Being Drunk in the World

My wife and I have had a few encounters over the years with drunk guests in the World. I know this will come as a surprise, but this mostly has occurred at EPCOT, I know, it's hard for me to believe also.

Last year there were three cases, one involved us and two we were just voyeurs to.

The first happened in September during Food and Wine, yet another surprise. We were leaving the park and I was trying out my new fisheye lens on that big ball. A group of people, maybe five to seven, came walking by. Two of the women and one guy were falling down drunk, when I say falling down one of the woman wiped out. She lost her drink during the fall. Anyway, these people were loud, swearing and just plain obnoxious. Now I have no problem with people being drunk or even cussing and such, but you need to be in control of yourself. Their conversation was fairly colorful, we have no kids, so this once again didn't bother me. There were kids around though and I am sure these parents didn't care for their kids to see and hear this group.

The second happen when we were visiting in December, we were waiting in line to ride Frozen-Ever-After. There was a couple behind us that enjoyed a little to much of the hooch. Once again, the lady needed to be held up by her companion most of our trip through the line and they just reeked of alcohol. They weren't really loud or being overly obnoxious, it was the smell, occasional bump and remarks about waiting. By the time we got to the CM that directed us to our row, my wife kiddingly asked the CM if she could put the people behind us in a different boat. Sure enough the CM took them out of line and had them wait for the next boat. I felt bad, I did.

The last time was again during December at EPCOT. We were sitting on a wall near the bridge by the International Gateway waiting for Illuminations to start. A little before the show started a younger couple sat next to us. They were obviously par-taking in adult beverages. They must not have known each other well, they were asking questions like favorite color, food etc. Yes, I know, but they seemed like they were in their mid to late twenty's. Well this conversation carried over to sexual questions and went to the point of getting a little physical. Luckily they decided to leave and perhaps take the show somewhere more private.

Well those are my last three dealings with drunk people at Disney. Has anyone else had these encounters?

Sounds to me like this couple decided (rightly) that a wall in Epcot was the wrong place to continue their... explorations. Another victory for modesty and common sense.
Just a word of warning from past observations.

Drunkenness is a behavior which will greet those who complain of it with far harsher scorn & rebuke around here than those who actually demonstrate said behavior.

In other words, don't be surprised if you get an e-lynching for bringing this topic up. ;)
Nobody can deny that drunks happen. Fortunately, WDW Security has had plenty of practice dealing with it.

Perhaps we also need new threads on:
1. Tipping practices...a beginners guide for what is fair and expected
2. Appropriate stroller use and abuse
and everyone's favorite...
3. Scooter etiquette for the "fat & lazy"
You forgot foreigners and breast feeding mothers
And the ever popular pool-hopping, drink-stealing, in-line diaper changers.

Back when I was in high school I rode the Jeremy Irons version of Spaceship Earth high, it was also the last time I rode that version And one of the only few times I've ever took a few hits. That ending all I can say was the ending to that version of Spaceship Earth is incredible after taking a few hits on a full stomach.

I've been on here a couple of years and haven't read a lot about instances like these. So what if it's been covered in other threads before! It's still interesting. And besides, who has time to research years worth of back threads to see if a topic has been covered before? Besides that, if someone resurrects an old thread, you guys are on them about replying to a post that's seven years old or something like that. Can't win on this forum! Do not engage in what Batman calls "e-lynching" the original poster!

It's unfortunate that this happens at all and Disney needs to step up to the plate 1. refuse to continue to serve anyone who appears drunk 2. if it gets to the point they are drunk and loud have these people removed ASAP from the park. Sorry, I have no tolerance for drunks my ex wife was one.
That's a great idea! Sorry about your ex issues. I agree. Let's kick out all the Brazilian tour groups, Cheerleader troupes, any chanters at all, parents that yell at their kids, people who say things that aren't PC, people that stink, people that wear ill fitting clothes, people that stop in the middle of a walkway, strollers, EMV's, sick people, or anything that you deem offensive or irritating to you. There should be an app that allows you to alert Disney Security. It would be a much more enjoyable experience.
Nobody likes an obnoxious drunk, but unless they are breaking some sort of rule then they have just as much right to be there as any other a-hole.

I wasn't saying any of these people should be kicked out or removed. I have no problem with drinking or even being drunk, that is each individuals choice. That is as long as you are not assaulting others, that's not good. I think it would be wise to have control of yourself. Even the intoxicated people in line behind us, my wife was jokingly asking to not put them on the same boat as us, he took us seriously. To each his own.

I am a people watcher though and I notice things and just felt it would be an interesting topic. I don't know why, just thought it would be.

I was in the single rider for mission space, the group of people I got paired with were quite loud but I thought they were just excited for the ride. When we were lining up to get on the ride, I could smell a really strong stink of beer from the guy next to me. They went to get into the simulator (stumbling a bit) and one asked if I was getting in, no way was I risking getting trapped in a ticking sick time bomb. I pretended I was too afraid and tried to find the nearest CM to get on another ride. I hope it went well for them but since it was the extreme version, I didn't have a good feeling :hungover:

I've got two distinct memories, also, both at Epcot. First time, we were entering Epcot late and there were two women walking back to their car in the parking lot. One was so drunk she just sat down in the walkway. It was only later that I realized, 'they're going to drive home or back to the hotel'. The second was in line for Mission Space Orange. Two quite drunk Eastern European college-age guys. I thought, 'I've got a bad feeling about this'. I knew how I would end up in that scenario. Luckily, they kept it in, at least for our flight.

With bad language, how I handle fleeting instances, is to just ignore it. F-word in a song, or said by someone out somewhere, my daughters don't even notice. They do notice the words my wife and I use when we're upset, and that is where we're most careful.

FYI the State of Florida has laws on public intoxication, Disney has every right to remove obnoxious drunks from the parks. FYI never said a word about anyone else you cited in your specious rebuttal. I am not a teetotaler just drink responsibly

Guys, you have to remember that everyone here has not been here forever. So many folks DON'T know what's been posted before and some times some thing that's been discussed before is may still be relevant. I did a quick search simply using the keyword "drunks" and the threads it brought up are 10, 12 years old. I think I saw one from 2 years ago. so a new person might not know this has been discussed before.
Chill

Now as to public drunkenness, I'm a Native NY'er, so I maybe a bit cynical but pretty much I assume that if there is alcohol being served, there are folks who have had too much. we like to think Disney is a "bubble", it really isn't.
