like it'll be super packed.

Aren't both Innoventions and Millennium Village on the chopping block?
