All the resorts under $100 are pretty much the same when it comes to service, food, transportation etc... You won't find a monorail station in a value resort. All the value resorts provide busses to the parks. If you want there are some deluxe resort which offer the service of the monorail and are close to the MK. They're pretty pricy so it all depends on what budget you're going!

resorts under $100

You will only find that price at the All Star Resorts and Pop Century. These only have bus transportation. The bus transportation isn't a bad thing, it just takes longer to get some places then others. You will be able to go anywhere on property but if you aren't going to the parks or downtown disney/pleasure island, please be aware you will have to change buses somewhere. If you want to go to other resorts etc, you will have to change buses at either a park or downtown disney. I am staying in the newest, Pop Century, in October. I have stayed at all 3 of the All Stars. Keep in mind with the All Stars...Movies is the newest of the 3 but at the end of the line for buses that do all 3 of them. Music and Sports are older but not by much and music has great themed areas but Sports is the first on the pick up line and drop off line of the three. Hope this helps.

If you are relying on bus transportation then stay at Pop Century. All 3 of the All Star resorts share busses so they are always packed! Pop Century has its own bus. Plus it's new!

I think the least expensive hotel rooms that would give you access to the monorail would be some rooms at the Contempoary, and they start at $230 in the value season, so, sorry to say, that's not an option if you need to keep it under 100 bucks a night.

I don't know how many people are in your family, AND I don't know their ages (young kids? Preteens? Teens? Babies?), AND I don't know how long you're staying, AND I don't know if you plan on going back to Disney any time soon, but I'm guessing you're just starting to check out how to save on a Disney vacation, so here's something to think about...

If you buy even one annual pass for yourself, and then less-expensive passes for the rest of your family, you'll have access to much cheaper hotel rates on Disney property, sometimes up to 45% off. You still won't be able to do a monorail-hotel for under 100, but you can get nicer hotel rooms with more bells and whistles. I was quoted hotel rooms at 2 of the moderately priced resorts, Port Orleans and Carribbean Beach, for less than 90 a night, pre-tax (and I've stayed at Port Orleans, and it's beautiful). I'm staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for (I think) $120 a night, and those are rooms that normally cost $200 a night. I'm staying 10 nights, so even buying Annual Passes for two people, it was still cheaper than buying any other pass and buying the hotel room at regular rates.

And think about this, at the Fort Wilderness campground, they have really nice-sized cabins available for rent that sleep up to 6. IF you have an annual pass, I think the cabins would start at about $140, but they have full kitchens so you can make some of your own meals and save money, PLUS you're close to the Trail's End Buffet which is considered the best meal deal in all of WDW, they have tons of stuff for kids to do (campfire songs, petting zoos, nightly movies), and you have ferry access to the Magic Kingdom. I THINK (not sure) that you also have ferry access to the Contemporary resort, where you can jump on a monorail to the Magic Kingdom.

Even if you wind up staying at the Value Resorts like Pop Century or All-Star Resorts (and I'd also recommend Pop Century first), you'll still get really good rates with one annual pass in the family (and you only need one). Plus, if you DO wind up going back within a year, that's one less pass you'll have to buy, AND you'll still get savings on your room!

If there are people in your family who really want to ride the monorail, you'll still have access to ride one. You can also get a meal at one of the restaurants that are connected by monorail, like brekafast at Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary Resort. My suggestion: On one of the days that the Magic Kingdom opens an hour early, make the latest possible breakfast Priority Seating for Chef Mickey's. Grab a light breakfast at your hotel (a bagel and coffee, or cereal and OJ), get to the Magic Kingdom, ride as much as you can. When it's time to leave to go to your late breakfast at Chef Mickey's, notice how crowded the Magic Kingdom is. If the crowds don't seem too huge, take the monorail to Chef Mickey's, gorge yourself enough that you won't miss lunch, and go back to the Magic Kingdom. If the crowds do seem large, then consider taking a bus from the Contemporary Resort to another park (assuming you're getting passes for the family that'll allow you to jump from Park to Park, they're called Park-Hoppers). OR...OR!!!-go back to the Magic Kingdom and take the loooong monorail to Epcot (again, IF you have Park-Hoppers).

I know this was a whole lot of info, probably more than you wanted, let alone asked for. But I hope it helps.

Hey there, If you are a Florida resident you get the best discount that Disney offers in terms of a room rate. That having been said, have you written to our travel sponsor, Kingdom Konsultant and asked her for her opinion?? She is a Disney Specialist Travel Agent who has worked with many people on this board, including myself, to get them the best travel experience for the money!! I would have your parents call her at 1866-566-7858 ( KONSULT) and speak with her to get the best idea of all of the option available!!
BTW Slappy, I Am sooooooo impressed with your post on this thread!! Great Job!!!

Go to mousesavers.com
There is information on the current discounts, including Florida resident ones.
There is also a chart of the regular room prices so you can see how much of a discount you're getting.

The time of year you're going makes a HUGE difference in the room rates. Sometimes you can adjust your travel times, but with kids in school, you have fewer options.

And you can ride the monorail any time--you don't have to stay in a monorail hotel to ride it. We do a round trip on the Epcot monorail every visit just to get us in the mood.

Hey FIG, welcome to the boards! Just wanted to let you know that all CAPS is considered internet SHOUTING! Please refrain from it as a mix of upper and lower case is easier on the eyes too!

Bigg Robb welcome to you as well!!

Just wanted to say thanks.

I've got a long train ride to/from work. Lately, if I'm not napping, I'm going through Disney books, deciding where to eat, which parks to hit first, etc. I figure there are far worse things to obsess over. :D

Bigg Robb, if you go to waltdisneyworld.com you can get some more information about Fort Wilderness and other resorts. You could also go to the top of this very page right here, click on Resorts, and get info. The cabins are about 504 sq. ft., full kitchen, sleeps 6 with a large bed & 2 bunk beds in the bedroom, and a Murphy bed (that's what those fold out beds are called) in the living room. Full kitchen, housekeeping, 25" TV & VCR. They seem nicer to me than the average cabin for rent at various campgrounds in the country, plus, you've got lots of the stuff you'd expect from hotels, like swimming and other recreational activities. The water pageant drifts past the campground. Cheaper dining options than most other places in the resort area. And while I don't know when you're going, if you can get a cabin for anywhere NEAR 119 a night like figboat2 did, I'd say it's worth the extra bucks for all those extras you're getting.

You should be able to get a Florida resident's discount & move up the chain a little, maybe to a moderate level resort, for under a hundred. Check Mousesavers.com for details of available discounts.

I beg to differ. The Shades of Green is just a 5 min walk to the poly, and the room rate for me is $72. Not only that, but they have their own private bus transportation to the TTC and MGM, BB, and TL.

Thank you for clarifying. We don't want someone who is not very knowledgable about that resort to think that they would be able to stay there and get such a low rate.
