Better Scripts for CMs - Lasseter having an effect

Yeah, Lassater is a chief consultant for Imagineering and DisneyParks, as well as his duties at WDA and Pixar.

Also, I love Jungle Cruise skippers when they are on game. I had one my last trip that just nailed it. She was quick, she obviously loved telling the jokes, and when the group was not particularly reactive to her jokes, she just smirked and said "Come on guys, they ain't gonna get any better."

Actually, from my understanding, Jungle Cruise is being cracked down upon. My skipper friend got in big trouble because a manager had actually hidden on his boat, and my friend had gone off-script. He also told me that managers will hide out in the bushes and watch the boats, listening for any unapproved jokes. If your skipper says something that is hilarious, but off-script, he's risking his neck to do that, so appreciate it. :lookaroun

And if I'm not mistaken, Lasseter was once a jungle skipper in DL, so, yeah, I don't think he would be behind making the scripts more bland. :/ And it's also my understanding that Disneyland's Jungle Cruise is way more strict about scripts than WDW's is. My DL friends were amazed when I showed them videos of our JC, because the skippers were saying things that weren't on the script, and apparently that does not happen in Disneyland.

I have found that when JC Skippers really shine is if there is a backup at unload. I have had ones go through the entire attracts sticking to the 'safe' script, then we get stuck at unload. That's when they start to make up stuff. "I have been working here at WDW for three years, my parents are very proud ........... of my brother, he's a doctor"

An outstanding cast member really enhances quite a few attractions. In particular, I've been on Kilimanjaro Safari when the guide has an accent so thick that you can barely understand a word. Many other attractions really stand out with a good CM, including Jungle Cruise, The Great Movie Ride, and the Backlot Tour.

My daughter (fortunately or unfortunately) LOVES the Great (Big) Movie Ride and we must go on it all the time. I'm generally OK with that as I like the ride as a nice place to rest, cool off, and see the stuff. However, what is like nails on a chalkboard is the fact that every single CM says the exact same thing...

"I see dead people... the horror genre is one of my favorites" (or something like that).

I wish they'd give them a little (a lot) more leeway to improvise, but every single one says the exact same thing! (Oh, did I mention that already???)

Judy :-)

Yeah, I really hate that phrase. It was overused when that stupid movie came out, and then it was added to the GMR many years later, far after that phrase was "interesting."

I think something knew should be done at the end. Perhaps a reveal of a room filled with animatronics. Tons of celebrity animatronics surrounding the passengers on all sides and have those animatronics in the roles that made them famous.

They were going to do something like that. Instead of the roles that made actors/actresses famous, it would have been a bunch of the AAs from the ride along with the CM Gangster/Bandit doing a "final curtain bow" or something like that. The room was built for it (why do you think there is so much space on either side of the track?) but in the end, it didn't work.

I would definitely be among those that think the GMR script is atrocious. I feel that prior to this new script the cast members were actually having a conversation with the guests, now it seems that much more scripted. This script bothers me much more than the Spaceship Earth narration.

"No it's not George of the Jungle"
"Did you know Gene Kelly co-directed this movie?"
"Best last line to a movie EVER"
"I see dead people"
"The original wrap stars"

Unfortunately not the Backlot Tour anymore. When I just went in January its all a recorded voice :(

"Now Get Back to Work!"

I have to admit: this sounds like the scariest thing ever.

Yeah, most HM CMs love the job and get in to it. For lack of a better term, they take it very seriously.

I've been on it twice and was never really impressed. I guess I had some bad CM coverage then. Next time I'm there, I'll check it out and hope for the best.

Hail mary here, but figured its worth a shot: any one remember the names of some good skippers? They deserve the recognition anyway, if only for their hard work.
