Hi all

My dilemma:
We will be staying at Beach Club this Dec for part of our stay in Dec-(the rest at Poly) we have always ate at Ohana for at least one of our evenings.
Since, we have not gone in 2 years (not by choice) and the kids are bigger now-(17 and 13) I am planning the vacation with a few "new" experiences--

How do you feel about the BClubs Camp ClamBake Buffet?
I am hoping to get free dining, but if not-I will need to choose between Ohana or the Clambake--
If we do not go to the Clambake, I am planning that evening to go to ESPN that night and Ohana earlier in the week when we are at Poly:D

Thoughts>?

I ate at the clam bake buffet at the BC this december and i would not recommend it at all. The food was not good at all. And the dessert section was very dissapointing!! I would never go back again!

I've never been there for dinner, and I'm not a big seafood fan. But the family and friends who do enjoy seafood often complain about how dicey it can be getting seafood from a buffet. The one nice thing is that this "clam bake" has tons of food that's not seafood, so you've got options, but if you really want to go for the clams, you may want to be more wary.

just to beat a dead horse...yeah i would advise you to stay away from cape fear. i love seafood but its not even red lobster quality. i had pretty high hopes because all you can eat snow crab legs sounds too good to be true...and then it was.

Below is a copy and paste of a review I put up a few days ago when I got back from Marathon weekend.

While I think the quality of 'Ohana has gone down as of late, and it is a place that we now pass on, in a head to head against Cape May, I don't even have to think - 'Ohana.

While I don't think the food is worth the price, at least the food is decent at 'Ohana

I had thought long about where to eat post marathon. I was going to expend 3,500+ calories running that morning - I needed a buffet in order not to go broke. A combination of places that were booked and places I did not want to eat at steered me to Cape May Cafe

Adult Dinner - $32.99
Blue Moon Beer - $5.75

This is now officially, in my book, the worst place to eat in WDW. When I entered the hostess gave me a rundown of the place, part of which was "of course over here is our dessert bar, which is the best part" that should have been a tip off from square one. My server disappeared for long stretches of time. When I ordered a beer, she took my water away. I then drank the beer, but she was nowhere to be found to either order another one or to get water.

Crab legs were ok, but nothing to write home about

Peel and eat shrimp - I understand the peel your own concept. Saves on costs and prevents patrons from gorging themselves. But could you at least de-vein them? Me, I eat anything, and have no problems ingesting a shrimps ________-pipe, but really, any restaurant that serves shrimp with the veins still in needs to question its operation.

Overcooked rubbery PEI mussels that were the smallest I have ever seen, and tasted nothing like any PEI mussel I have ever had.

The fish was harder and drier than the table I was sitting at.

Clams have sand. I understand that. These had more sand than clam. I think I ground the enamel off my teeth. They are also NOT steamers, they are hard shell clams. There is a difference.

The ribs were just like my mother used to make when I was a kid. My mom made horrible ribs. You had to wrestle the meat off the bone.

Some highlights - the mashed potatoes were very good. - OK thats about it.

Then moving on to dessert - remember this is the best part. Udder dreck. Overly sweet, clearly pre-frozen and defrosted, some still with ice crystals. Items that had a crust were sogged out.

I ate a load of food because I was hungry, but really, it was not a place I want to ever go to again.

Alright I'll defend the clambake. I actually think it is a decent dinner. I have to say that I am not a seafood fan though. My wife loves seafood, and she dislikes the place. The seafood does appear to be under par, but I have no problem with the rest of menu. Ohana is good also, but we were there in Oct. and the food did seem not up to usual standards. I do have to say i wasn't very hungry when we ate there.

But phonedave...how were the desserts? Were they, indeed, the best part?

Yes, as in they heralded the end of an meal of pure dreck.

Standing on their own merits, they were just as bad as the rest.

There were four desserts and a cart of cookies.

All the desserts were clearly frozen and defrosted. Many had ice crystals in them, all were weeping in one way or another from the treatment. Anything with a crust (on in one case, a freaking oreo cookie) was soggy. The flan was like jello, not like flan. They were all cloying sweet as well.

The cookies were half way decent. But really, that's your best effort at a $32 a plate restaurant - opening a tub of cookies you bought from Restaurant Depot? Seriously, that's about what all the desserts amounted to - frozen bulk packs from Restaurant Depot.

Being from New England and knowing what a real clambake tastes like, go with O'hana. Nothing will ever compare to a real New England clambake. O'hana is one of our must eats when we go to WDW.

We enjoy both, but all four of us prefer Cape May to Ohana. We also feel that it's one of the best deals on property.
