Sad story, but posted in the wrong forum  I love how they tried to used Bambi to make it a bigger story.

Sounds like a good opportunity for venison steaks for the poor. (And I'm only slightly kidding)

In many parts of the country, when a deer is struck by a car, the meat is donated to a worthy cause and used to its best effect.

It wasn't too many years ago when some of the animal rights avocates (in Florida) protested a 'hunters harvest' of an excessive number of deer population. The alternative to the harvest was that the deer were going to starve to death, as most of the deer's natural predators had already been anilialted (by man), and the natural habitat could not support the increased population of the herd. Actually the harvest was the humane thing to do, otherwise, the herd would have become diseased and most would have died anyway and by a more horrible death.

So, I guess what I'm saying is, it's not as big of a deal as the news would make it out to be.

several of my friends were driving home once from a party near UCF and they hit a deer. They felt bad because it sort of ran into the car for some reason, and they didn't want to leave it on the road, so what did they do???

Took it home, and eventually ate it. I must say, it was very, very good.

/yes, we're all cheap college students and this is a true story.

A deer got hit by a car? I've NEVER heard of that happening!!!
:ROFLOL: One got my husband back in November. $1500 in damage to an F-150
I think if a police officer was "traumitized" by a deer getting hit by a car, they are in the wrong profession.

I'd have to agree

My gosh, I couldn't even begin to count the number of dead deer that are along the highways anymore around here

Is it uncommon for people not to hit deer in Florida? Here, I see at least one deer per day dead on the side of the road. Today I probably saw 2 or 3.

It was in Chicago.

They seem to have some interesting critter situations pop up there. I remember the coyote who walked into a Quiznos and settled down in the drink cooler not too long ago.

A friend (and also my son's soccer coach) was killed when a deer ran in front of his car. Sorry, but I didn't have a lot of sympathy for the deer.

I've come very close to hitting one (while vacationing in VA) and I really would prefer not to meet one in the wild.

I agree...I've seen many, many serious accidents in my area caused by the exploding deer population. There is a herd of 12+ deer that occasionally sleep in my yard ranging from 8 point bucks to the spotted Bambis that are no bigger than a large dog. I've come very close to hitting deer including a few in my very own driveway.

A bizarre incident happened a few years back on an interstate that runs thru Connecticut. A deer bounded out of the woods and, as it was jumping across the roadway, it jumped onto a motorcyclist causing him to crash and killing him instantly.

Pretty to look at but dangerous creatures vs. motorists.

Poor babies.

I love deer. We have a large group that hangs out at our house.

I hit a deer in 2005 and it totalled my Benz. That was doubly sad.
