Best type of stroller to bring to WDW

Yellow Strap

Greetings all. We will be attending WDW this September and for the first time it will be with a baby. Now we have always rented a stroller for our other child when we went. But he was 6 the first time and had different needs.

Our new baby will be 9 months old when we go.

This is our current stroller:

My wife thinks its fine for the parks and buses, I think it might be too bulky and heavy to carry.

I understand some of her points: comfort, needing to fully recline, amble shade and basket underneath. But it is cumbersome.

But is there another stroller that we may not know about that is perfect for Disney travel?

Thanks

The jeep strollers are very good in wdw. My uncle brought his when we went in november. It has 2 wheels in the back and 1 in the front. It rides very smooth, its not small, but it wasn't too big either, like we thought it was going to be in wdw.

Personally I would bring your current stroller.. It is so nice to have the space underneath to put the diaper bag and other items. I've considered other smaller strollers, but having that extra space along with keeping baby comfortable is a big deal.. It can be a pain to get on and off the buses and trams, but I feel it is well worth it.. Our first time taking our son he was 4 months old and it worked out great..

Strollers are tough. At 9 months, you really are pretty much stuck with one, and the PARK ones are probably not good for your needs. In my experience, carting around any stroller through the parks, and onto the buses is going to be unpleasant. So what you want to do is see how quickly you can get your child, and all the stuff stuffed into the basket out of it so you can fold it up and get on the bus. The bigger the stroller, and the more stuff you have the more miserable this whole process becomes. Not to mention how annoyed everyone gets when you are the one holding up the line. That's the best way to see if your current stroller is going to be good for you. You'll be doing the unpacking folding thing at least twice a day. That said, the stroller you HAVE is not a huge stroller. It looks like it folds up quickly, but it will definitely slow you down with all the folding. It will certainly meet the needs of your DAY, which is very important with a 9 month old. If you want something that is better, meaning smaller and less cumbersome, you'll be paying for an expensive UMBRELLA stroller. Like these.

These seem to meet your criteria and will DEFINITELY be easier to deal with. Hope this was helpful. Have a great trip!

:wave:We just went this past Sept with a two year old and had the same question. I would definately NOT bring the one you already have. We tried to find a light weight that had a basket and cup holders for us. The one we ended up buying was only 30 dollars and had everything we wanted (able to recline, basket underneath, cup holders, and a tray with a cup holder for the little one) but it didn't fold up as nice as the person mentioned above.

I would take that stroller for sure but I would suggest extra shade with that because the sun always finds a way in when trying to get your sun in for an afternoon nap. just got back with a 3 1/2 month old and we had him covered up the whole time.

I think the biggest factor is, are you going to use Disney transportation (bus or boat) as a primary method to get to\ from the parks.
If you will have a vehicle the stroller you have is great. A few years ago we drove to Disney but planned on taking the busses most places, after dealing with our stroller for 2 days we drove everywhere.

If you are going to use the busses I highly recommend a mid level umbrella stroller. You will need a good canopy, under stroller storage, and drink holders. I would not buy any stroller without seeing it in person first, unless both people pushing it are under 5'3", some are short and hurt your back after a day of pushing.

This is what I brought with us:
http://www.combistrollers.com/ProductDetails.aspx?CategoryID=3&selection=9&Children=0&productID=657

It folds up nicely and there's a sholder strap to carry it once it's folded. There's nice storage space in the bottom, a canopy cover folds over for shade /rain, and it also inclines nicely for naps. Only paid $80 at baby's r us.

Also the seat extends out so that ur childs legs don't hang out if his/her legs are too short.

Here's another vote for the Combi! I think I may have a different one than the one pictured above, though. I have the Combi Cosmo ST (I think that's what it's called). I payed around the $100 mark here in Canada for it. But I think they have a new one out now that has replaced the Cosmo and now it holds up to 50 or 55lbs (I know that's something you're not concerned about now but in the future it may be a concern).

Anyways, the stroller is very small and light when folded (a very important feature if you will be using the Disney buses). It does have a small mesh basket underneath. But as someone already mentioned there's only so much stuff you can carry around in the basket b/c when you get to the bus you have to unload it all and pack in backpacks or bags etc. The seat also reclines and I think it reclines enough for a small baby to have a nap. The canopy is a decent size and does shade quite a bit especially if the child is reclined. (*One little tip - I brought a beach towel with me to the parks and when my daughter would fall asleep I would drape the towel over the canopy down over the stroller. It would give her a nice dark place to have a nap and keep the sun off her while she slept.) This one has the carry strap as well which is a nice feature and the newer version has an adjustable handle for taller parents. I am actually thinking about buying another one (possibly the newer version) for my older son b/c I love the one we have so much and the new one accomodates a bigger child.

Do some research and read everyone's suggestions, I'm sure you'll come up with the perfect stroller for your needs.

Just a side note - (and this is IMHO) I think the stroller you have will be too big and bulky to carry on the buses! Trust me, after a couple times of folding that thing up, lugging it onto the bus, saying "excuse me" and "sorry" to the people you accidently bump into with it, then trying to find a place to stash it on the bus, etc... you will be ready to leave the thing behind! Again, this is IMHO!

I used this exact stroller when our son was 3, and it was GREAT!

But when I was there, I noticed a lot of people had Maclarens, but they are very expensive. But, there are cheaper options, even though the Maclarens are super stylish.

On our May trip, our daughter will be 10 months old. I got a Baby Trend umbrella stroller that was a few years old at a recent consignment sale for $15. It is similar to the Combi and the other such types. It doesn't have as much space as my big stroller, but it will suit our needs.

I definitely DO NOT recommend taking the big stroller. I have a big Graco stroller (the Angelique), and there's just no way I'd take it. For one thing, there's always a chance that it can be taken. I love my stroller, and I paid a lot for it, so I'm not willing to have some one take it while I'm on vacation! Also, space can be a premium on buses, and it can just be annoying to deal with the heavy, big stroller. Ours is one that's got the alumnium frame that's actually pretty light, but I wouldn't want to deal with getting it on and off the bus or a boat.

Have you considered not taking your big diaper bag as well? I've learned to just pack a smaller bookbag with absolute essentials for the time we'll be out at the park. That way, you won't miss the space as much. And if you're staying on site, you can just have your purchases sent to your hotel, so you won't need the space there, either.

This is exactly what I was going to say. While I loved our big stroller at Disney I hated it. For our next trip we took a very nice umbrella stroller like the one talked about above. It also reclined so that made it great if he fell asleep. It was easy to fold and no trouble on the buses.

One thing that I like to tell anyone going to Disney with a stroller is to buy a rain cover for it. You may never use it but it may also save you from a big mess. :)

We have 4 kids, and the youngest is now 3. We have had all of them in some point in the same Graco stroller. The front/back tandem one. It is a pain on busses. You usually have to have one parent load the stoller in the back door and stand or sit back there, thats were there drivers always send me. We have found it wayyy easier to drive. the stroller rolls right onto the boat, unfolded, to the MK. You can fold it up to hop on the tram, but we just load it up, and hoof it at most of the parks, unless were parked really really far back at AK. Epcot, 'Studios, and usually MK are not really that long of a walk. The stroller also rolls right onto the Monorail, its just the push up the ramps with toddlers i am getting to grow tired of. Theres a lot of stuff you can haul into the parks with all the storage underneath. We brought a diaper bag, small soft sided coolr, and a back pack with a few changes of kid's clotes, kids snaks, and sunscreen. Renting a stroller has just gotten ridiculous for 10 days we spend at the parks when bringing our own is free. I think the double rentals are 16/day now. its woth $160 to walk a little more. And no waitning in line for renting one.

We brought our Graco Metrolite with us the past two times-my son was 10 and 14 months. We just recently bought an Inglesina Trip and it is the best stroller! It's similar to a Maclaren, and it reclines fully, has a small basket (not too great), a cup holder. It folds up very nicely and is lightweight. At 9 months, you may want to stick to the Eddie Bauer since your child is still fairly young. They will want to relax, get out of the sun and possibly nap in the stroller. It will definitely be worth it! You will be hauling a lot of extras, so the basket is a bonus. It is what they are comfortable in, too. If you get a new stroller and the child doesn't like it, it could be an uncomfortable experience. You will have to fold it on the busses, which may be cumbersome, but for the comfort, it is 100% worth it! Have a great trip! Taking them when they are young is sooooo much fun!

Wow. $16. Much better to just buy one for travel. I'm surprised at how many people use strollers for kids older than 3 or 4. I ditched ours as fast as I could. My three year did really well just walking herself. When she was pooped, she rode my shoulders or we took a break. I definitely found having a stroller to be a giant nuisance and carrying my child infinitely easier. But, I'm in the minority. The one I used was an small umbrella, and even that was annoying on the bus. These new ones all look great for babies though.

Save your $$

Just go with the stroller you already have. Every stroller is bulky, somewhat hard to collapse for the bus and annoying to have to lug onto and off of the bus.
We just got back from Disney and took two strollers, one a double! We survived and now the trauma of the "stroller collapsing for the bus" is just a distant memory!

Save your money for important things, like frozen lemonades and more (unneeded) Disney toys for your kids!

That can a good, unless your child is extremely large for their age. I have a two yr old boy who is already almost 40" tall and 40 pounds. I don't want to think how much he will weigh in a year or two. That can be a load to carry, especially with as much walking as is done at WDW.

That being said, I'm not ruling out the possibility of renting a stroller at Disney for my soon-to-be 5 year old on our May trip. Those strollers are so big, I know he'll still fit in one (he's 97th percentile on height and weight for his age, so he's a big kid). I know he's old, but if he's struggling to keep up on day 4, I'd rather shell out the bucks instead of constantly getting him to keep up and making him miserable.

For an older child, say 3/4, I would still use an umbrella stroller. It's faster to get around to put them in it and go. After the age of 4 I would make them walk.

My youngest child has just turned 7 and it was so nice not having to keep up with a stroller at the parks but I missed being able to keep some items in it.:)

Two stroller tips. before you go, cut a large piece of plastic that fits over the whole stroller, and get a bungee cord that fits around at the wheels, that is the best way to keep a stroller dry. And it wont blow off, or get knocked off when the move it around. Also, tie some sort of bright , identifible ribbon, or plastic streamer to the handle. Youll find your stroller so much easier among the sea of strollers, You would be surprised how many Graco Duo-strollers there are. This is probably the last trip for old faithfull. Our youngest just turned 3, and next year there all walking.
