Better than Lucky!

After watching videos of both Lucky and these dinosaurs I can tell you that there is no contest, Those dinobots are nowhere near as lifelike as Lucky - in fact they move in a rather crude robot-like manner.

Yeah, saw these on /., and they look like they put a dino skin on an asimo. Sure, they're bipedal, but their tail and neck doesn't move, and those are some thunder thighs if I've ever seen 'em! Their feet are huge.. no wonder they don't need a cart. Gimme Lucky any day!

Not to mention the fact that Lucky is life size and those bots are only about 3 feet tall.
Actually, it said that the robots were 5.3 feet tall, which is almost life-size. But still, Lucky is better. Go Lucky!:sohappy:

I found a video of these two dinos off a link from an article written in Japanese (from National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology ). Here's the link to the windows media video:
http://www.aist.go.jp/no_header/kyouryu.html

While they walk untethered and are cool in that arena alone, they are a far cry from the complexity of Lucky and imo make Lucky shine even more in comparison. I'm not sure if the sound effects on that video above actually come from them are were added later, but you can actually hear the sounds of the mechanics as they move around if you listen carefully, especially with the T-Rex. They don't do much more than walk and even with their huge legs and feet (look at Lucky's small feet and anatomically correct "backwards" ankles), they shake around a lot and seem to be unable to do more than one function at a time (walk or open their mouth or stand up, etc.)

I've yet to read concrete facts on what that flower cart really is that Lucky pulls around. I've heard everything from it is there just to balance him (so he won't fall over on guests if he loses his balance) to it holding all of the complex electronic equipment that controls Lucky to providing an actual space for a human to control Lucky's on the spot reactions and movements to providing the sound system for Lucky. Whatever it is, it is probably what allows Lucky to have so many movements and react in real time while walking incredibly smoothly vs just hobbling along.

After seeing the video, Lucky is much better. All these dinosaurs can do is walk at one time and move their heads at another. And, when they moved their whole body shook from it.

Definitely, these dinosaurs are not as good as Lucky.

 LMAO

Those things look like vastly oversized babies learning how to walk! I find it pitiful that Disnrey can make a better Dinosaur Robot than the nation of Japan.

As crummy as some feel these are, I'd still LOVE to have one for a toy. I can just imagine the chaos when I walk him down the street to my son's schoolyard to pick him up after school. :lookaroun  :o :animwink:

Man, Lucky should consider himself well, lucky! Those are some crummy Animatronics! The head wiggles as it walks, the sound effects are messed up, it can only do one function at a time, its small, it opens its jaws slowly, its a mess! Lucky really does shine in comparison. Lucky has more realistic sound effects, can sign autrographs, move more realisticly, and do more than one thing at the same time.

Maybe Lee or someone else can back me up on this, but it's my understanding that the cart fuction is two-fold. It provides balance as well as housing all of Lucky's machinery. No operator is actually inside the cart. He is controlled remotely.
