Not excited by the balloon at all, but if people want to take a ride in the lighting capital of the world they're welcome to it ...

And it's wonderful to see you spreading the sunshine around, Denise!

And just as a side note, I think it's ridiculous for them to charge a reported $16 for this balloon ride in friggin DTD...what a joke.

You should be able to show/swipe your park pass without is counting as a day, if the pass is not a hopper. It's just 1 ride, I think they can let people use their already expensive park pass just to ride this.

I am pretty sure Disney Doesn't own it, just leasing the space (shocker). But I agree I think $16.00 is a little steep, $10.00 would make more sense. The color is a bit much. No matter the price this will be a very popular attraction, its pretty unique. I wouldn't think it would get a lot of repeat business, certainly at $16 bucks a head. I know I will give it a try the next time I am at the world, unless of course the line is absurd. :hammer:

It isn't cheap, but I find the price reasonable. There was a lot of curiosity about it yesterday, I expect it to be very popular.

Denise

Oh yeah no doubt about that. For all the talk about the colors the pics I've seen look great against the blue sky. Does anyone know if the balloon itself lights up at night?

Does anyone know exactly how high the balloon will go?

100 ft? 300 ft? 1,000 ft?

And is it tethered?

I, too, think 16.00 is on the high side, would have been a much better value at 10.00 or even 12.00, but 16.00 is really pushing it in my opinion.

And great point '74 about the lightning issues. My guess is this attraction will be closed any time there is even the slightest threat of an electrical storm. Can you put lightning rods on ginormous balloons?

I read somewhere it goes up to 400 feet, and you're up for 6 minutes. (it might have even been the other thread about this topic on wdwmagic!)

As for the price, the Philadelphia Zoo has something very similar and they charge $15 for it (and yes, that's in addition to the zoo admission)...and you "only" get a view of Philadelphia. This is a view of Disney! We'll see what kind of pictures people get of the views from the balloon, but I think it's totally worth that price.

I think the colors are fine...they want it to stand out and be seen not only from the ground but from the air as well...so people elsewhere in the resort will say "what's that? I wanna go."

Looks good...the bright yellow is a good marketing/advertising tool in itself...I say good call on this one...I MIGHT be willing to try it out...during the value season...with minimal crowds.

Here's a thought that just occured to me, you won't be able to see the balloon from the parks when its in the sky will you? That would be kinda bad show.

Well 400ft loft will be the highest point within a 30 mile radius..... so those who complain about seeing the ToT, Swan & Dolphin, or the pending Hilton monstrosity...... well now you have a big yellow balloon that Epcot and DHS visitors will not be able to miss.

MK and Animal Kingdom... I am not so sure.... the size of the balloon might not be noticable from that far distance from the two parks.

Ahhhhh... but I didn't say view from the parks....

But you can see it from around the property

Meh, as long as you can't see the hilton from the MK. You can see the BLT but that is OK because the top of the building looks futuristic-esque.

I'm looking forward to seeing the balloon from the parks. In case people don't remember there is already one over DHS (muppets), it doesn't really clash with WS as it evokes a sense of exploration (around the world in 80 days-esque) and it will not be a big deal if you saw it from FW () and you won't see it from AK except possibly from the safari which I think would also be cool. Love the concept and location.

I think I can sum these changes across the property up in one line...

"ITS A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL...." :D
