Be Aware: Traffic Enforcement

I want a set of "Cast Only" access roads that go from one of the property to the other. This way, I can get to work without having to worry about getting side swipped by everyone who has no freaking clue where they are going all the time.

Amen, I hate to say it but the signs on Disney property are BIG, BOLD and definitely NOT confusing. People will stop right in front of me in places where there isn't a stop sign, they're too busy picking through their cars looking for their maps and swirving all over the road or going 20 in a 35 (Which has happened WAY more than once to me especially when i'm on my way to work). I can't tell you how many friends i've had get into an accident because of a tourist, now i'm not also going to sit here and act like I hate tourists, I mean come on, they keep me employed! But at least go the speed limit on Disney grounds and keep a close watch for the signs, I don't see why when i'm on my way to MK and it says "EPCOT ENTRANCE STAY RIGHT" and some guy will be all the way in the left lane until the last minute and cut over 3 lanes cutting everyone else off. It's just not safe.

For most part, yes. But there is the odd exception, however not on the main highways.

I've found that a significant of disney's signage is confusing. Signs (imo) shouldn't ever say "straight ahead" then the next time say "next right". There is always the annoyingly bad signage to get to I-4 if you're heading west out of DTD. It indicates to go straight, then all of a suddent at the overpass it says "right". I've seen many people confused by that one. I'm sure there are others than I can't think of ATM. Maybe if they hadn't designed WDW in such a sprawly fashion it wouldn't be so bad :)

Well, this thread seems to have 2 consistent veins.

1. Mostly Cast Members are doing the speeding "on property".

2. Cast members are fearful of driving "on property" alongside unpredictable tourist drivers.

Solution: Build a Cast Member Only parking lot @ the very edge of the property where they can park, walk to a tram headed to the Bus pickup, then board a WDW bus to the TTC where they join whatever means of transport is headed to their particular destination.

You shouldn't have to leave home more than an hour or so earlier than usual.

I'm sure this suggestion will earn me some good rep points. :zipit:

Rob's opinion: Tourists are clueless and CM's are reckless. Only let the locals that aren't CM's drive :D

It's the signage from and to Down Town Disney that is not always clear, it is sometimes obscured by greenery and in one instance I recall was nowhere to be seen at a T-junction.

funny story time... involving cops and slow tourists... and the best of the 3, an out of state cop driving slowly!

This was about 2 weeks ago. Ms. MKT and Raisun were in the car with me. We're driving on I-4 on Disney Property heading to WDW from Downtown Orlando. We spot the boys in blue up ahead, so we slow down. I look at the car for a minute and I realize "hey... no police department here has black and white cars!" So I look further.. and what do I see? SOUTH CAROLINA PLATES!!! So mkt does the only thing mkt knows how to do. Very enthusiastically overtake the cop car (and the subsequent second cop are 2 cars ahead) on the right.

This was years of repression let out. LET OUT.

Long story short... out of state cops rule.

I can just see it now, radar detectors for sale in the gift shops. But that wont help you if they are using VASCAR or LASER.

I thought that most PD's stopped using VASCAR. It has been proven that the powdered sugar from the donuts causes the time switch to fail. :animwink:

pfft... I ***heart*** my Valentine 1

The problem with your theory mkt, is that radar, laser and light waves all travel faster than you and your Valentine 1 can react to them. By the time your Valentine 1 has given you its warning, the signal has already hit your car and bounced back to the police officer's unit and he has a reading.

However, if your mind and body are fast enough, you just might be able to react more quickly than 299,792,458 meters per second. I feel certain that Barnum can add some testimony.

I stopped by on Friday afternoon for a bit before heading down to Tampa for work, didn't notice any police officers besides D-Security.

Today, there was at least ONE Orange County Sheriff's officer at the security checkpoints. Florida Highway Patrol had pulled over one car at the Epcot Parking Booths, another at the Magic Kingdom just a hour or so later.

I've always noticed the lack of police officer presence on the roads, so now I'm going to have to watch my speed.

So, FL DL's say safe driver on them? That's nifty, they don't in KY. Is it a fairly new feature? I don't remember my ex's license saying safe driver, but I s'pose there could be another reason for that. :lookaroun

I'll definitely have to take note of the new traffic enforcement. I used to fly when I was a cp and I never once saw anyone pulled over. Though, others would still fly by me faster. My motto is that as long as I'm not the lead car, or at the tail end of the field I should be okay. I was running late not too long ago (common occurance) and I just found me a drafting partner. Though, in all seriousness, I really am a safe and responsible driver and I rarely do more than 10 over. I more tend to go with the flow than anything. If the flow is slow, then I go slow, if it's fast, I go fast.

10 over hahaha, when I was doing my cp in spring 04 I'd do that and still get passed like I was standing still. On the one hand, this will suck for those who are late (I was never speeding because I was late... lol) but in all truth it is necessary because I don't know how many tourists I watched get almost rear-ended as they came to an almost complete stop because, hey!, that was their turn!

Heh... the V1 usually gives me a 10-15 second warning, enough reaction time to merge with slower traffic and downshift. By the time he's clocked me, he won't know what car was speeding.

Funny -- the way they were talking, I thought MKT had passed Spectromagic or something.

Well, they'll only need to patrol the inbound lanes -- that's the only time I speed. When I'm leaving the World, I might as well get out and push.

Luckily, I don't have to deal with too much clueless-tourist traffic using my favorite sneaky-snake route.
