DLP's reminds me of a local family 'theme park' with a castle theme and it just looks cheap to me. *ducks*

Disneyland's building with Walt's family apartment above it, at the entrance to the fabulous New Orleans Square, has a really great look to it. But the problem is that the trees in front and around the building have grown up so much over the decades that it really obscures the attractive building.

As you walk towards it, you seem more green than building, and it loses the punch it once had before the trees got so big. Here's a pic from just this week of the entrance of Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean, with the pirate band playing out front and the Pirates CM Greeter at the queue entrance. If it weren't for all those CM's dressed as pirates, it would be hard to tell a ride was there at all.

Check out this Disneyland pic and try to find the pirate ride there! http://mintcrocodile.smugmug.com/photos/808050443_8ZHiJ-X3.jpg

I think the WDW version of the Pirates ride building was originally pretty weak, but it got better when the put the sailing ship marquee out front a few years ago. Now as for the rides inside the buildings themselves, there's one version that is very noticeably the weakest of the four global versions... :lookaroun

Thanks for those pictures Lee, they really do illustrate the difference.

As for WDW's version, I hate how obvious the forced perspective of the clock tower is from pretty much any given point besides standing right next to it.

For me it's a tie between DL and DLP. I think DL gets the edge because of NOS and the fact that Walt Disney had his own apartment built on the second floor.

and yes, the DL picture is a bit outdated. Here's what it looks like today -

Thanks for pointing this out! The photo I posted is from 1977, BTW.

Having only seen Disneyland's and Walt Disney World's exteriors, I'm calling for WDW on this one. The whole of Caribbean Plaza is just spectacularly beautiful, especially with the fountains and alleyways. It's even prettier at twilight.

I agree.

You always know you're entering Caribbean Plaza and it feels more like a miniland rather than an attraction even though it's just 1 E-ticket.

I've been to all three.

List:
1 - WDW
2 - DLP
3 - DL

I'm a sucker for WDW's 'realist' style.

DLP looks a bit cartoonish. It's great, phenomenal even, but there is a certain aspect to the whole of DLP that just doesn't resonate with me. What it wins in extraordonarily detailed fairytale theming, it loses in realist placemaking.

DLP's pirate ship and island with skull rock are breathtaking though, this area of DLP blows the other parks away.

love DLP but the queue is MASSIVE outside and then you turn a corner inside and ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH lots more people on line, I have spent a long time in the queue and it is soooooooooooo dark inside. The DL entrance looks really out of place. The WDW is 2nd for me, I just love it because it means I am in Florida and on holiday:)

Out of place? Three words, New Orleans Square :lookaroun

And although i'm DLP's exterior looks impressive, I'm not a big fan of the worn-out, weathered look. Great detail but I prefer the more classy and maybe even more elegant look of the stateside versions. And I still think the first picture of DL should be updated - I didn't even recognize it!

The French custom of eating frog legs is the source of the English use of the derogatory nickname "frogs" for French people. It may also stem from the fact that, before they adopted the Fleur de Lis as their symbol, the frog served as an avatar for the French kingdom.

Sak jokes often need translating. That was one of his better ones IMO.

Oh well, thanks for clearing that up for me! :)

Hey, this reminds me of a thread I read earlier today... hmmm...

(checks name in OP again)

I knew it!! :D A fellow MiceChatter!

Oops, better shut it before a WDWmagician kills me. :zipit:

Anyway, I'll say what I wanted to say on that other site's thread, but didn't... that they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Disneyland's exterior is the most beautiful, IMO, but has the least to do with what it actually contains. WDW's to me is the most Caribbeanesque, and therefore the strongest thematically, and also has the added benefit of being surrounded by its own mini-land, but the exterior itself is rather simple and lacking in the fine details of the other two. Finally, Paris' is masterfully crafted and detailed with its worn look, but seems the least inviting to me with its dark, ominous shades. So I guess you could say I love them all the same. :)

New Orleans Square is without a doubt one of the best themed lands in any Disney theme park! Too bad only one was built, thought elements of it were incorporated into Tokyo Disneyland's Adventureland.

As you walk towards it, you seem more green than building, and it loses the punch it once had before the trees got so big. I don't remember seeing that bridge before (with the Pirates of the Caribbean sign and underpasses to the ride). When was that built, and where does it lead to?
