battle of the bad attractions

My redo of Ellen's Energy Adventure would be replacing the role of Ellen and Bill Nye with an unseen voice narration, and the reduction of the preshow into an interactive astrophysics exhibit.

The pavilion would be sponsored by SpaceX in this hypothetical redo - and in turn - the journey would use the same ride vehicles by venture not just on earth, exploring where energy comes from and how it's used...but the energy of the cosmos. Focusing on the big bang, the chemistry and physics behind the universe, and what we have learned from it over the years.

Replacing the actual attraction will be a ride through deep space narrated by Elon Musk - as we follow a lone satillite drifting through the space reaching the 'final frontier' of the edge of our galaxy.

As we venture past the galaxy and out into the larger universe...the narration explains spacetime and time dilation based on Einstein's theory of relativity...installing more of a scientific aspect back into Epcot.

neutrinofaci.jpg

In the finale of the attraction, after learning about dark matter, black holes, wormholes, and interstellar space - we realize that the spacecraft we have been following is the Voyager - and the vehicles turn into the final 360 scene of the attraction into pitch black, with a small dot on the screen, like a pixel.

We realize through this just how vast the universe of energy is - and how much we have to explore yet. The attraction disembarks with the message of exploration and discovery - two of the main themes of Future World itself.

I'm gonna say fake tiki room was better because it was at least partially actual tiki room and actual tiki room is one of my favorite attractions.

The Enchanted Tiki Room Starring Maui

1517642835652.png

In an alternate reality where the fire that destroyed the Iago animatronic forcing them to return back to the original Tiki room never happened, Disney has decided to update the unpopular under new management version into a new Moana inspired version.

The set up is that the demigod Maui is a huge fan of the world famous Tropical Serenade in the Enchanted Tiki Room. Big fanboy! So, he has decided to tell the Tiki Birds that he will be the new star in their show!

There is a Maui animatronic in the middle of the room (seen from the waist up so he can move without having to do animatronic feet). Projection mapping is used so his tattoos can be animated.

-------------------------------------

The show starts off with the regular opening number. The Tiki birds sing their famous song.

Maui then pops up from the center all excited saying "Whoo!!! That was amazing! I love you guys!"

The birds have no idea who Maui is of course. So, they ask him. Maui responds, "Who am I? I am Maui! Shape-shifter, demigod of the wind and sea, hero of men! AND the new star of your show!"

1517642971684.png

The tiki birds are obviously taken aback by this. Questioning Maui on his claim to be the new star. Especially since their show is an ensemble with no real star.

Maui responds by interrupting with a rewritten version of "You're Welcome." Instead of him singing about how great a hero he is to Moana, this new version is him singing about how great a showman he is to the tiki birds. I didn't rewrite the whole song, but the rewritten rap is below.

Birds, honestly I could go on and on
My stage presence makes me a natural phenomenon
This song, this dance, this rap?
Aw, this is Maui just messing around.

Look at this smile,
It's so full of charm.
So much to admire,
My hair! My arms!

What's the lesson,
What should you know?
You're gonna want Maui to perform
with you in the show!

And this dancing man here on my skin
will make the Tiki Room a win!

Look at me now,
Just shake my hand
I'll join your show

in Adventureland!

The rest of the show is a series of newly redone versions of songs from the original Tiki Room and Moana mixed in with brand new songs. After "You're Welcome," Maui shape shifts into a bird to match the rest of the Tiki Birds.

1517642901860.png

Over the course of the rest of the show, Maui learns to be less of an egotistical show off because what makes the tiki room so great is everyone coming together! It is a team! The birds, the flowers, even the room itself gets in on the show.

So, Maui becomes humble and joins the whole ensemble for a final reprise of "The Enchanted Tiki Room." The star of the show isn't Maui, it is everyone together!

--------------------------------------

This updated version will bring a fresh new energy into Tiki Room while better capturing what made the original work so well. The modern character and ties to the recent hit moana will help bring in new people. Maui's fandom of the original show will help please Disney fans more than the Under New Management calling the Walt Disney classic boring.

The new music and script for the update will be handled by Lin Manuel Miranda. The creator of Hamilton and songwriter for Moana. The Moana connection gives Disney an easy excuse to bring Miranda in and he would be perfect for an updated Tiki Room.

Dwayne Johnson's natural charisma will be a great anchor for the attraction. Dwayne Johnson can easily carry a bad movie and has many times.

Even if the new Tiki Room turned out bad, Dwayne Johnson can carry it and make it something special.

------------------------------------

Bonus! The Jungle Cruise is rumored to be getting an update to tie into the upcoming Dwayne Johnson Jungle Cruise movie. With a movie-based Jungle Cruise right across from a Maui Tiki Room, this would lead to a Dwayne Johnson mini-land! Now we just need to re-theme the Magic Carpets into Fast and the Furious!

Alright, that bonus was a joke.

This is a really good idea, but I feel it fits mission space more than universe of energy. Maybe merging the two in one big combo attraction could be a brilliant possibility!

I really like this one. It has a lot of charm to it. I would like more detail, but the stuff you gave me is pretty good! Also I rather have the rock's magic carpets any day lol.

dca 1.0 vs disney studios
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
some similarities:
- both have movie themes to them
- both were a failure
- both are getting the help they need
- both are the second park to the original
- both used a theme that was now considered outdated and uncool
- disney fans dislike both for the most part.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now it's time to decide which attraction is better and redo the better attraction!

I'm gonna a say Disney Studios is better. It isn't better, but it has a theme that can work for a great park while a California park is inherently flawed and limiting. Not to mention an odd pick for a park in California where the real versions of the stuff in the park can be reached with only a day of driving.

Also, it is physically painful to call Disney Studios better than anything.

My reasons for DCA are that the park has potential. Neither of these are great, but as it stands thematically DCA 1.0 had more potential to become something cohesive whereas most studio parks end up eventually having no overarching narrative, just IP here, IP there. A park based on California shouldn't have picked such mainstream locations to begin, but attractions like Soarin' and California Screamin' were both praised from the get go - as well as the adjacent Grand Californian Resort.

Another + being location -- I'd rather go to a theme park in southern california in January than brave the snow in Paris lol Gives the opportunity for more unique attractions that can travel indoors/outdoors. without having to worry about shutting down as much due to inclement weather.

I’m gonna go with Disney Studios. Yeah, it sucks, but it has more raw potential than DCA 1.0 did.

As for how to redo Studios, I propose that you make all of the lands in the park based on a studio that’s disney owns.

1. Disney Bros. Studios
4BD4EC14-7F0F-4CFA-A7FB-6F79465181B0.jpeg

This would go where the tram tour load is, and would extend beyond to the backstage area behind it. It would be very similar to the idea for the 1930s Disney Studio Land I proposed for DHS, with a Hyperion/Burbank studio building serving as an entrance to “ToonTown”. It would come with a Roger Rabbit boat ride, and an E-Ticket featuring Mickey Mouse, who must go up against his most fearsome foes (Pete, Shyster, the Phantom Blot, and more) in order to save his town.
A594D43C-96D3-4E1F-9DBC-6DEA0B38737B.jpeg

2. Disney Animation Studios
An extension of the previous land, including the already existing Disney Animation building at the park. Opposite to the current Animation building would be a new and improved version of Philharmagic, which would cause some reworking of the ToT entrance to be made.

3. Muppets Studios
ADBB6CAA-BE09-4CFF-A922-F035F618AFB0.jpeg

The “Mickey et la Magicien” building would make way for a small Muppet themed area. Whether this be an updated Muppetvison, or a Muppet themed dark like the one that was supposed to replace Superstar Limo, an attraction would go there.

To be continued...

Disney Studios Paris - Alternate History

1518587371022.png

The Entrance is the same as the current park with the sound stage. The Partners Statue greets guests on the other side. The Earful Tower Water Tower stands above the entry courtyard on the Cinemagique Building to represent the live action side of Disney films. The Sorcerer's hat stands above the right side on the Art of Animation Building to represent Disney's animated films.

-Milies Lane (Blue Buildings)-
This land is based around 1920s era Silent Films. Named for famous French film maker George Milies.

Trip to the Moon Dark Ride
A dark ride based upon George Milies's famous film of the same name.

Silence is Golden Museum
A small museum dedicated to silent films from Steamboat Willie to Charlie Chaplin. A focus is placed on behind the scenes aspects.

Jazz Singer TSR
A table Service Restaurant themed to the Jazz Singer. The first film to feature sound.

Buster Keaton Stunt show
A stunt/comedy show based on silent, slapstick films. Focused on Buster Keaton's work.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
Instead of being saved back for later, this signature attraction is a part of the park's opening line up. As you can see on the map, it is off to the side of the park helping to free up the center area a bit more.

-The Backlot (Red Buildings)-
This land is themed to a movie studio. Sound stages buildings and bits and pieces of fake movie sets fill the area.

Mary Poppins Musical
A stage musical based on Mary Poppins. This will be done in a cheap stage. It is essentially meant to round out the opening line up. This show is expected to be replaced within the first decade.

Lights, Motors, Action!
Studio Tram Tour
Cinemagique

Art of animation
These are all the same as the versions in the actual Disney Studios park. The Tram Tour is shortened though so that it will take up less space. Also, Art of Animation has entrances on both the Backlot side and the Toon Studios Side

-Toon Studios (Yellow Buildings)-
Toon Studios is now planned from park opening. It is a bit more over the top and cartoony more like a Toon Town. This is a studio ran by toons for toons.

Tarzan Rocks
The show from the recently opened Animal Kingdom will be cloned over into this park. An exciting stage show full of exciting music. The theater, much like the one in Animal Kingdom, will be a relatively cheaply constructed open air stage.

Emporor's New Groove Dark Ride
A simple Fantasyland style dark ride themed to the recent hit film!

Magic Carpets
Much like how it currently is in Paris, the Dumbo clone is given the themeing of Genie being your director for a film shoot.

On Location QSR
A quick service restaurant where all the dining rooms are themed to different "sets" from hit recent films like Mulan, Lion King, Hercules, and more.

1518587399718.png

10 years later, not too much has changed. the Mary Poppins Musical was replaced as predicted. The Trip to the Moon dark ride was sadly replaced due to a lack of popularity. Cinemagique was updated to include more modern films. Crush, Ratatouille, and Toy Story Playland are all added just like in real life. The big difference is the Rat was added first and Toy Story Second. Toy Story is currently a dead end, but that is because it is planned to connect to a future expansion.

Rock 'n' Rollercoaster
The attraction will be cloned here. This version will be basically the same as in Paris now.

Great Muppet Movie Ride
A smaller scale version of the Great Movie Ride starring the Muppets! Built to capitalize on the recent Jason Segal film.

1518587421849.png

Finally, the park has become one of Disney's best. The Marvel Studios Land is themed to a Marvel Studios Backlot. It is a more fantasy based version of the Backlot aesthetic already established nearby. Star Wars Galaxy Edge will be added. The entrance will be through a false soundstage. That way it keeps the theming of a studion in tact. Cars Land (smaller than the one in DCA) will be added as well. Another fake soundstage entrance will be used to keep the area's theme in tact.
Lastly, Tarzan rocks will be replaced with a real theater featuring a broadway style show based on Frozen.

-------------------------------------------------------

Over all, the changes I have made are to reestablish and refocus on the studio theme while style giving more freedom for expansion. The toon studios area with a more fantastical style will help add some more Disney Flair. The Sunset Blvd-esque Milies Lane will add some great atmosphere and much needed visual variety from the backlot aesthetic. Future Additions like Cars Land and Galaxy's Edge were picked partially for their interesting, naturalistic landscapes helping to add some variety to the landscape of the park.
