Banned until 2010

I bought a house in August and then lost my job right before Christmas. I had a one year teaching contract (graduated just last year). The teacher I was replacing was on leave for a year to travel. When the economy collapsed, he decided to return ... 7 months early. My contract was worded "one year or return of the teacher" so I was out of a job.

I had just taken my December trip, Christmas was on the way, and I had to take two subbing jobs plus I went back to work at the law firm where I had worked my way through school. I am pretty much living paycheck to paycheck, and robbing Peter to pay Paul, if you know what I mean. On top of that, my ex-husand is refusing to pay child support, "due the economy." Doh!

I know I could scrounge and save for another trip in 2009, but my head and good old common sense is telling me otherwise. Instead, I come to WDWMagic to get my fix, and plan my late August 2010 trip so I'll have something to look forward to.

What's killing is me is that I am the WDW-go-to-gal in the office and I have 3 co-workers who I am helping to plan their WDW vacations.

Anyway, I have banned myself from WDW until August 2010. I just had to share this with people who would understand, commiserate and help me get through this.

I completely feel your pain. I had a trip planned for December 2008 but I didn't end up going because I lost my job in October. You are not alone! Right now there are so many people who are unemployed that jobs are hard to get because of all of the competition. Out of 200 resumes I've sent out, I've only gotten 3 interviews in the past 5 months. Yesterday I had an interview for a job making $12.50/hr when my previous salary was $65K/yr. The interviewer told me that he was expecting to get responses from college students but he got 48 emails from experienced programmers like myself who have been out of work for quite awhile.

I know you're probably too nice of a person to do this but you can take your ex husband to court to pay child support. It is his responsibility to pay it and he should pay regardless of the state of the economy.

The most important thing I've learned through all of this is to surround myself with good people who will lift me up and don't bring me down. I am truly blessed with funny people in my life who help me see the light at the end of the tunnel and keep me positive. Just remember "through it all Cinderella remained ever gentle and kind." I'm sure her life was worse than yours!

ok, I feel everybody's pain, including my own. LOL. We are on the Dave Ramsey plan and remodeling...with cash.
So, 2010 is a short 'maybe' and the long 'maybe' will be even more years than that.
The silver lining of all of this is that we have WDWMAGIC and our Disney Visa Rewards dollars. We are sitting on approx $350 at this time and they will be put to good use when we finally do get back to the Magic.
Hang in there everybody and stick together. This economy can't defeat us if we stick together and keep in touch by WDWMAGIC.

That's all the pep talk that I can muster.

NICE post:) Thanks for the pep talk....we all need to stick together just as you said:sohappy:

I feel your pain. Imagine what it's like for us Brits who love WDW - not only are we dealing with the worse recession in decades with job losses being announced every day, we've also seen the value of the pound decrease by 35% against the dollar which means when we do finally get over, everything is costing 35% more than it did last time.

Times may be bad but we will return.....

You WILL return....where there's a WILL...there's a way...think positive:wave:
