Trust me I had heard the stuff about the tonga toast, and then we sat down and they told us no french toast or pancakes. But I mean if you look at the menu that officially takes about 70% of the menu. I dont know, maybe it was a bad time, but I will be trying Ohana next time, b/c talk about a HUGE let down. How can you run out of your most popular thing you know??

Sorry that happened ... should not EVER happen when , like you said, it is 70% of your menu!!! I would have to excuse myself & leave :(

I've been reading an awful lot about Kona in some recent trip reports and while we leave in 11 days and thought we had all our ADR's squared away, the rave reviews for the Tonga Toast made us add a breakfast ADR at Kona to our list.

I didn't think we would be able to get one with the trip so close but the first date we picked, September 8, a 7:30 am reservation was available so we jumped on it.

Can't wait...

I love going to Boma for breakfast. It seems to be a favorite among the posters to this thread as well. I love the resort, the food, the atmosphere, the decor, everything. I also love Tusker House character breakfast if I am traveling with kids. Many of my friends have suggested Cape May...so I'll try that sometime too.

Even odder since, if you ask, they'll let you order the Tonga Toast for lunch or dinner. Which means that, theoretically, they should have those supplies on hand, ready to go. Sounds like it might have just been some kind of fluke.

Great to see the Kona Cafe so high on the list of faves. This next visit in a few weeks i booked a breakfast spot and will be experiencing it for the first time. Looking forward to it!

My two other fave places to eat for breakfast are Sunshine Seasons and Pizzafari.
Both are great spots to grab a full breakfast while IN a Park.

Pizzafari is almost ALWAYS deserted too as most Guests do not know they serve breakfast. This makes for peaceful dining and attentive company from the CMs. Many times i have dined in nearly empty rooms. Highly recommend it if you have little ones and you are visiting AK in the early part of the day. Instead of feeling cramped and dealing with the masses in the morning at your Resort food court, hit Pizzafari or Sunshine Seasons for a more relaxing way to start your day.

The day at Kona that is being referred to there was a problem with the gas that supplied all the fryers, grills and stove tops. The motor blew about an hour after opening so we basically had no menu. We were getting food from Ohanas and Captain Cooks. It was a nightmare but thankfully the motor was replaced and at lunch we ran a full menu. Please don't let that isolated incident deter you from Kona.
