I agree the week before thanksgiving is great. the temps are great, very little rain. I am going early this year (this week) so we could catch the end of food and wine and I hope that it is just as good. Have fun!

Make sure to find out which week is Jersey Week! That week will be much more crowded. We went the week before Thanksgiving week last year and it was wonderful. The weather was great. The Christmas decorations and party really made for a killer kick-off to the holiday season.

The NJEA annual convention that usually causes "Jersey Week" typically takes place either the first or second week in November. As a kid, it always felt like they planned it around Veteran's Day and considering the 2011 convention is the 10th-11th...it looks like they are still going that route. If memory serves correctly- it's usually the 2nd weekend since the first weekend is normally used for All-State concerts and activities.

What's really crazy...I grew up in NJ and went K-12 in the NJ public school system and never once heard of Jersey week until getting on the various Disney boards a couple of years ago. The convention only gives the kids 2 days off from school, so I never knew anyone who did much of anything around that time. None of my family left in NJ does/did anything vacay wise w/their kids during that time and all of my friends from high school who still reside up there and have children stay put during that time as well. i.e. nobody I know or have known from the Garden State ever ventures to WDW during the NJEA convention. So, I guess everyone I don't know in NJ goes to WDW during the convention.:ROFLOL::D

One word of caution with the week before Thanksgiving...I don't know about other parts of the south or even the state of TX as a whole, but I currently reside in TX and the public schools in my area take off the entire week of Thanksgiving. We're debating about going the week of Thanksgiving in either 2012 or 2013 for that reason.

I always heard that the weekend after thanksgiving (not black Friday - the following weekend) was the best time. We went then in 2007 and vowed to never go any other time based on the small crowds. We have gone twice since in the summer due to our kids being in school and not wanting to take them out for a good long trip. Would love to go back after thanksgiving, it was a great way to kick off the Christmas season for us with all of the decorations in place as well as the Very Merry Chrismas Party.
My neighbor went during "Jersey Week" and thought that the crowds were small, with a majority of the people that they talked to being from NJ as we are. Seems like NJ is the only set of school districts with any sort of break during that week so the Disney crowds were still lower than most times of the year. That is why I would say the week I stated above would be better, no state in the country has any breaks then. The Texas break is over and everyone, including colleges are finishing up before the Christmas Holiday break.

Jersey week is always the week of Election Day. Some schools here in South Jersey have off 3 days, Wed-Fri. I have been to Disney many times during Jersey Week, and it can be quite crowded. Last time I went a bus driver had told me the week prior has been practically empty! I have also arrived in the "World" on Black Friday and spent a week. I think that was the least crowded I have ever experienced. Only bummer was that a jacket was needed in the evenings. I'm going to Orlando for a conference the first week of Dec. and am looking forward to spending a weekend seeing all of the holiday decor.

Yes, the public schools here are out all of Thanksgiving week. That's why last year we chose the week prior. Honestly, I think that's been my favorite time of year yet. Not having to work around school schedules for our boys is one of those side-perks to homeschooling. :D

We have gone several times the week after thanksgiving. It is crazy watching the amount of crowds leaving saturday and sunday with the parks being practically empty come monday for the whole week. It is great!

We have always gone the week after Thanksgiving. We usually arrive on Sunday. The crowds have always been very low and we were able to pretty much walk on most of the rides. This year we are checking on Nov 26th (Sat).

I've been for a long weekend - started on Black Friday.
DHS friday night was crowded but bearable.
The rest of the weekend was average ... had a great trip.
