The whole staff are out here, fire sirens heard. Staff don't know anything, or at least aren't talking.

In the event of an evacuation, it's probably more important for CMs to actually perform the evacuation than it is to make sure that each CM knows exactly what is happening.
Agreed. Though I wonder what the CM's were arguing with each other over. That should not happen.

In order to perform an evacuation successfully They have to know what to do. Since the poster stated they were arguing among themselves my guess is they didn't. I've been a part of an evacuation at the Boardwalk before and it was handled the same way.

You are exactly correct, but my post was to the issue of the CMs not knowing why they were being evac'd.

Which is important to know in order to keep track of people, and to make sure that you are not leading them to either a place where they will be in the way of emergency crews, or a place where they could be trapped if conditions change.
Agreed.

Evacuation procedures should be practiced and treated seriously, both by the people being drilled and those running the drill.

Im not surprised that the CM's obviously had not been trained/drilled on the appropriate procedures. Not that its their fault, Im sure the extra training would have cost the company more money then they are willing to spend. Kudos tho the CM's for having enough concern to actually argue over it and get everybody out safely, and in the end it sounds like they got the job done.

That alone should prevent any arguing and confusion. Heck, working for a decade in a 30+ story building in downtown Boston, even with constant turnover in all business held within the building, we drilled and knew where to go when an alarm rang. CM's shouldn't have to argue about these things. If the hypothesis on the argument is accurate. Who knows?

I've heard that it was construction workers breaking a sprinkler. Take that as you will but I trust my source explicitly.
