Backlot Tour Closing?

Hi All,

According to Disney's Website, there are "No times available" for Backlot tour beginning on July 13 2014. Is this part of the closures that are rumored for DHS? There are dates listed for 7/12, but then none through any of the dates listed (December)

What's up?
Disney finally starting work on a Pixar Place expansion for my 21st birthday? Oh Disney, you're too kind :D:rolleyes:

So there is the possibility that BLST, IJSS, and AI will all close with nothing on the horizon (at least nothing officially announced). With as little as there was to do at HS, removing 3 attractions is going to really hurt. could be why attendance is up so high at MK. I am hoping they have things planned and are just keeping things so tight lipped, ready to start building as soon as those shows/rides close. Is that even possible in this day and age with all of our insiders?

This however is nonsense. None of us here were around when Black and White movies were still common. (Except maybe @Goofyernmost , who was born in 1901).

I guess I'm speaking from the teen point of view. When I originally said "my generation," I guess I meant the way teenagers are at the moment. Not what they will be when they're mid 20s and 30s when they probably actually have seen the movies to appreciate them.

That's actually fairly normal, that attraction's schedule only normally gets posted out a few weeks at a time. I think you're reading way to much into it. A lot of the attractions that close around sunset only have schedules a few weeks out at a time, nothing unusual.

For example, check out Liberty Square Riverboat at Magic Kingdom for the same week. :)

They still have this because TDO wants to be tight on money for theme park lands, or new attractions.

More like TightWADS.

$14 for a 16 oz. watered-down alcoholic "drink" at Star Wars Weekends (Rum with lemonaide), $8 for it to be non-alcoholic (AKA $8 lemonaide). I don't think they are hurting anywhere.

Good point actually. When I was a teenager, and not pulling girl's hair to draw their attention, I watched popcorn flicks, couldn't care less for any classic movie (ie, more than five months old).

Dang it, I've been outmanouevered by a teen whippersnapper! :banghead:

I totally went off topic on this forum guys. Ignore my pointless post about GMR... Backlot Tour. Yea. That ride. That's what this is for.
Well given the thread turned into a general DHS moan thread from the first response I think your GMR comment is valid. The whole park really needs a kick up the backside to become great again.

-Backlot Tour needs a major overhaul or removed and turned into the full Carsland/Pixar Expansion
-GMR needs a complete update
-Little Mermaid needs replacing with a new show since the MK ride makes it redundant.
-Beauty and the Beast Live needs replacing with a Frozen or Tangled show since the MK experience also makes it redundant.
-Indiana Jones needs removing and replaced with the Disneyland dark ride or removed for Star Wars land
-Muppets is old and needs a new Muppets film.
-Sounds Dangerous need something new in there
-Rock N Rollercoaster is fine
-Tower of Terror needs some refurbing but is fine
-Star Tours is fine
-Toy Story Mania is fine, just needs more props inside
-One Man's Dream is fine
-Fantasmic could do with an update but is fine.
-LMA is fine although if it was removed to make way for something better it wouldn't bother me.
-American Idol needs to go and replaced with something else immediately.
-Jack Sparrow thing is fine although it doesn't really do anything.

I think that is all lol

Why? There is nothing in the Backlot tour anyway. Close it down and build something worthwhile.
Maybe rename it to the Dumpster Dive and it could be more fun.

"On the left you have junk, on the right you have junk, look at the costumes, the backside of stunt cars, splash-splash. The end"

Actually, they should bring back the hypothalamus for narration.

Hi, member of said generation here. I myself have seen Gone With the Wind, Singin' in the Rain, Casablanca, Tarzan and Fantasia, and most of them I would be fine watching once a week if I was forced to. However, I do agree. Most of this generation has absolutely no interest at all in these movies, and it is actually pretty sad. It is our culture and it needs to be remembered. That's why TGMR is one of my favorite rides, though I agree it needs expanded to include some newer, culturally significant movies (or included in another experience like the tram tour).

That is good to know! The thing that I thought was strange was that of all the attractions whose times I checked, it was the only one that didn't have times posted! I see what you mean with the Riverboat too. Maybe I'll start a new "Liberty Square Riverboat Closing?" thread :angelic:

You are only going deal with the loss of possible 2, not 3 attractions.
IJSS actually isn't closing next year based on the fact cast members didn't the notice that American Idol Experience cast members did.

I like the Backot Tour too! When taken for what it is, not for what it once was, it is a fine enough experience. :)

This however is nonsense. None of us here were around when Black and White movies were still common. (Except maybe @Goofyernmost , who was born in 1901).

Moreover, as a generalisation, I find the current crop of youngsters very interested in the world about them. The cultural pendulum has swung back to insatiable appetite for all things cultural. Especially authentic experiences. The timeless movie classic is hipper than ever, as is independent and arthouse.
I was born almost 50 years after 1901 and I can assure you that black and white movies were indeed the norm in the 50's.

I remember back when I was a kid and MGM Studios was a working studio, that's when the park was in its prime. I would imagine that the attendance has gone down. I still remember making a day out of that place or at least spending allot more time there. There was even a time where that was my favorate park, as of now I haven't been there in over 5 years.
