Best attraction you never experienced.

While I rode 20,000 leagues as a kid, I really don't remember it but just a little (extremely fondly). I really wish I could ride it as an adult and share that experience with my wife and kids.

I actually asked where it was when I went back for the first time since childhood (hadn't found this forum yet, 2009? or 12...drawing a blank). I was so disappointed to find out it was gone.

In hindsight I was very impressed the CM knew exactly to what I was referring and let me down easy.

Pretty much, the YouTube video version of 20,000 Leagues is what you got, minus the heat, long lines, the extremely long boarding/exiting wait!

Coming from a small state (Vermont) all the technology at Disney was awe inspiring to me. However, the one that dropped my jaw the furthest was the turntable at Imagination. I could not begin to figure out how they made that work. It took me at least three rides before I could actually watch the show without just thinking about the mechanics and actually enjoy the show itself. Thinking back it is still a marvel to me. It's not just the fact that there are multiple shows happening on either side of you, it's how they were able to isolate the sound so that you couldn't hear what was happening just a few feet away. The same thing with CoP on that account, but, imagination was my first time that I noticed it.

The original journey into imagination. I hear all the time how it was vastly superior to the ride we have today, and maybe never going in that ride is the reason I'm content with the current iteration.

There is nothing wrong with that. All it really means is we saw everything and a lot of it no longer exists. To be honest, I'm not sure what we saw was superior or not, but, it was what we saw first. Some of the effects where mind boggling, others were meh. Even on Imagination, it bogged down rapidly after you left the turntable, but, the turntable was jaw dropping. Horizon was alright the first, second or even third time, but, to me it got old after that and I hated the ending. I thought it was a very low quality ending. It was a great idea, but, it wasn't presented well. The only ones that didn't need any change were WoM, Spaceship Earth, and parts of the Land and Seas. In my opinion the Energy pavilion, pre-Ellen was a 45 minute infomercial for Exxon and you talk about the ability to sleep on a ride, that one did it. The only spectacular part might have been the preshow, but, to be honest, I don't remember it the way some do. It just didn't impress me enough to even remember what was special about it. It's all in personal perspective. Some think that Toad was the end all. I thought it was a fancy road side carnival fun-house, off the shelf ride with day-glow painted cardboard scenes. And didn't seem to fit into the high tech atmosphere of the park. But, like I said, that was my opinion. I saw it a lot different then others did.

In a way you were lucky to not have seen, live, the imagination beginning. Without that the new one seems fine and, I guess, in some ways it really is.

Until recently I would have said the Matterhorn. See my trip report about how I finally rode it: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/dl-with-a-pre-show-post-show-and-a-rider-swap.914652/

I could say Fantasmic. Somehow last time I was at WDW I was always in the wrong park when it was performed. And when I was in Disneyland recently it was on hiatus for expansion construction.

The most obvious answer is Alien Encounter. I rode Mission to Mars and SGE, but missed the Alien Encounter era. But I'm not sure I would have been a huge fan of that ride.

I think for me it's Luigi's Flying Tires. I just barely missed it as my trips to DCA were before Cars Land and after they converted it to Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters. That's a good attraction in its own right, but Flying Tires sounded really unique.

I wish I had experienced Delta Dreamflight. I've seen a YouTube video of that attraction, and it looked pleasant. I was also surprised at the length of time of the ride, as well.)

It was "pleasant". Not really a must-do, but a good little filler ride. The song was pretty catchy too. Funny you said Dreamflight and not the original If You Had Wings. I never rode that. Dreamflight was my era.

For me it would probably the original Living Seas. My first visit to Epcot was before it was open, my next visit after it had been re-themed to Nemo.

I can't feel too bad for you, because you got to experience Horizons and original JII. But The Living Seas is the third most sad Epcot replacement / retheme. The experience isn't drastically changed, except for not exiting by hydrolators, but the original story is no longer referenced.

Maelstrom looked pretty cool. Actually was in line once to do it and the ride broke down. Missed my shot i guess

I don't know. It's a pretty fun little 3D video game, but is it a ride? They don't have to move you around; they could just keep you in front of one screen and change the picture. I guess I'm in the minority, though.

Perhaps watching will make this much more understandable.....Because I was just confused what you just said...

Hmm, I thought I was replying to a post about Toy Story, but now I can't find that post. I can see how you would be confused.
That's what I thought when I read it, but, you did quote the one about Maelstrom, so hence the confusion. However, toy story wouldn't be as much fun if you didn't move around, it was be, as you said, a 3D game video... which it pretty much is and always has been.

Thank you, and well said!

I am sad to have missed the Tapestry of Nations parade at Epcot. I imagine that would have been inspiring.

Reading this thread reminds me that I have been fortunate to experience some attractions many, many times that others did not get to enjoy. it remains my opinion that seeing the Nautilus submarines circling the 20K Lagoon was superior to taking the voyage itself but I'm glad to have had both experiences.

Kitchen Kabaret. I was at Epcot when it was open, but somehow I never got psyched enough to march myself over there and watch it. Next thing I knew, it was gone. Well, I have "Kitchen Kabaret Medley" on an old Epcot vinyl ("Veggie veggie fruit fruit veggie veggie fruit fruit..") And a few months ago, I saw the entire show on YouTube (the next best thing to that time travelling DeLorean!). I am still slapping myself for missing it, though.
