See I would think Pochohantas would be very easy to cast b/c she doesn't have any particulary focused on facial features in the movie, at least not in my opinion. Plus there are alot of hispanic people in FLA, that is not a racist remark I'm just pointing out a sector of Florida's population, and alot of people could probably could not really tell that a person is hispanic or that they're native american because the skin tones are quite similar. But then again I could be completly wrong....

hahaha, yes and no's. I've seen many that wouldn't do. But I have seen maaaaany others that could easily be friends with Pocahontas, if really needed. It is a relative plus though, as you've said.

One time, my roommate tried acting as a princess. I do declare, he did a ridiculously bad job at it.

I had a really bad Mulan.

Maybe I'm expecting too much but when I spoke Mandarin to her, she had no clue and secondly, she was white with eye make up to make her eyes look 'more asian'...which I found personally offsetting. It's not really her fault though, she was pleasant enough, just not close enough to make me feel the magic.

Now Mary Poppins, she was spot on and Jasmin, all I can say is :D

This is why I tend to keep away from...err... should I call them "non-suited" characters?

I dunno. Something about the fact that it's a person (!!!) breaks my personal shyness barrier. You look the beast in the eye and you're faced to confront certain assertions you made in your youth. Your inner child gets bent over the rack and beat over his with the innocence he once took for granted.

Am I making any sense here?

Ever since I was a wee-youngin' I had the impression my mom was actually Mary Poppins. I would compare old college pictures of hers and Julie Andrews and be certain of the existance of a secret double life.

If I met Mary Poppins at Disney World, mom by my side... it'd break the time-space continuum.

Give me the oversized, plushy hands of a suited-up character any day.

Now then, there's one problem with this though. Being the geek that I am I'm obsessed with physical dimensions and relative size (It broke my heart when they explained to me the interior for the Millenium Falcon wouldn't really fit inside the design for the ship. I tell myself they're all liars.).

So I always get this.... antsy feeling. I've always wanted to just go up to Chip & Dale and Lilo & Stitch and pretty much every other character and go

"Hey... how come you're so BIG?"

I know what you mean. Stitch will always be my favorite, but I have to admit, it bothers me a little to see that he and Lilo are taller than I am. She's supposed to be about six! However, I just tell myself that I've magically become six years old myself because Tinkerbell mistakenly sprinkled me with pixie dust. It works really well! :D

Pixie Dust of course. In order for all of our magical pals to come to life tinker bell sprinkles them with pixie dust. Since they're so small on paper tinker bell makes them bigger so everyone can meet them. They also can't talk because they only have a limited time to visit guest before the pixie dust wears off. If they talked more of the magic would be used up. Thats why they save talking for magical moments like shows and parades.[/cuteness]

Actually if you look around there are plenty of CMs who are from Mainland China. I ended up chatting with a handful of them around the parks. You would think that a Mulan would know at least the few basics...hello, goodbye, etc.

No Mullets, never for me.
But I did see some rather serious ones on my last trip to WDW.

I wouldn't expect her to know Mandarin as I wouldn't expect Snow White to know German nor Belle to carry a conversation in French. I DO expect Belle to be able to name a book title though! At least one!

Disclaimer: To date, I've never had an interraction with a "face" character. I've seen them in parades and such, but we've never waited in line to meet one or dined at a meal that featured them.

It would never occur to me to expect a character to speak in his or her native language. I just expect them to look close enough to the original character for me to know who they are supposed to be. And it would be nice if they know the character well enough to carry on a bit of conversation.

Yeah, I'd expect Belle to have the name of a book as a stock answer. Surely, she gets asked that question every now and then.
