What I would highly recommend is getting a late dinner ADR at Rose and Crown (8:00 PM or later if possible). They have a special roped off area in which to view illuminations from that is reserved for their guests. The view from there is one of the best around WS and you will not have to steak and defend your claim to a viewing spot an hour or more before showtime. You will also get a great meal out of the deal as well.

I second this that's what we did last December and it was great, though being this close to your trip may be difficult.

Yes it does fill up fairly quickly. I would reserve as late in the day as possible....8:00 PM or later if possible. Also if you get an ADR let your server know that you are going to watch illuminations (they usually ask but just in case they don't) and they will schedule your meal around it.

I agree with Rose and Crown.
If that is not available, there are special viewing areas near the International Gateway and Italy, that if not reserved for a private function are next best. After that, either International Gateway, between Italy and Germany (what someone else identified as Torch 7) or up the stairs in Canada.

Other big factor....wind direction! Check it and go in the opposite direction.

Also if in a pinch, you can get a table at La Cantina de San Angel outside (its quick service) on the water. The view is somewhat obstructed by trees but its not all that bad. Just get there a little early as it is no secret. I want to try the rose and crown next time we go though!

View is very good. The pushing, bumping, people coming and going is distracting however.

As Johnny Cash once said, I've been everywhere man. The best place is upwind. There's nothing worse than having what you think is the perfect spot only to have the smoke bank heading your way. Once it gets there, you can't see a thing. Check the flags. Check the fire beacons. Check the trees. Decide accordingly. It'll be great.

I have seen it from almost every angle.

I actually prefered the veiw from the Cantina de San Angel in Mexico to the veiw from the Rose and Crown.

Though the fish and chips were better than the burrito.... :D

If you can't get into Rose and Crown, close by there is a out of the way park bench out of the main walkway that DH and I watched from last time. Between trees and right in back of a shell launch spot, it worked out well.

I like to watch right where that path lets out from the Imagination Pavilion...Get there like an hour early and just chill and wind down...You see every effect from the show from there because every country is viewable from there!

Learned the hard way on where NOT to watch Illuminations last Friday night (5-9)...in front of China, with the wind blowing right at us. The smoke and the cinders were not very pleasant at all! Next time I will think about the wind...it was so HOT that day, we were just enjoying the breeze and cooling down. I guess the sun had fried our brains, never occurring to me it would be so yucky! Anyway, Illuminations is always so amazing and magical!!!!

after watching this firework show for 5months the best place, no doubt(without reservations at R&C) is the Italy Terrace. get there at least an hour early. i know it seems like a long time but it's a great time to take a breather from the day!
i have told many guests about this spot and they have all come back greatly satisfied and thankfull for the Advice :)

Except that that area is often reserved for private functions.
