Best Walking Shoes

I also really like my Clark's sandals. Before that I had a pair of sandals that I liked better, but they were an obscure German brand and the name wore off of the sole. Sure wish I could find another pair of those!
I'd bet the brand you're thinking of is Birkenstocks. There're pretty obscure and German. I haven't tried them myself, but I've had many friends give positive reviews. When I was in Germany, almost everyone in the group I was with bought a pair. Their website is http://www.birkenstock.com/.

I don't really have a preferred brand of walking shoe, but I have had some success with New Balance and Oasics

Obscure? Really? Most people I know own at least one pair, and I live in a relatively small town. My sister owns two pairs! She wears her Birks to the parks as well, but you really dont want to get them wet. They are expensive (a pair will cost about a hundred dollars) but they are really great. They are the best sandals, and they actually mold to your feet.

When you wear a US 14 EEE, there aren't many choices out there to begin with. The best fitting shoes I have found have been New Balance shoes although the running shoes don't seem to last nearly as long as the cross-trainers (but are better for the hot Florida summers since they breath better).

Different shoes never seem to help the inevtiable hot spots that develop on the bottoms of my feet and sandals rub blisters into the sides of my feet (since they are so wide).

Thanks for everyone for their comments and suggestions. I ended up buying a pair of New Balance 608's. They rock. I was in WDW from Friday (12/3) thru Wednesday (12/8) and my feet do not/did not hurt!!!! I was amazed. I guess I need to retire the Nikes for lawn work.

WDWHoneymooner - I did look at the Echos - think I will wait for summer and buy some comfy sandals.

THANK YOU EVERYONE, YOU MADE MY TRIP MORE PLEASURABLE!!!!!! :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

As one who is on my feet all day, I can not imagine being with out my Dr Martin's Industrial boots. Yes, these boots were made for walkin'. They are heavy, and they do have steel toes, and they do cost about $120.00, but they are the most comfortable shoes ever and they last me about a year (given i wear them 8 hours a day 5 days a week in a pub, they will last longer for most people). If I know I am going on water rides, and it is warm, nothing beats Teva sandals. If I am going somewhere i may encounter water or rain, Timberland boot are the best as long as they are waterproof. Most Timberland shoes are waterproof and are very comfortable.

Just keep in mind, if a shoe doesn't fit you in the store, it isn't going to fit you. If you are trying on shoes, wear the socks you normally wear and buy shoes in evening as your feet swell during the day.

If you are concerned about what shoes to wear at WDW, put a pair on and walk about 3 miles in them, walk through puddles, up and down hills, in the rain. If they hurt, leave them at home.
