Best Time to Visit in May?

Two years ago, we visited the World much later in the spring than we had intended. Our trip was in early May. Much to our surprise and delight, we found nearly empty parks. Almost no attraction had anything more than a 20 minute wait, and most attractions were walk ons. The number of things we were able to accomplish in one day was tremendous. Several cast members explained that we were visiting during a roughly three week window between the end of Spring/Easter break and before summer vacation started. I imagine each year is a little different depending on when Easter falls. Does anyone know what weeks would be similar this upcoming May of 2007? (I don't have school-aged kids, so I'm not familiar with the school calendar.)

Schools vary across the country, so I'm not sure if I can help. However, last year we were thereduring the 3rd weekend in May, and it was a little more crowded than we had expected. Nothing like the summer months, but busy never the less. It was also during the Flower and Garden show at Epcot, and also a weekend, which always draws more people in. I'd say that the earlier in May that you could go, the better.

HI: This past May I was there the second week of May and it was somewhat slow, but got busy towards the weekend because of Mother's Day. In 2005 I was there the very first week of May (end of April) and it was extremely slow.

In 2007, we are planning on leaving for the world the 28th of April (all school breaks will be over) and returning home on May 5 or 6th. I expect it to be slow. Well, I hope it is!

Plus, The Flower and Garden Show in Epcot is absolutely wonderful!

I have a kid in school so we have gone the last week in May in years past. It seems however, that since 9/11 it has been getting more crowded every year at that time.

I would suggest going as early in May as you can. I love that time of year. EPCOT is so pretty with the FG festival.

The last 2 weeks in May are my favorite. That is of course Star Wars weekends at MGM so I am a little biased.:D

Crowds are typically lighter during the beginning of the month but never really reach an unbearable point during the month of May

We have always gone in May around our anniversary (13 May, 18 years ago) yes 18 years to same DH.

:animwink: :animwink: SHHHH Big Secret - This time of the year is great, not very crowded, weather is great, the longest wait was 20 minutes, the Flower and Garden Festival is beautiful. After Easter and before most schools let out for the summer. ADR's are easy to get, most of the time we go to guest relations ask for a reservation that evening and get the time we want.

So we will be there next May on our Anniversary, which happens to be Mother's Day, DH can get two celebrations for one that day!!
So if you are there I will be in the MK just look for the redhead with the bride's ears on and chasing a 4yr old DGS:lol:
161 Days and we are there!!!:sohappy:

This is a total guess, but for 2007, I'd suggest arriving no earlier than the 14th, and departing no later than the 24th.

You might still have Stars Weekends crowds, and the closer you get to the 24th, the busier it'll get as people start taking long weekends off for Memorial Day, but that'll probably be about as dead as it gets.

We love mid-May trips. We've been each of the last 4 or 5 years. DW birthday in 5/18, so we'll be figuring out which week we want to go this year. We typically do 6 - 10 days in the spring and it's so peaceful and beautiful with the FG show. Looking at 5/11 - 5/20

I'll be Honeymooning there May 20 to the 27. I have never been there that late in May (I usually go in mid April very early May). I'm just praying the crowd level will be low...fingers crossed :D

Last year, May 17-23 was incredibly slow! Despite Flower & Garden and Stars Wars Weekends, crowds were not around. It was a very pleasant surprise and a great vacation. Just passing my experience along...

I always go in May and have yet to hit a bad time yet. Just don't go during their peak Spring Break time, and yes, it's a little busy at Mother's Day, but not too bad. I also hit one day of Star Wars Weekends last year. MGM was HOPPIN' like I've not seen it (I've never been in a busy season) and it was really cool, so if you like Star Wars you'd really like it.

Oh, and as said be several others, Epcot is gorgious!

We're going the second week of May - the 6th through the 13th. Mothers day weekend will probably be busy, but I believe that school systems won't start to end their years until the following two weeks.

The earlier in May the better, but don't go in April because of spring breaks. And try not to tie your week in with Memorial day weekend... since that can get really busy during the latter part of the week when people take extended weekends to Disney for golf and theme parks.

On average the first week of May seems to be the quietest time of the month. It also seems to be off season and some rates may be cheaper than other times.

We just went in may of this year (6-13th) It was perfect...barley any lines for anything! We overheard alot of people saying local schools would be out in the next week or two after that...the only thing we encountered were alot of high school graduation trips

I was there the last week of May and into June this year. I didn't find the crowds bad at all, but I did notice larger crowds toward the end of our visit. I'm going to try to pull that off again next year and hope for more of the same. :)

I was there mid-May for Star Wars/Flower & Garden (third year in a row). During those events, DS and EPCOT were busy on the weekends, but light crowds during the week. Agree with other posts: lighter crowds, milder weather, and special events make May one of our favorite times to go.
