The last time I vistited MGM beofre the first week of this jan. was oct 2003. I noticed something at the backlot tour... Why can't we go to the house area anymore? Is it because of construction on the new stunt show they are building?
It just disapointed me... really...

The residential street is gone.
The motor stunt arena is where it used to be.

LOL Wow.. thats why I could see the canyon area so clearly... Do you know where the houses went? Are they gone for good? Because thats kind of crappy if they are... They had some famous houses from sets on that street.

Uhhhh... Whilst trying to remain respectful of others opinions, I'm gonna disagree totally here.

How on earth could you dervive more entertainment value from a flat then the new stunt show?

Lol I liked seeing the Alice in Wonderland home... From the old Disney channel series.

Why did the Imagineer's decided to build the stunt show there, would it not have been possible to have built it to the side of residentail street, then by doing this the Backlot Tour could go through residentail street and also pass the new show.?

Everyone's happy.

Well they could of built it somewhere where they didnt take down the houses... I just feel the whole backlot is just boring now. :snore:

I do agree... yes seeing a few houses isn't exciting, but that depends who you are.. lol Some people like seeing TV/movie sets and props. But now the area has been sized down completely for a stunt show. Yes I want the stunt show, but again they ruined the backlot tour. I remember in the early 90s when the backlot tour was much larger, now it's only about 10 minutes of driving.

I would rather have the stunt show, but I'll just miss the Golden Girls house.

No big deal, the stunt show should be better than the backlot tour

I have a feeling that the backlot tour may be taken out for good one day and use the area for expansion. I think it is a good idea since the backlot tour now seems like rubbish. Since they are moving all of their animation department and MGM isn't used for any filming, they should expand back into the backlot tour area and the prop building area. Their is a lot of land that could be used for some interesting things.

Don't forget the backlot tour incorporates some special effects segments before you load into the tram (the boat in a storm soaker), and the tram takes you to Catastrophe Canyon, a very good "special effects" experience that ties in beautifully with the theme of a production studio.

Highlights of my last trip on the Backlot Tour: (1) Old Star Wars Vehicles in the bone yard; (2) Walt Disney's Plane; and (3) Catastrophe Canyon.

Even in its streamlined version, it beats several attractions in other parks.

Ohh yer I fotgot about that, I was thinking about that when I was at the Disney Studios Paris the other week, does anyone know why the first part of the tour was excluded from the Paris version of the tour? was it like a cost cutting thing or was there another reason?

What movies were the houses on Residential Street in? The last time I was on the Backlot Tour when the houses were still there was in 2001. (Yes, I've been back on the Backlot Tour since 2001.)

I don't think any were in movies. Mostly TV shows like Golden Girls and Home Improvement(??).

I believe they demolished them. So more than likely they ended up in a landfill. I don't remember a fish tank on that tour...

Well hopefully not... I think its kind of crumy to destroy those classic tv house sets just to make room. They still could of placed it in a different location.

Yup. Having Timekeeper and Carousel of Progress seasonal and replacing Alien Encounter with a 'kid friendly' Stitch attraction that kids still get scared of...
